Isla Sorna is the largest of the islands within the Muertes Archipalego and it is this island that InGen began its genetic engineering of Jurassic Park's dinosaurs. This is also
the same island that is featured in both The Lost World: Jurassic Park as well as Jurassic Park 3, and the numerous differences in the landscape and vegetation seen in both films
of the series has become puzzling to some attentive audience members. One particular observation has led many to question the introduction of the star dinosaur of the third film
as well as its origins within the timeline of the series. The Spinosaurus featured in Jurassic Park 3 is shown to be, quite possibly, the strongest and most formidably destructive
    dinosaur on the entire island.
This video is specifically dedicated to the possibilities of The Lost World Spinosaurus being a probable thing. Many have searched for the terms Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Spinosaurus or Jurassic World Spinosaurus in general in the hopes of finding any information on the Jurassic Park 3 Spino but not much has come up as the Spinosaurus Isla Sorna is very different from the Spinosaurus Isla Nublar and the JP3 Spino will probably not make an appearance as one of the Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom New Dinosaurs unfortunately. Now if Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Sorna does indeed become a thing than a Rexy vs Spinosaurus rematch between the Jurassic Park 3 Dinosaurs may happen but I honestly don't want to see that. Mainly because the Spino vs T Rex thing has really been played out and seeing another Spinosaurus vs Tyrannosaurus scene would really take away from the Spinosaurus Mystery and make the Spinosaurus Returns idea kind of stale. That is just my personal opinion on the Spinosaurus Jurassic Park dinosaur being used in another T Rex vs Spinosaurus segment and should be taken as such.

Considering how large the island geographically is, I think it's certainly possible that Spinosaurus was already on there when the second film took place. After all, the expedition team haven't spent too much time on Isla Sorna, they didn't cover a whole lot of grounds either which means that there are still plenty that they haven't seen and Spinosaurus may just be one of those things. Personally, I don't believe that any organisms, no matter how overly aggressive it is, would be self-destructive enough to go after "anything" it detects. The JP Spino might be constantly itching for fights with other large predators on the site but that doesn't necessarily cloud its own judgement. There have been not one, but two fully-grown Tyrannosaurus Rex at that time, both far bigger than the bull T-rex which Spinosaurus have handled in the third film. Besides, Spiny was not yet fully-grown in Jurassic Park 3, that means that it was even younger and smaller in Jurassic Park 2, when the T-rex family ruled. Going after the pair of T-rex and picking a fight with them is a mean of suicide. What Spiny want is to stay away from them, as far as possible, that is why it was never seen in Jurassic Park 2.

The concept that the Spinosaurus may have been Henry Wu’s first dalliance with making hybrid carnivours is tantalizing. It would explain why Spino, Indominus Rex, and Indoraptor all seem to have an insatiable appetite and why they always end up in duel with a regular Dino like Rex or Blue or both.
Billy says to Grant when given the tooth, “I don’t remeber that being one InGen’s list,” and Grant says, “It wasn’t and that makes me wonder what else they are up to..” Perfect foreshadowing of Wu’s hybridasaurs. However, a simpler answer is the Spino was hatched and matured after The Lost World, as evidenced in Eric and Grant’s conversation in the InGen truck, “when Ingram left they left behind a lot of stuff,” to this Grant asks, “did they leave any weapons?” Now you could infer that Eric simply means from when InGen left fear behind in the Lost World, but it could mean InGen visited the island when Eric was there. However, this does not explain how Spino was already an adult Apex predator because Eric was only there eight weeks. So the more likely is Henry Wu and Masaroni/InGen developed the Spino between The Lost World and Jurassic Park III. If this is so, we then can view Spino as the first harbinger of hybrids, predating the Indominus Rex and Indoraptor.
Another fan favorite theory is the Spino is responsible for killing the crew on the boat that carries the Adult Buck Male T-Rex to San Diego. Story boards debunk this with scenes of Velociraptors and Pteradons attacking the crew. But the Spino could have been responsible. His crocodile snout did get into the Kirby rented plane with ease and could have gotten into the narrow entersnce to the bridge and eaten the man whose hand was on the wheel; then again a missing hand of arm is raptoresque; examples being Mr. Arnold’s in JP and the man eaten by the Indoraptor in his cage.

