Fiddlesticks lore and TL;DR version in case you didn’t understand the quotes
Fiddlesticks is very old, possibly older or the same age as Aurelion Sol. It’s said that Fiddlesticks was made during the “first scream of creation” and is described as a “demon before demons were known.” There’s a story about a young Mage in a tower by the sea that was messing around with dark magics, it’s said that he summoned something into the world that was older than history and was darker than the night and just like that the tower, the thing and the mage were lost to time. It’s not known for sure whether Fiddlesticks got to Runeterra through the mage in the tower or some other way but cultures around Runeterra have different ways of seeing Fiddlesticks. In Freljord, Fiddlesticks is a monster that raises itself from the ice made of helmets, bucklers, furs and wood. In Bilgewater, Fiddlesticks is only referred to as something that’s alone on an island that no one has come back from. In Targon there is a story about a child of twilight (Zoe) who “stole the only joy from a ragged, whispering horror.” this one can be explained, demons are a strange thing, we don’t know how the other demons got into the Physical Realm from the Spirit Realm but we can take Evelynn as a guess for how all demons get into the world. Evelynn was once a tiny shapeless thing in the Physical Realm until the Rune Wars where it took a physical form to feed on agony, the “ragged, whispering horror” could possibly be an example of that. In Noxus the veterans tell a story about farmhand who was blamed for a famine and fed to the crows (this is a reference to Fiddlesticks’ old lore). In Demacia, recently at least, they just blame the mages. In the new demonology tree we can also see that Fear is on top with others being below spreading into other branches of emotions, because that’s what demons do, they feed on human emotions. We can see Fear on top of the picture and two other main branches next to it that are unknown as of yet (link to demonology picture below). Of course Fiddlesticks was purely imagination… Until recently with the Demacian civil war with mages, something has awaken. It’s said that Fiddlesticks is such a dark being that it defies most of magical knowledge and that even the animals fear it. In the farming lands of Demacia however another story has resurfaced, that Fiddlesticks is an evil with no form, thoughts, or understanding of Runeterra. It is terror manifest of all things living and it hungers for fear. it is not just a fable, Fiddlesticks is real.
*TL;DR:* Fiddlesticks was born in the “first scream of creation” and is a “demon before demons were known.” Every country has a story about Fiddlesticks. Fiddlesticks defies most magical knowledge of the world and even animals fear it. Fiddlesticks is real and is no longer debated about being just a story in the fanbase anymore.
fun facts (lots of them today, I did some extra research this time)
1. The “Child of Twilight” in the Targonian story of Fiddlesticks is Zoe and that story might actually be canon. The reason it might be canon is because someone who worked for Riot confirmed that Zoe has stolen a key from another champion and Fiddlesticks has keys around his neck.
2. Fiddlesticks is trying to learn how humans sound so he can trick them easier, that’s why he has animal sounds in his voice lines.
3. The most likely theory of how Fiddlesticks got his name is from his first victim’s last words Fiddlesticks. For some context the word “Fiddlesticks” was basically an old timey way of saying ‘oh s**t.’
4. We finally got a reveal of what Swain’s knowledge demon is named, or at least a likely guess, his name is Raum (pronunciation: rah-oom), we know this because in his interactions Fiddlesticks calls the demons by their names, like for example when he sees Nocturne he simply just says “Nocturne” the same is with all other demons, I don’t think it’s been confirmed yet on second thought, but it’s a likely guess.
5. Fiddlesticks has a line saying “Fiddlesticks, end of men, Fiddlesticks, first of ten!” and there’s a theory that there are 9 others just like Fiddlesticks with Fiddlesticks obviously being the 1st, kind of like the Darkin, there are 5 left but we only know of 3 (4th Darkin is mentioned in lore only as “the sister” by Varus)
6. You may have noticed how I mention Evelynn and Fiddlesticks as “it” and that’s because demons don’t technically have a gender, Evelynn has had many different physical forms that it has shaped to feed off of humans, so the current Evelynn is only it’s physical form.
7. Fiddlesticks has voice lines about other champions too, like from Yone (Yasuo’s brother) when Yasuo killed him. He said “brother, how could you betray us?” and Fiddlesticks has that line and also has lines similar to those from other events in lore like from Annie he says “Annie, don’t let go” which was said by Annie’s step-sister. So either Fiddlesticks was there during those events or Riot is just trying to make the voice lines more interesting.
8. In Fiddlesticks’ short story “Voices” the man telling the story said “there’s a bottom to bad, and what happened in Goldweald (town the story takes place) broke right past it. Don’t believe me? Go for yourself, Goldweald ain’t there anymore” that gives you an idea of what Fiddlesticks can do.

