I have the same one - SS no-date. I’ve had over a hundred - maybe more?..watches over the years and I feel the Ginault punches above it’s weight class. Regardless of what you might think of the people behind the brand, the actual watch is a great piece. Bezel action, case finishing (on mine) and the bracelet quality make it a winner. Criticisms from myself would be - there is a sharp case edge on the back of the watch - it does not touch the wrist - but you will notice the rear of the lugs as very sharp - as Rob alludes to in this review. There is a ghost position - which I forgive - because there are 2 versions with 3 options - obviously with all the same movement. Super comfortable on wrist, not too heavy - very versatile. I’d say anybody on the fence as far as the product quality can proceed - I do understand where the brand history can be a problem for some. These people know where to source very high end components at a reasonable price - that much is clear.
I recently got the traveler model on loan from Ginault please go and check out the unboxing video and I will be doing a review video comparing the traveler and diver model this weekend
Mine finally arrived today. Took a little longer than I was hoping for. Nearly 4 months. But I'm absolutely blown away by the quality of this thing for the money. It feels every bit as premium as a Submariner. And that bezel action is * chef's kiss *
I have the date/no cyclops version-love it! Mine runs -1 sec/day. And Rob is right, the Helson Sharkmaster can coexist with the Silent Service (I have both). FYI- the Sharkmaster has been restocked if anyone is interested.
Makes sense if you've ever handled some very high end replicas. Weight, hand feel, bezel, all almost identical to genuine. It's a smart move for a replica maker to go legit and charge a bit more for better QC which is always the killer when going with a rep.
Yeah but more than a 99 percent Clone the bracelet comes from China. It’s basically a Rolex replica bracelet that you can buy at a Rolex replica is the best replica for $500.
Great watch, I own the same no date and have no complaints. The overall word to describe it is svelte. From the tactile feel of the bracelet to the bezel action. The only gripe I have was that some of the lug edges were quite sharp so I had to use some polishing cloth to wear those down.
Had mine since August, and I love it. I was losing interest in most 1:1 homages already; this watch was the final nail in that coffin. I don't need them after owning this (though still maybe considering San Martin's "BB36").

I’ve never handled the Ginault, how does it compare to the Steinhart Ocean One? Do I save my money and get the Ocean One 39mm or do I pay the extra for the Ginault?
Depends on your budget. It's definitely much better than the Steinhart in terms of finishing and bezel action. They also regulate these. But definitely hard considering how good Steins are at their price range.
Far better. These are similar to high end Submariner reps but you're paying an extra $500 for better QC. With the high end reps they are almost identical unless you use a loupe.
@@richardvanfrank8114 No I didn’t. I understand the direction they went but to wait so long for them to just use the same case as the Skyquest seems crazy. They didn’t offer any additional colors either. I wanted an Opalin dial at least.
I am thinking the same. I am going to pull the trigger on the SS. It is half the price of the Ocean King with only a slightly inferior movement. I am going to miss the 56 hour power reserve offered by the Ocean King.
Great review of a very nice watch. Wish the lugs curved some. Would make for a better fit on my 6.75" wrist. I'd definitely buy if they curved downward
Bought the OR2, must admit the watch is of excellent quality. No need to list it's pluses. I would like to see a modern sub with sword hands. A good looking watch. However, is it only me who's becoming increasing suspicious of smaller/micro brands using solid case backs and non-standard (I know!) tool patterns. I get why the big boys did this, to enforce servicing at ADs and allegedly reducing the chance of scratching, but with micros? Are they trying to stop the customer from inspecting the movement they've purchased without the extra expense and a fair bit of luck on tool buying? I'm not having a go at Ginault, as they are far from alone, but I wish they'd all revert to tried-and-tested case-removal patterns.
