I think Pink Floyd were always at their best as a live band, so I’d choose a live version over the studio version. The Pulse version is great, but I’d probably go for the performance in The Delicate Sound of Thunder concert...

This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written and recorded. They wrote it about former bandmate Syd Barret, one of the original members. He left the band after struggling with mental health problems and schizophrenia. The "video" that someone cobbled together kind of diminishes the real emotion being poured out during the song. Waters on the album: "There’s one song that’s about Syd (Shine On You Crazy Diamond), but the rest of it isn’t. It’s a much more universal expression of my feelings about absence. Because I felt that we weren’t really there. We were very absent."
Waters on the title track: "In a way it’s a schizophrenic song. It’s directed at my other half, if you like, the battling elements within myself. There’s the bit that’s concerned with other people, the bit that one applauds in oneself, then there’s the grasping avaricious, selfish little kid who wants to get his hands on the sweets and have them all. The song slips in and out of both personae, so the bit that always wants to win is feeling upset and plaintively saying to the other side, wish you were here.”
This is a beatiful song but Shine on you crazy diamond from the same album dirves me nuts.

The secret to playing this song longer is to play the whole side of the lp, as all the songs are connected to one another, and are meant to be heard together!

Pink Floyd Pigs From the Animals album. Also Dogs from the same album. Sheep for that matter. Basically 3 songs on the album not counting "Pigs on the Wing". All humans can be divided into one of 3 categories, Sheep, Dogs, or Pigs. You are amazing to watch. Not only are you stunning, the emotion that you express is so moving. You bring this old man to tears every time I see you experience the songs I have grown to take for granted. It renews my appreciation for these songs I have heard 1000 times and which helped shape my character. Rock on Empress.

How i wish I was there with you, you are a bombshell.
Remember one thing - Pink Floyd should only be listened to with headphones. There are so many quiet background sounds that you can't hear them when listening through acoustic speakers. This is a quiet sigh, and a quiet muffled conversation and flipping through a book, splashing water, etc. You will not hear them otherwise. Gigantic sound engineering work in the studio. Each background sound is precisely calibrated in volume and in its place. Even the beginning of this song represents the sound from an old wheezing radio when the owner turns the tuning knob, sniffing, but there is still airy radio noise - just brilliant.
The song is short, but like with all Pink Floyd albums, it´s meant to be heard together with all the other songs on the album like a flow and that is when the greatness of their music really strikes

you should review the entire Pink Floyd Album ( Wish you were Here ). in one take. It only makes sense as an album. and before that Dark Side of the Moon. Same brief. they are connected. so connected. each song so many levels so many things going on. and their videos you are missing sooo many messages indicators flags ….
this album and Dark Side been listening to all my life. It takes on new meanings each decade. new meanings get revealed. That’s why it’s among the greatest music ever payed down IMO.