Not related to Fiddlesticks' story but I want to mention that I'm updating older lore comments that I've written, because I've found myself cringing about how bad my grammar was. The tower and the mage were Zilean, in zileans lore it's said he see's the end of runterra and he is trying to prevent it. Perhaps this has something to do with fiddlesticks

And the technique he used is rather similar to that of Dehaka from Starcraft/Heros of the storm (which I think is voice by him as well)
and is done by resonating the Uvula while breathing in and out.
I haven't watched the video yet but it sounds like he is mainly just talking while inhaling.

@@ARSD219 There's a theory that Fiddlesticks has been "split" and the one we play as is just one of the fragments of the entire fear demon. That's why Zoe has one of its keys, because one of the previous aspects of Twilight sealed one fragment somewhere else to prevent him from reassembling into its full form. That's why he says "first of ten", because the thing inside the cage is instinctively searching for the other nine parts of itself to become the actual Primordial Demon, the Fear Demon, the one from which all others come from.
The theory goes as far as stating that the skins are the other fragments and its vessels spread across Runeterra in the different regions, with the "main" one being in Demacia and the rest all over the world. If true, I wonder how powerful the Fear demon must have been to require such measures.

He does know what death itself fears! Each champion has a fiddle quote where he imitates what they are most afraid of. To Kindred he says 'Grey Man', which i personally interpret as Kindred being most afraid of being one again and thus alone once more.

It's actually been confirmed on reddit that lore wise, Lamb and wolf do fear becoming alone again and thus fiddle sticks refers to them as "grey man". Both as a homage to the fact he's far far older than them and has thus known their true form and as the one thing they fear.
I think the idea is that Lamb and Wolf are afraid of who they used to be; The Grey Man.
The grey man was lonely and hated, so split himself into 2 entities.
Someone knowing about the grey man story, means they know the grey man.

I like to think whenever they say, "The First Scream of Creation" I like to think that Fiddlesticks was made and just terrified creation itself into screaming.
This is proof that your imagination is scarier than what they could create. They just gave us out of context last words and we imagine their anquish and terror as Fiddlesticks stalks and kills them. They made a terrifying character and i'm super proud of their art team

I love how well such short phrases work.
Most people recognize the "help me" from the trailer. Sure, it's easy to understand that it's imitating people to lure or scare others... But what I find remarkable it's how connecting the "help me" with the trailer stimulates our imagination. How we interpret what he says, each person coming up with a different horrifying tale for each little sentence.
"It knows what we are afraid of". Fiddlesticks hasn't a word of his own in all his lines. And, yet, he has more to say than any other champion in the game.
All horrifying and well said, but that last part was pure poetic beauty.

Fiddle came to existance during the first scream of creation. He IS old, the first of all demons as the primordial emotion is the fear.
Also, The Kindred arent that old, they came to be after the former spirit of death, the Greyman, felt so alone that he split himself into two, creating the Lamb and the Wolf
Thats their biggest fear, being united again, forever alone, and Fiddle mocks this

