    Just lovely vidio as also Robert can't agree with you more, in Strömstad I have true facing the shore and casted in 40 cm of water or less, and sometime...I do surprise my self when there is a strike. Thx for this tip and waiting 10 sec's was another good one of yours..... Regards Graham

    😄Great vid Robert! Yes, you are getting better at speaking to the camera. When I first saw you on Kanalgratis, I thought who is this babyface? Haha...But I have become a real fan.

    Great video - you’re absolutely right, sometimes the costal fish are very close to shore and I always cast parallel to the shore as well as I walk forward. I too have had to shorten my casts because of a hurt elbow from trying to blast out the line every cast. Awesome vid and cheers from the west coast of the US!

      Small natural looking flies, long retrieve stops, looking and observing, relaxing, loving being there.♥️

    Here on Vancouver Island, BC. our sea-run Cutthroat trout will follow, follow, follow a fly in before deciding to strike at it. So longer casts do make sense, sometimes. On the other hand, one of the largest sea-runs I've ever seen was scooped up by a Bald eagle not twenty metres down the shoreline from me. That fish was swimming in less than knee-deep water when the eagle snatched it up. That was an epiphany for me... I now cover the shallow water close-in before venturing deeper. Shallow water, less than knee-deep, pays off more often than not in a fish risen, if not always hooked,
    Cheers!

      Cool. Here it is different from time to time as well. I sometimes see that the biggest fish is more “brave” than smaller fish to go in shallow, exposed to birds etc.

    True,Robert.How many times a fish strikes a rod length or two away and seldom way out there.Tight lines.Beautiful sunset and you casting in the foreground.

    It’s the same thing fishing for sea-run cutthroat trout on the West Coast of NA. I’ve seen so many guys wade up to their waist and start launching line as far as they can while I was catching fish when I was ankle deep and making 10-15ft casts. Even seen fish rising behind guys a couple times.

    Hi Robert love your videos.. I’m going to fly fish for seatrout and bass this year in north wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 uk, can you recommend what rod reel and line i should use please. Which reel should I buy for saltwater fishing?

    What a question, yes you spooke them with the line :D im also a casting freak and love it shooting far but i had so many times seeing movement right where my line landed and knew, yep... That was my fish and its gone

    • @FlyFishingbyRobert
      @FlyFishingbyRobert  2 роки тому

      I have not seen sea trout spook by the line but I am sure I have done it many times

    • @pascalgermanfpv238
      @pascalgermanfpv238 2 роки тому

      @@FlyFishingbyRobert most certainly :D i heard that trouts are more afraid of stuff over them or on the surface then below the surface. So i guess a intermediate line shouldnt spook them so badly but sure it does when you just hit the fish on top of the head with it xD

    Are there any locations along the shore you favour eg near a small stream entering the sea; downwind of a stream in a bay; rocks, pebbles or drop offs etc.

      Hello Max. Great to hear! The only advice I can give about tenkara is get a real fly rod instead 😂 hope that you will have a nice trip!

    What do you think about spooking the fish while moving, would casting parallel to the shore make sense? Otherwise I took up seatrout fishing a year ago and tried to cast out as far as possible mostly, after focusing more on the moving and shallower water I started to get a lot better results.

    Enjoyed this video! Overall my casting is a bit rubbish (particularly in a coastal headwind 😅) so it often puts me off using the fly in saltwater, but started realising how many fish were hunting in the weed behind where I'd often be standing. Started focusing on short range and my catch rate definitely went up!

      Nice! So did mine even though I could cast far in that damn headwind 😁

    Robert, really enjoying your films , very informative.
    I know you have quite small tides in the Baltic but do you find sea trout react to the size of the tides where you are , or are weather conditions more important?

    Depressing and positive video! Depressing because Roberts "short cast" is my absolut maximum range with my fly rod. Positive because it seems to be enough to be able to catch a sea trout. Great video though ;)

      I don't like to over promise on what I will do but I hope to make a fly casting episode on what helped me improve control and distance.
