I'm planning to buy 16 pro in USA (EMI payment), but apparently my friend said that phone will be locked until the full payment is done and can't use it in India as it remains locked, though it is bought in aptronix without any carrier tied. Do I need to unlock it in India? or how does it work?
Cellular service charges and phone charges are separate. You have to pay both. Think of phone charges as EMI for your phone. It has nothing to do with the cellular services like data, calling, etc. So if you don’t pay to cellular bill then your calling services will be affected.
I have had positive experience when ordering products from Ebay. They have great customer service. However, I would say a lot depends on the seller you are purchasing from, so check their review and return policy.

Well if the phone is truly unlocked then there will be no regional lock. Also a good practice in this confusion would be to check the phone online for the network frequency bands it supports. And then check if the same is supported by your Indian network carrier. But considering this is one of the latest models from Samsung it should work without any issue.
There's a catch for getting a bigger discount. They DO NOT apply your trade in discount towards your new phone they lock you in for 36 payments and apply your discount to your bill each month, so if you want to upgrade, you have to pay it off. Even though you have the credits. So you would have to pay for att NEXT service to upgrade every year. It's an extra 5 or 10 dollars a month. I'm just going to trade with samsung to get 600 dollars off instead of 1000 dollars off and get free headset and major discounts on other items.
In my opinion, Unlocked is always best. Gives you more freedom. But if you are sure that you wont be switching network carriers, then locked version can save you money.

Yes. But locked phone can also be sold by official store if you want to tie it with a network carrier discount.

It can be both. If it says in the title as ‘Renewed’ or ‘Refurbished’ then it is used. Otherwise it will be brand new.

How is locked version cheaper? Example, I see at&t charging $999 for iPhone 16 pro if i get a locked phone with their carrier.
Usually a device trade-in is needed to get the best offer. Without a trade-in pricing can be same.