I love how this video, more than any other, seems to tell a story. The first minute seems to me that it's setting the tone for the piece, but after that is when it really begins.
1:03-2:07 Some people are singing the songs about the children's boogeyman, known as Fiddlesticks. The nursery rhyme is a little morbid when you piece it together (High above the rotten rows, cloth and metal, teeth and crows), but then again what nursery rhyme isn't. It's just a song about some sort of boogeyman, nothing more.
2:08-2:37 Two brothers are walking through a field. The younger of the two is a bit scared because they remember the stories of the monster that lurks in these woods, but the other is reassuring them that it's just a story. However, one of them hears some rustling somewhere in the field. They call out to find who it is, but as they approach they see it's just a harmless scarecrow.
2:38-3:03 It gets dark and the two brothers are still out in the field. They hear the cawing of crows, which starts to unsettle them. They sense movement somewhere in the field when suddenly, something comes bursting out from the field surrounded by crows. The more frightful brother shouts out in fear ("What is that? WHAT IS THAT!") before they recognize it to be the scarecrow they saw earlier. They both run as fast as they can, panting heavily, but the elder brother stumbles and the younger gets in the house first. Fearing for his life, the younger brother shuts and locks the door, and the younger brother pleads for his sibling to let him in as the scarecrow is closing in on him.
3:04-3:22 The younger brother survived to tell the tale of what happened to him, but nobody believes him except his own family. He managed to escape the scarecrow, but it's still stalking him. He can hear it call out to him each night. He can't leave his house after sundown, because that's when the scarecrow stalks.
3:23-4:15 Elsewhere in the village, a young girl named Sarah is getting ready to sleep when she hears a voice from her closet, telling her to come closer. When she does, the scarecrow bursts out, slashing at her as she runs to get away. She calls out for help and her family tries to fight it off, but the scarecrow won't die no matter what they do. The father is cut down by the scarecrow's claws (No, no! Please no!) as Sarah and her mother run our of the house. Her mother tells her to find a hiding place, and to not look right at the scarecrow and to just keep running as she prepares to give her life to buy time for her daughter. Sarah runs out into the fields and finds a place to hide. As she hides, she hears her mother's voice, comforting her. Her heart swells with joy! Her mother survived and she's back! She promises Sarah she'll always be there to protect her. As she looks up, however, she doesn't see her mother, but instead a scarecrow, looking right at her.
4:17-5:17 The villagers are growing quite concerned. Several people have found wandered into the fields only to never return. A search party is formed to look for them, but there is no sign of them anywhere. As they return, however, one man is separated from the group. As he tries to find his way back, he hears a voice taunting him. It's all his fault, the voice says. He could have saved his brother, it whispers to him. The man can't take it anymore. All the stress of the recent attack, the death of his brother, and being lost in these damned fields again, he breaks down and cries out, begging for someone, anyone, to come and help him. He hears a soft rustling behind him, and the caw of a crow. As he looks up, he sees once again the terrible scarecrow that's been plaguing his nightmares. He remembers the old nursery rhymes that he once sang when he was a child. Songs of a silly scarecrow with a silly name, something like Fiddlesticks, who would snatch away naughty children who wander the fields. Some children found the rhymes goofy, but there was nothing comedic about the thing standing before him. It's not real, he tries to tell himself. He must be dreaming, or hallucinating, something, anything! He'll wake up any second now. This is all just a bad dream...

That was such a good interpretation, but the one Fiddlesticks calling at the Sarah, guilty, and ALL YOUR FAULT, is actually a dialogue between fiddle and other champions (Sarah being Miss Fortune, guilty being Riven, and ALL YOUR FAULT being Jinx, which explains that Fiddle reads the darkest memories and deepest fear of others and speaks of it)

The mother and Sarah(Miss Fortune) is actually quite sad and horror story to me.. it's like Miss Fortune's Mother died cause of fiddlesticks

He does properly talk when he’s talking to other Demons, and Kindred. When he talks to the Demons, he calls them by name, and may mention what they’re the demon OF:
Like with Evelynn, he says “Agony”, or with Tahm Kench, “Addiction”.

I think Fiddlesticks doesn't understand speech, for him it's just noise that humans make, just like breathing and whistling.
"IT'S IN THE HOUSE" is the one that fucks me up the most. This... thing, crashing into your own safe haven is something we should be thankful isn't real.
I love how when he's imitating 'brother, open the door!' you can hear pounding in the background. Might just be the drums from the music but it lined up so well, like he just mimic'd the whole noise instead of just the voice. Also the way you can occasionally make out what the victim must've sounded like under the demented fiddlesticks-tones... wew, scary stuff.
This has an early 2010s creepypasta feel, one of the legitimately disturbing ones not the muh haunted video game/lost episode ones. It's great.

Fiddle is older than Kindred (as he was around before life, and thus death, even existed). "Grey man" may just be fiddlesticks stating that he recognizes Kindred as the same being as, well, the gray man, as a show of how ancient he is and how he is aware of death's wherabouts without ever having to face death itself... but the "lamb, tell me a story".. is the real one where Fiddle tries to create fear.. by suggesting he could take Wolf away from Lamb, and leave her to be alone. Or, since Fiddle reproduces the voice of his victims to lure new ones.. MAYBE FIDDLESTICKS ALREADY KILLED WOLF and maybe he is now trying to lure Lamb with the voice of kindred's lost half...

