At the start of the war, they said Russia can only afford to lose 500 tanks and they were only making 600,000 shells for artillery a year. Yet russia has lost over 7000 tanks and is making 3.3 million shells a year and found another 12,000 tanks in storage they took back when the USSR collapsed. Along with 23,000 artillery. Some dating back to the 60’s and 70’s but they are being updated with better range finders.

Since Boris says this is a war to defend Western hegemony, does this mean that Western hegemony is ending? An entire generation of Ukrainians have been thrown away for nothing? Sad indeed that Ukraine didn't make the same choice as Costa Rica. Opting out of proxy wars is always the best choice.
Europe will deploy soon. This is what Russia is preparing for here. Giving themselves some border room. I don't think continuing western hegemony exactly has very much to do with it.

it doesn't seem like a big offensive, a few buildings blown up and some minor injuries? where are the 1000s of troops military vehicles and aircraft,the 100s or 1000s of shells being launched? All this footage shows is a few bombed buildings and 10 or 20 troops moving in?

I feel very sorry for these people. It must be terrifying. I don't buy the version of history which blames NATO expansion for Putin's aggression ,but I am concerned that some Western media channels continue ot paint the situation for Ukraine as essentially rosy - their final victory inevitable etc. This is very questionable.
Ask yourself the question, why did NATO form at all? and why Russia was not accepted into NATO when Putin asked the US leadership about possible membership. NATO at the borders of Russia and the deployment of any long-range missiles at the borders of Russia is a danger. And that is why the Russian Federation is now deploying new military facilities closer to the Finnish border. It was NATO that came to Russia's borders, not Russia that came to the United States with its weapons.

I also feel for them. I don't buy it either. I had a girlfriend from Moscow between 2016 and 2021 and during covid I was checking the Moscow Times website almost every day to see when the Russian borders would re-open to the UK. There were many Russian civilians angry with Mr Putin in January 2021, including my girlfriend, after the release of the documentary by Navalny's team called 'Putins Palace' showing a very large complex near to Sochi, basically showing to Russia, that Mr Putin had been gobbling up all their money for many years to build this private complex.
Just over a month later (Match 2021) the Russian military were magically on Ukraine's border for 'training purposes'... From the opinion of someone who loved Russia for many years, tried to learn the language and met many great people and friends from Russia, it comes across to me that Mr Putin had to quickly divert the attention of an angry population elsewhere, using the art of projection to blame others for his own actions. I have a Russian language tutor from Kharkiv in Ukraine who has been teaching me the Russian language since October 2019. I still stay in touch with her and check how she is even though I don't need to speak Russian anymore. Russian people are nice people as are Ukrainians but Mr Putin is an aging, aggressive, mentally ill, very sick individual who has sent thousands upon thousands of Russian people to their deaths, blaming half the globe. Many of the Russian youtubers I followed for years to help me with Russian, including one with a PHD in Russian history left Russia for a reason..
So what was the point of NATO expansion? I am sure it was to bring freedom, democracy, puppies and rainbows to "the tyrannical Russia."

I agree the fortifications protecting the city of Kharkiv might be good, but they will only stop armour/vehicles. Infantry could still get in and the city could be pounded by artillery if they get any closer.

Peace? Who will Russians talk to?) There is no opposite side, that can join the negotiations right now. Zelenskiy is not a legitimate president anymore. His presidency has officially ended. The strike was carried out on Wednesday morning by American-made shells. Local residents say that after the attack some kind of smoke appeared and complained about difficulty breathing and vomiting.
Ukraine lost this war a year ago. Now youre seeing the final push from the North that will inevitably draw resources out of Kyiv. It can also be viewed as a bait and switch play from the Russians. If Kyiv doesnt reinforce they lose the north creating a massive pincer opportunity from the Donbass into Kyiv. Damned if they do, damned if they dont.
Once Russians are back in Kyiv they will likely take Odessa and ultimately force peace negotiations in my personal view.
