How to Start a Phone Flipping Business | Full Guide

- Flipping phone is how I upgrade phones for free and when I was in college it was how I made some extra money. Today I'm going to give you a full-blown guide on how to start this business.

1. What do You Need ( Money and Tools )
- I recommend you start with 2 generations older phones for practice ( they are cheaper and the margins are better )
- For iPhone starting out with the Xs or X model is going to be fine
- Starting with a 12 is not a good idea, to expensive and you won't make a lot of money
Requirement:
- Save up $300-$500 to get started or $100-$150 to get started with older phones
- Signed up for eBay, Paypal, Facebook, Mercari, Craigslist, Offer up, swappa and let up (these are going to be the websites we can use to buy iPhones and also sell them)
- Btw this video is not about buying and flipping phones with Cracked screens ( I have a full video on that linked down below, but this one is all buying good condition phone selling them for a good price )
2. How much to Pay for a Phone and How to sell it
- This is the number one questions I get asked
- And the answer is simple
- And you’ve probably done it a few times
eBay and Facebook:
- We are going to pick a phone like iPhone x
- Go to eBay, swappa, and Facebook and see what the current market price is and your buying price
- And start sending messages and negotiating
Calculator Math:
- Sale Price is $300
- Ebay Fees are 10% = -$30
- Paypal Fees: 2.9% +30 cent = $9
- Shipping Cost =$10
- Profit you want - -$50
= $201 to buy price
However:
- You can skip the middle man which eBay and PayPal by trying to resell the phone on Facebook
- So if you buy it for $250 and sell it for $300 that’s a $50 profit
- A lot easier
Tip: crack phones and apple fixing prices and go to a third party
3. What to Look out for when buying a Phone
- Stolen phones, iCloud locked phones, and Phone with balances on them
- Also look out for people trying to rob you and potentially hurt you
Here are 3 rules I follow to avoid this:
- I only meet in public areas ( apple store is my favorite, Tmobile store is my second favorite )
- I don’t meet at night unless it's going to be in a very public area with people looking at us
- If it sounds too good to be true it usually is ( you have ever seen an iPhone 12 goings for $700, those are stolen directly from stores )
Here is How:
- Brand New iPhone for Discount: scammers use fake identities to pull the phones out and plans and then sell it to you, but it's going to get blacklisted. ( the only way to use the phone is outside the US )
- Phone has Icloud Lock: you can't remove it, most likely stolen or lost and found
- Phone has a balance: the person didn’t pay the phone off but wants to sell and then you’ll get stuck with the problem
How I prevent this:
- I usually only buy phones that are unlocked or I ask the person to unlock it before selling it to me
- I meet them with Sim cards to make sure it's unlocked
- I use IMEI checker to make sure the phone is not blacklisted
- And if something smells fishy, I have them call the company to see if it has a balance.
Tip: For people with no money, sell your phone and buy a cheaper one and use those profits to start.

Hey! Great content for all starting entrepreneurs! One question though: Can it be applied as a rule, to price products at 60-70% or their value when BUYING? Or how should i approach this?
Typically what I like doing is figuring out how much I can sell the phone for and then offering 100 - 150 dollars below that.
That a good rule.ofmthumb.but if you want to make $30k ina month an corner the market cut your profit percentage to 20% what I do is buy 20-30 phones a day and I make 20-$40 a phone and sell them at the end of the day add it up
In my opinión you can aim for 70% profit of you do basic repair to the phone. You can get a locked phone for 50% of what is worth easily, and if you use doctorsim or other unlock service which charge around 30 you can make a lot of profit. Just make sure to verify that the imei is not blacklisted and that they used the phone for 6 months with the company... there's software for that as well.

What are some easy ways to determine if the phone is iCloud locked or the phone is stolen via an item that is shipped to you as opposed to an in person meet up? Since you are not seeing it first hand and being able to check those things before purchasing?

it’s around 88%-100% but it’s okay if it’s not u can actually buy a new battery from ebay or any other site and just replace it, then resell the phone so u can get back that money from battery and get some profit too. That’s what I usually do

Wait, why does it matter if the screen has been replaced? I know you said that you want to have the original screen but what if the original screen had a lot of cracks in it and was fixed with a new screen? Can you not still sell it and just say specifically that the screen has been replaced? What if the person replaced it with *another iphone screen and not some generic one? Sorry, I'm a bit confused in regards to that. I just got into this and I don't know too much about iPhones as of yet.
Might not be water tight with a new screen. Also any non original pieces might being the resell price down some....

You can sell them for parts potentially or talk to a store that sells phones and see if they are interested ( or also sell on eBay as is )

So I've been looking into phone flipping for a while now but since covid and indoor dining is closed it posses some complications since most people recommend meeting up in a place like Mcdonalds so you don't get robbed and so you can fully test the phone.
So my question is where have you all been meeting up to source and sell your phones?
I meet at like a kid park or a football practice kids game so if a get robbed etc killed there kids around also ima kid myself so I go with my dad to flip phones p

I flip full time and I rarely meet people inside. Only time i do is if it is say a large sum of money. I meet people at a public gas station by the front door. I even take my kids to most of my deals. It is all about how people look in their public profile's. Go with your gut.

How long does it usually take for you to buy and sell a phone?
For me it takes 1-2 days if its a good deal but if deal is bad then it usually takes up to two weeks. So try not to buy phone if you think the price is to high

No they don't contain phone numbers. What happens is when you place them in a phone that is locked to a carrier (i.e. Verizon) and not unlocked it will say Invalid Sim when you put it into the phone. An unlocked device should be able to use any Sim that you put into it.
Businesses charge way to much to fix it’s better to learn yourself buy the replacement screens they are cheap replacement back glass are even cheaper and both are super easy to replace

Source them from ebay or Amazon especially the Mexico sites should be much cheaper. And make sure all your transactions are done through PayPal for insurance guarantee as Tommy stated. Other places local area in Brazil. China Aliexpress...etc... just be creative!