But fiddle is older than the universe bcs ( I don't remember where I have read that) he said that he heard the Voice of Creation and it was full of Fear. The voice acting here is profoundly good, and I can hear several themes the actor was going for. The raspy gasping makes FS sound sick, very, very wrong, and constantly out of breath. He's struggling to speak, not because it needs to breathe, but because it doesn't understand what it's emulating and is just attracting prey and/or arousing fear. Absolute terror probably seasons its meal, like basting a turkey, and FS is absolutely going to fuck to the fear turkey.
The random tonal shifts make it sound more alien. Like, if you heard this in the dark, you aren't sure what the fuck you just heard, but it definitely isn't human. And then, the actor compounds this with a trick of speaking while inhaling air, letting him hit notes in dialogue and make sounds that aren't normally possible because he's effectively using his vocal chords backwards.
Just parroting the words of its victims and the animals along the farmlands it haunts. It’s not even clear if it understands what it’s saying or it just knows these noises get attention but in either case it paints such a grim idea of what it’s done just by speaking.
To this day “IT’S IN THE HOUSE” is the most haunting voice line

"They haven't come back from the fields it's been 3 days....." That is the line that terrifies me the most. If you read the short story for Fiddle the guy telling says Fiddle stalked and tormented the town for like months before he finally "attacked" made the people paranoid turned what was once a thriving town into slums turned friends and family against each other one by one lanterns on people's houses going out night by night...until....well I think the video explains it well....
What makes it worse is that you can tell who the people are from the quotes. From parents reassuring their children, lost travelers, people trying to help, and then there are kids. There were KIDS.

"brother please don't hate me" is from lux to garen, "sarah" is miss fortune's real name, "little light" is how sylas calls lux, "my little hero" is how nunu's mother called him when she was alive, "guilty!" is addressed to riven who feels deeply guilty about the horrors she committed during the campaign of ionia, "all your fault" is adressed to jinx and there's also a version were he says jinx name at the start, "grey man" reference kindred's first form before they split themselves in two out of loneliness.
there's a few more quotes directly addressed to champions that don't appear in that video: "vannis don't hurt her" to sylas, "vayne. give us a smile", and "brother how could you betray us?" to yasuo.

Fiddlesticks douse uses quotes from otheres but they are quotes he heard not his victims, the lines “brother please don’t hate me” and “little light” are from people who are still alive in current lore (those two being lux and sylas). Now for the lore part of those line *confetti and cheering* , little light is what sylas calls lux (because of her light magic and possibly because she is the only mage to be able to walk around demacia (imho that is), while the lines “brother please don’t hate me” is from lux and her fear that garen will hate her just for being born with magic.

What I love about Fiddlesticks so much is that so far as I can tell, there is no concrete lore for its origins or its nature. I haven't checked lately, but if there is I don't wanna know. In a world like Runeterra where tentacled aliens from beyond the colors of time, swaggering space dragons, immortal shortstack goblinoids, mechanically-augmented serial murderers and every flavor of wizard imaginable are par for the course, and all of which have fairly concrete explanations, there is also just...this thing. Nobody knows what it is, where it came from or if it's even really sentient. It's just a shambling, chameleonic, scrapmetal scarecrow that kills indiscriminately and without any acknowledgement of its own actions. I like to imagine even vast repositors of knowledge like the Kinkou or Aurelion Sol or Zilean don't like to talk about Fiddlesticks because even in a world this crazy, Fiddlesticks just not being able to be accounted for is a deeply disturbing implication.
Are we all gonna ignore that fiddlesticks says LAMB TELL ME A STORY!?!?!? That's a line form the wolf and lamb champion!!!!! Ya know DEATH?!?!?!!!!!

God, the rework of Fiddlesticks is phenomenal. They turned it from a kooky-looking scarecrow to a vaguely-humanoid nightmare thing made of jagged steel and burlap, held together by primal darkness.
From 2:17 to 3:05 the voice lines tell a short story
2 brothers walk out on the field to see a strange figure (fiddlesticks) the brother (possibly the older one) reassures that it's just a scare crow, the following voicelines almost tell it all, Fiddle sticks is alive, alot of running and panting, one of the brothers hide inside the house while the other brother is left to die outside screaming to get in.
