Great videos, keep up the good work, I am looking for a small boat to go a bit deeper, anytime you guys up my way give us a shout, keep up the Dad and son team, my Dad, son and I normally go fishing to

      I live near the Bristol Channel, so I’m Hoping for Thornback’s, however due to the snow and the rain recently there is a lot of fresh water in the channel which is killing the fishing

    Great video Graeme, nice to see some plaice fishing from a boat. One thing I very soon noticed when I emigrated out here to Oregon, the American fishermen bleed fish straight away (if keeping them). Also as I now do, the fish go into a cooler with ice or an ice slurry. Let's face it, a nice king salmon soon turns into a stinking mess on a hot day and as the limit is two salmon each a day, with three or four people fishing, you could be out for a few hours.

    Fishing the river wear yesterday, was really murky (lots of recent rains), still managed to pull 1 plaice in, while my friend pulled in 2 dabs. So okay, its a small catch, but a day by the river is better than sitting in the house.

    Thanks lads, very informative, as usual. I've nearly finished preparing my boat for its first wetting, and thought of trying for plaice first time out, as I can fish on the drift, and won't be too far out. I'm launching in the Teifi estuary, Cardigan Bay- are plaice put off by lots of fresh water in the estuary mouth, meaning it's better to find a sandy bottom a little further offshore?

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  6 років тому +1

      Mussel beds is what we tend to fish over as the Plaice hang around them feeding .But I hear what you are saying,there is still a lot of freshwater coming down the rivers.I think it will be better when the salinity increases again.

    Thankyou Graeme these are my favourite videos. Have been tempted to trade my broads boat ( a Shetland 610 with 30hp Merc ) for something a bit more sea worthy but although I've lived by the sea all my life I am ignorant of all the dangers of taking a boat out and would probably come to grief.
    Not fishing at all at the moment the fishing off the beach here is not worth the bait. Lots of issues with poisonous stuff getting washed up on the beaches I'm sure you know all about that. Fishermen been warned not to eat the dabs.

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  6 років тому +1

      So what is the poisonous stuff getting washed up on the beach ?? Not heard about the advisory on not eating Dabs..What about other species ?

    • @davidharvey5672
      @davidharvey5672 6 років тому +1

      TAFishing well this is a big question for us here. As I've said before, fishing has become abysmal here over recent years. For me i started to see reports of dogs being killed or made very ill after being walked on beaches. Most people though this was due to palm oil which covers our beaches even now. The official line, following tests done after the second dog died was that molluscs, starfish etc had become poisonous from algae much to the amusement of local fishermen who said the dangerous algae was a summer issue and not when the toxicity occured in winter! Several occurrences of beaches covered with fish or crustaceans or both washed up then got reported with videos of fishermen searching through for any living ones to put back to save stocks. We then had the fisheries people say don't eat dabs because they eat the poisonous creatures. The life washec up was blamed on storms. As far as other fish is concerned, it's guess work as is what account you choose to believe. For me, i don't beach fish anymore and the way my joints are now it would need to be worth it. I think something has been dumped in the sea. Huge hauls of hard drugs were found on a couple of occasions. Cheers Graeme and thankyou for all you do for the likes of me.

    Would some frozen peelers work this time of year for flatfish shore fishing? Love the rigs btw

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  6 років тому +1

      I would use a half peeler,so you might at least pick up a Plaice of any size,that way you know something is there.

    Spend hours watching you make cuppas and spaghetti lunches 😉.
    I never fished the sea in the UK.
    But i do in Australia. Flounder isnt something people target in the main. But i like em. Checking these rigs and wondering would something like tinsel be ok rather than a sppon? Ill give it a go..but ill be fishing from a boat..drifting.
    Cheers mate.

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  5 місяців тому

      I can't speak for trying visual attractors on Flounders from a boat but for sure it works on Plaice,and from a boat drifting.. In fact that is our standby rig so anything with a bit of flash should work .Good luck with it.

    I know this is cheeky but is there any chance you could show some diagrams of rigs. I can never quite get the actual way they are put together. I don't even have a clue what a lot of the terms you are using mean. It's reeeally confusing to try and do without some sort of reference. What is tied to what and where is essential and a complete mystery without being able to see exactly how it's put together. Thanks :)
