I bought an MX5- NC during the slight summer drought this year (2022) and guess what ? ...yep ..been raining almost every day since. But I still like to drive with the hood down due to the 360 degree safer visibility. (Weather permitting).

Read your review & was impressed with the very detailed way you did it.I'm from Canada & most of the reviews over here are rubbish.Just bought a 2011 with the hard top.Had it 2 months only & everything you mentioned about it is true.We have hard winters here & it came with a free set of winter rims & tires.Drives great in the snow also.Looking foward to the Spring & the better weather to enjoy it more.
I drove mine in amalfi coast sorrento napoli ...pure driving experience!

I believe it has a carbon fiber hard top.
I finally got a triple black 2012 NC2 Mx-5 GT 6MT with Bilstein suspension. I can't get enough of this thing. I love it.
I did change the tired suspension for coil overs, and replaced the wiper stalk for the RX-8's. Now it is even more fun.
I am also thinking of replacing the windshield wiper stalk to the rx-8 style. Looks super simple to install.

@@Brockthedog315 I paid about 35 bucks on Ebay for a used one. It matches the rest of the interior perfectly, and it works as it should.

I want one. I have a Mazda 3 which is also a hoot to drive. When the time is right, I must get an MX5 as my summer car.
Get the PRHT model & use it all year round.I live in Canada & use it 4 seasons.With snows & winter rims of course in the winter.Works great for me.
I bought a 2010 Miata and I love it. I love drive I have a Cadillac XT4 so I'm used to driving larger cars This car is perfect for a summer car or just a adult toy, I find myself staring at the miata, I can't take my eyes off of her. I feel like a minion, I now know what all the hype is about now.
Yes, a grown ups toys is how I describe MY mx5... and reminds me of the Disney film "Cars".. lots of vehicles as well as a few mx5's there.

Yes. Engine requires a diagnostic check. :)
G Allan I its probably the exhaust return valve stuck closed! This can increase the mpg, but not damaging !
Adult Go cart it is the fountain of youth. Great car for tourists.
The trunk has enough room for luggage.

What I want to know is. Is the motor in the front or the back as he did not mention or look at the motor and is it rear or front wheel drive.
Front engine (more midship actually) rear wheel drive. Super fun to slide around in.
My opinion is: standard seats are useless when fast cornering, the driving position would be perfect if the steering wheel was adjustable for reach, forget about any comfort when stiffer suspension on board, if you are looking for everyday car to drive and want relaxing time after the whole day at work forget about it. Mazda needs attention in every second because every even short trip is like a racing for Mazda.
Apart that it drives like more expensive sports cars eg. Boxter and there is fun to drive it. But I would recommend to have it as a second car in a family.
LKwroc I got the Recaro Seats - they have good support but when youre a little bit bigger (from eating too much or muscular) they are narrow.
Sorry to disagree on so many levels LKwroc but mine is a daily driver ( 1 year duration) and has a ride quality and comfort directly comparable to my other family hatchback cars..and I'm in my fifties, no spring chicken. My car enhances my day when I come out of work, almost an automotive anti-depressant.The car is extremely relaxing unless you deliberately provoke the rear in the rain to make it wag its tail :-( I will concede to one major downside though; it goes nowhere in the frost or even a light dusting of snow, its way too light for the width of the tyre-print.
Never had a problem with snow tires mounted all the way around. My Miata with winter tires was better in the winter than Rav 4s on all seasons. Limited slip diff helps, too.
Mike b; That's a very valuable post, thanks. I put the MX5 to bed in the winter as I have the use of a FWD hatchback. I have considered the winter tyre option but I could not find anyone to offer an experienced opinion on the difference and as you quite rightly say, my lack of LSD (1.8) was a factor in the decision not to buy winter tyres. Thanks for putting the situation into context with the Toyota.
I agree on one basic point.If you have a family it only has 2 seats & as a trip car with the family in tow it wouldn't work.

Hi from Athens Greece.. i just bought my MR2..
The pop up lights i heard,were removed to decrease pedestrian damage in a accident.
They also freeze in the winter in the open position in colder climates.
Thanks Dave did not realise that,i have one myself 97 low milage ,we dont get that severe cold in Ireland more chance of Damp and rust
Had 4 miatas fun to drive but I'm 6' 1 215 pounds and the Z4 is way more comfortable
It's also twice the price too.Nice that you can afford the comfort.I'll just be frugel myself & save the money.I guess you probable could afford it too since you must have sold all 4 of your Miatas to get it.
4 Cup holders in a 2 seat car??? Oh right, 2 for cups and 2 for the bottles.
Needs 2 more to put your sun glasses & your spare change.
Reason being put a drink in the door open slam door and drink spills put it in central one while you change gear and it interferes with arm so you switch for different times
@@stevelufc64 i reccomend after market console pocket it fix perfectly and complete with another 12v socket

@@steveyj75 local garage. just for a bloody bulb! when i found out that you basically had to take a wheel off to put a bulb in or have extremely thin arms and hands :(

My 2011 mx has automatic traction control?
There should be a button switch near the fog light switch to disable traction and stability control. When disabled, a yellow dash light (with swerving tire symbol) will come on. I'm not sure if this was available on the base model.
My 2008 had no traction control. Gotta be careful when it rains!
What about metal roof for convertible 2021/ 2022 models.? Why can’t that be done because it seems unrealistic with today’s technology

That "Three piece folding metal roof" is made of plastic, not metal...
It's aluminium! And it's 2 piece.The back portion,you think is the roof isn't. That portion raises from the back separately while the front 2 portions (which are the roof)lift then fold under the non roof back section.Then that section folds back down over the roof.If you have the car I don't understand how you didn't know about the roof.If you don't have the car then I understand your confusion.
@@verdict4me i have the 2009 1.8se, that back bit that lifts up to allow the roof to retract, what's that made of? I have very small paint bubbles close to the edge along the nearest side closest to the rear window. I first thought its rust underneath.
Yes....the Mazda Miata put the unreliable convertibles out of their horrendous misery......
I was told the roof was painted carbon fiber.
That it 's only on the 25 th anniversary version,a limited edition series , only 100 cars produced in 2014..
@@cesarelodesani1384 Well, it doesn't feel like metal when knock on it. It is not as cold as metal, and it sounds like plastic. It may not be carbon fiber, but it definitely is not metal.
@@vlenhoff yes, because it's made of fiberglass, to reduce the overall weight addiction of the hard top. But that carbon look painted in black i saw only in that version that i mentioned above

The muffler bearings are carbon fiber.