The obvious real world explanation is that they didn't care about continuity. In-world however, I would say that the reason the Spinosaurus wasn't in Lost World is because it was too young to challenge the Rexes, and therefore stayed in a small territory. When it got older and was able to take on larger prey, it became bolder. In JP3, it was in it's ... shall we say teenage "I'm invincible" stage, thus it's daring to take on even a Rex

As was seen in JP3, the Spinos territory is by the worker facility where Lost World ended. So, I think that the reason why the Spino attacks the Rexes in JP3 is because the Rexes tracked the humans into its territory during the events of Lost World. So that explains why it is so hostile to humans and Rexes in JP3. Both invaded its territory in Lost World, so it was defending against them.

Probably because in the Lost World we have a pair bonded coupling of two full grown Tyrannosaurus that are extremely protective of their infant. It would have to take on not one but two beasts of similar stature.

I would say in the events of lost world, with the Rex's moving as a family unit, perhaps that has something to do with no Spino. The fact 2 adults were running around as a team would deter it from entering their territory. Perhaps the events of lost world altered the Rex territory so much that they split up more with the extra space or to cover more ground. This would have given the Spino a 1 on 1 chance, and perhaps this lead to it's rise to the top.

The spinosaurus in JP3 looks nothing like an actual Spinosaurus, and concider how agressive the Spino acts in the movie, is it too far fetched to believe it to be a hybrid? the real spinosaurus had short stubby legs and mostly lived an aquatic lifestyle. while yes we do see the Spino in the movie being in the water with the boat scene, the Dinosaur they showed us is waaay to big with long legs, being bigger than the T.rex.
Sure it may be error from the people making the movie, since not a lot of information about the Spinosaurus was known around that time, but it is a fun theory to imagine it to be the first Hybrid. A ¨mistake¨ left on sorna. It would explain the errors with its irl counterpart.

The most recent canon information suggests the Spino was created in 1997 (A few months or so after TLW) by a small team of Ingen scientist that returned to Isla Sorna. The also made some ankylosaurus, corythosaurus and one other I can’t remember. They experimented on it for 9 months and then left.
This would explain the line in JP 3 that the spino wasn’t on ingen’s “list”.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Dr. Wu was one of the scientist that returned to the island and helped create it. It would honestly fit his JW character’s personality to do so.

We visited two spots they filmed the original JP: The island intro with the helicopter when John Williams' epic score enters (which is only accessible via boat tour) and the Velociraptor feeding pen (which was torn down before we visited and replaced with a beautiful botanical gardens that you can walk on and is a tourist hot spot).

Also since I finally got around to reading the books in recent years I enjoyed how similar his death is to John Hammond's in the novel.
Also I just want to give a huge thank you for your channel and awesome videos! I've loved JP since I saw the first one in theaters in '93 and your videos provide plenty of information about the franchise I didn't know, or even knew existed, and backup theories I've pondered relating pieces of the book to scenes in the movies! While new official JP movie releases are few and far between over the years, your videos offer up so much lore that it feels like a mini combination of book/movie version playing out in every single one. Thanks again!

Crichton's Lost World Novel alludes to the idea that the pack of Raptors on Sorna are...for want of a better term, "Feral," because they were abandoned on the island and had no parents to teach them about proper social behaviors and hunting patterns. Thus, they came off as more aggressive and wild than the Raptors from Nublar.
The expanded lore surrounding JP3 states that the Spinosaurus' creation was ultimately an accident surrounding a case of mistaken identity.
The engineers on Sorna at first believed that what they were creating was a clutch of Baryonyx eggs; the first two being real Baryonyx, but the third being the Spinosaurus.
The geneticists couldn't immediately tell the difference because the creature's sail wouldn't develop until maturity.
So the three animals were raised together...until Spino got big enough and aggressive enough, to realize that he could easily overpower the other two "siblings"...
    He ate them...
I wonder if what happened to the Feral Raptors is the same case that happened to Spino...It technically happened to the Indominus as well, but there are so many other factors that played into that; further complications that might overlap if the Spino IS a Hybrid.
So...My theory is, that because Spino didn't necessarily have any actual siblings to interact with, when it figured out that it was "different" from the other two, and didn't necessarily have anything "bigger" around to keep him in line...Spino started testing his boundaries...
In essence, it's a lot like what Indominus was doing; it was killing to see if there was anything that could stop it or at least stand up to it. Maybe that's why Spino kept going around intentionally looking for a fight with Tyrannosaurus; it wanted to prove that it was the biggest, baddest bastard on the block...
Granted, I somewhat disagree with Crichton's description from the Lost World, because that would mean that every single Dinosaur bred on the island and in Jurassic Park would be feral; it's not like they'd actually have parents to raise them BEFORE hand.

