    • @lurkerrekrul
      @lurkerrekrul 22 дні тому

      @@Banterbear Maybe I'm wrong, but it was my understanding that legally, you don't need permission to show copyrighted/trademarked things in movies, if you're just showing that they exist. For example, you don't need permission to show a character drinking a can of Pepsi. However if the movie revolved around someone leading a crusade to convert people from drinking Coke to drinking Pepsi, that would be different.
      Again, I could be wrong, but I believe the reason movies usually license things and/or get permission is just to cover their ass in case the company doesn't like how they depict the item and decides to sue them, claiming it disparages the brand. For example if a movie showed someone being murdered by being forced to drink Liquid Plumber, the company would probably have a problem with that.
      When it comes to using stuff from movies and TV shows, I'm not sure what the rule is. I mean, I don't think you need DC's permission for a kid to wear a Superman T-shirt, or have a Batman figure standing on their bookcase n the background. Even with Disney stuff, it would probably be legal to show a character going to ComicCon, and having Star Wars characters walk by in the background, as long as you weren't focusing on them, or making them part of the story.

    • @Banterbear
      @Banterbear 19 днів тому

      @@lurkerrekrul Definitely wrong. They had to license everything for the film. I just looked up a Quora on it. Most were already owned by Warner Brothers, some they got permission for, and others had to be left out because they couldn't get permission. Ie, there was a Blade Runner sequence in the novel, and they had to swap it out for the film.
      I don't know how it works for things like, say, a character wearing a T-shirt or someone using the terms Padawan, but I think they are generally allowed, one is good advertisment anyway, and the other is something that's fairly common parlance/slang.
      Of course, a lot of companies will PAY the movie to include their products, as again, it's a form of advertising...good example.is in Bond films with cars and watches...it's all product placement.

      I always assumed it was just her feeling self conscious about her birthmark. We all do it; every little imperfection is multiplied by a hundred in our own minds. I remember feeling insecure about my looks in high school, then decades later I happened across my old yearbook and was shocked to see my picture and come to the conclusion that I was probably above average. It was kind of sad, realizing how much that affected my self esteem when it really didn't have to.
      And I'm a man. I suspect women do it more because, although it's getting better, there's still a part of our culture that unfortunately implies that a woman's worth is tied to her looks. Even someone like Samantha/Artemis, who doesn't define herself by the way she looks, wouldn't necessarily be immune to insecurity. Just because we think she's attractive doesn't necessarily mean she does.

Honestly, I think a better situation would’ve seen Sorrento utilizing the Giant instead of MegaGodzilla. It would even make him just as ignorant to not understanding the whole point of certain iconic figures. When he chooses the Iron Giant, he does so because he sees it has weapons that can kill. This film is based on a novel and it is way different from the book. For example...Wade and Samantha don't meet with each other until towards the end (from the book); Wade first meets with Samantha in the "Oasis" when they're going to find the first key (from the book); the High Five are all alive in the film but in the book - one of the its members dies in real life; Wade gets arrested and goes to detainment which was his plan all along to get into IOI (from the book); R2-D2 was playing the DJ from the book but in the movie didn't appear - Disney said no; Wade earned that extra life coin by playing Pac-Man arcade game for 10 straight hours (from the book). There are many differences from the book but it seems half of it appears on film - which is fine with me.

    Yes, you need to watch it a few times. The film is loaded with references and 'easter eggs'.
    "Meet me at planet Doom" is a reference to the video game "Doom". The avatars are from various other games like Mortal Kombat, Steet Fighter, Tron, Grand Theft Auto IV, Halo, Gears of War, Forza Motorsport and many others that i don't remember / know the names to.
    As for movie references, holding up the boombox to play "We're Not Going to Take It Anymore" from Twisted Sister from "Say Anything" "No man is a failure who has friends" from "It's a Wonderful Life", Mega Godzilla from "Godzilla vs Mega Godzilla", "Terminator", "Dragonball Z", "Saturday Night Fever", "Krull", and several others.
    The fact most of the main actors were unknown was because they would have distracted from the main 'virtual OASIS world'.
    Overall, it is a movie packed full of references and characters from movies, anime, comics. games, and tv shows.

During the memory flashbacks in the journals, but especially during the ending when Halliday is looking around for the egg, I love how the legend who created the Oasis is stripped back and you get to see that Halliday was just a person too. The book goes deep into how the real world sucks, corporations out of control and how nothing matters but capitalism, only profit matters and lives aren’t valued. Of course it’s full of 80s nostalgia, but so is the film, but unlike the film, the book dives into why people escape reality to the Oasis.
