  • This is the second video in a series about playing old-style shakuhachi honkyoku from the heart. Here I share some things that I've heard in Choshi as I've played it over the years. We also touch on the meaning(s) of the title of the piece, as well as the sonic philosophy behind classical shakuhachi and hitoyogiri "music."

    That was good and interesting. The story you tell makes much sense to me. For me it functions as a guide through the music/prayer; it brings purpose to Hon Shirabe. Thanks and love too 🙏

      Quite the opposite! This is where I'm enjoying myself the most. Sometimes I have emotions when I'm talking about things I care about, though :)