Funny you mention redwoods and tropical jungles. Ironically I think the tyrannosaurs favored the redwoods since that was one of their natural habitats and the Spinosaurus favored jungles since humid, wet, and swampy environments were natural to them. Personally I think the Spinosaurus just surveys its territory for rexes and takes them out for the sake of a T-Rex being a threat to its territory and a powerful rival.

Yea I've been saying this for a while. Everyone always forgets about that detail. That huge fence was the Spino's "pen." That fence was covering an area that was like about 10 square miles of territory, which is why we didnt see the Spino in the Lost World. It smashed the fence during JP3 when it was actively chasing the characters in JP3 like you said, and then it had the entire island to roam around freely. Isla Sorna is suppose to be astronomically larger than Isla Nublar also. Isla Nublar is like 25 square miles give or take, whereas Isla Sorna is suppose to be like the size of Jamaica or Puerto Rico in the books, so its a huge island. Where they were in the Lost World was probably like 100 miles away from where they are in JP3.

    • @Xadov
      @Xadov 3 роки тому +4

That doesn’t make sense considering the spino was already in the scene at the airstrip, and I find it unrealistic that Ingen would have such facilities INSIDE the spino’s pen. • @ReallyBritishOne

There's one idea that I haven't seen many people suggest, but the evidence to support it actually goes back to the very first movie - the idea being that the plant life on Sorna, like the Spinosaurus is genetically engineered.
Ellie Sattler says to John Hammond that Ingen has chosen plants for Jurassic Park simply because they look good, but that like the dinosaurs they have absolutely no idea what century they're in.
It would make sense that if Ingen wanted to create dinosaurs from so many different parts of the world, it might have been easier to engineer environments for them rather than engineer the dinosaurs themselves. Such meddling would have made sense on a testing ground like Isla Sorna. They might even have done similar on the other islands.
Hypothetically, in 1997 the Spinosaurus may have been resident to a part of the island that Ingen had engineered a more tropical flora. That flora - the more tropical and dense forests we see in JP3 - would abundantly support prey the Spinosaurus was capable of easily bringing down (unlike the drier, wider plains we see in TLW which would have been abundant in more dangerous herbivore giants like the Sauropods). It's feasible that by 2001 this flora had spread like a contagion to other parts of the island - once introduced it didn't stop spreading. With that, the smaller herbivore species flourished and the Spinosaurus was able to expand its territory too. That'd also explain why by JP3, the command center looks far more overgrown with tropical growth.
Put more simply, whilst any theory is simply addressing inconsistency as a result of sloppy direction with JP3, it would actually make sense that Ingen is dabbling in the engineering and even possibly hybridisation of plants as well as animals (Ellie pretty much confirms it in JP1) - and Isla Sorna is literally an isolated cocktail of warped science.

And we’ve seen this divide in the opening to the lost world game too, when the island is shown. It makes sense to me that the mountains, much like real life, would create the dry forests on one side and the jungle on the other, and with the spinosaur being so large I can accept that it might not be able to traverse this central ridge and thus stay on its portion, whilst rexes could at a young age wander through to its part of the island-also explaining its territorial nature.

I kinda believe that ‘ol Shredder (what I call the Spinosaurus..), like the raptors from the first film, has a deep hatred of humans maybe due to some not so positive experiences in the past when the dinosaurs lived behind bars. Maybe he was around since the beginning, but he was kept in quarantine due to being too dangerous for a park setting. Most would say just because humans tasted good, but why would a giant super predator waste energy chasing down tiny morsels, hellbent on tearing them apart, unless he carries a grudge against said morsels..

Even other non apex predators could potentially challenge it if it were to be seriously injured in a fight , so I am sure the spino wouldn't just willy nilly roam.

Always wondered if they bred a normal spino first before making the hybrid one.

That's my theory. They managed to create a Spino, Wu saw it differentiated GREATLY from what they, at the time, thought it looked like. Seeing as Hammond wanted to create creatures that looked as closely to what they thought they looked like, Wu decided to see if he couldn't "make" the Spino like they thought it looked like.
When he noticed that splicing together Spino, Baryonyx and Suchomimus DNA wasn't all that difficult (kind of relatives), he decided to challenge himself and threw in something completely different: Raptor.
This explains WHY the Spino seems so intelligent, is hyper aggressive and follows around the survivors: it's holding an immense grudge (something we've seen the Raptors do in JP with The Big One).

Well, it wasn't on Ingen's list, so it was unlikely. The Spinosaurus wasn't entirely well known, and it would make sense to only have one or two super predators (I am obviously talking about the T rex, but its debatable about velociraptors, due to their intelligence). The T rex alone would be able to make back the money spent on all initial expenses for the park, within 5 (at most) years. The other dinos would just expedite that.

Im Sorry But You Can’t Afford That actual spino was longer than the movie one. Just walked differently. No scientist doubt it was larger than a trex.

Extinction Level: Jurassic Park goes with the Spino not being on Sorna at the time of TLW as was just reveiled in episode 12. In EL:JP timeline it was created about a year later, making it 3 years old. A hint at how this dino already had the size it had has already been given in an earlier episode, but will be addressed again later on ;)

Arjan Bos precisely, ingen dinosaurs reach adulthood at 3 years old, that's how old rexy was during the events of Jurassic park.

Viktor Lecter even though this is a 6 month old comment it’s exactly what I’ve been thinking, the Spino(s) were created as island defenses so no one would be stupid enough to go back to sorna on account of two big ass dinosaurs that love water hide in

Yeah, I think that it just took place in different sections of the island. Even the JW Lego game shows it on the map, so that's all I can think of for now :) I never knew that detail about Eric finding the cattle prod! That would've been a nice nod to TLW! I'd LOVE to travel to those locations, especially the Redwoods!

Knowing what we know now about the Spinosaurus, your thumbnail is spot on, even that some scientist debate over the tail, crocodiles also don't propulse themselves totally by their tales, they literally walk in the river floor using the tail as secondary propulsion, so the idea of Spinosaurus being the dinosaur answer to crocodiles is not far off. Even by the sizes of the animal, is more probable that he hunted in lake banks than in rivers, but I not think there would be river deep enough to hide him.

I think the lost world rexes were aware of the spino which is why they were territorial they didnt want the Humans to jepordize the young rex by accidently calling it in

  • @Bird-Birdy-Love

Their is a possibility that isla sorna might make an appearance again in the next film, i mean think about it, where as else can u re locate the dinosaurs you managed to save from isla nublar? the only other place would be another new isolated island, but it would be better to relocate them back to sorna, as for the spinosaur, the best explanation to it, is that it must have been a stand alone clone back when ingen were still first cloning dinosaurs, the process resulted an abnormality in the gene splicing and the result is the spino we have here, it was intended to be discarded, hence not being in the list but the company left the island before they do, i still think their is only one spino as unlike other dinos, we only see one single specimen, also the fact that it seems to live near the cloning facility itself, it makes sense that it originated from some isolated enclosure and left to form it's territory their.

My personal head-canon is that the Spino was on the other side of the island. As to it's fate, I imagine the Rex killed in JP3 was the juvenile from Lost World, having recently left it's nest and wandered into Spino territory. The buck and doe discover it's body (by smell, no doubt) sometime later and begin to follow the Spino. Ultimately a fight ensues, the hyper-aggressive Spino does not back down and, against 2 furious adult Tyrannosaurs, is defeated. InGen later discover and recover the skeleton, later putting it on display at Jurassic World.

    • @paivioselanne
      @paivioselanne Рік тому

The JP3 spinosaurus used to be seen on the dinotracker website, which is considered canon to the movies, so that disproves the theory unfortunately. He was also planned to be in both sequels to Jurassic World, but scrapped.

    Hey Klayton!
I just moved to Oahu a few months ago and the first thing I did was visit Kualoa Ranch where they filmed the scenes from the original. One of the reasons I moved out here was to be closer to the filming locations throughout the islands, haha. I even have a photo of myself with the infamous log from the gallimimus scene which was incredible experience and one I had dreamed about since a very young age. Just like you I have alway wanted to visit Eureka and the Redwoods in the Lost World, but until then I am going to explore Hawaii's filming locations.
If you do end up coming to Oahu, hit me up and we can hit the ranch and take notes and photos of the locations! I Love your page and content of course and I can say that your channel has filled the void of the Jurassic lore that I have been waiting for for a long, long time.
    Much respect bro!
    Regards,
    James
