Werner is a "beer only drinking" guy. The character of Werner is based on Brösel's and his brother Andi's experiences. Werner's life is that of an apprentice plumber and biker that consists of consuming large amounts of beer and souping up his motorcycle, a chopped 1950s Horex Regina. Both regularly gets him in trouble with the police and the German vehicle safety agency TÜV who due to their expressed incompetency and imbecility are usually ignored and duped by Werner. In the movies, Werner is voiced by Northern German band Torfrock's singer Klaus Büchner (whereas Torfrock also wrote part of the original soundtrack of the first movie, and partly did for the sequels as well). In early comics, Werner's beer of choice was Flensburger Pilsener ("Flens" for short) which led to an unsuspected surge in sales for the Flensburger Brauerei which up to that point had only marketed their beer within Northern Germany and towards an older, more conservative demographic. Due to the success of the comics, the brewery faced an increasing demand among younger age groups all across Germany. The comics and movies would later switch to the fictional brand Bölkstoff (burp-stuff), however a real-life version of the beer is now being brewed and marketed by Flensburger Brauerei as well.
It was first made by Gilde Brauerei, because Flensburger was not interested. This led to a lawsuit regarding the cover of one comic album, where Werner was holding a bottle Bölkstoff and proclaiming "Besser is das" which could be interpreted as "This is better". Therefore thei had to manually black out that proclamation on the cover. I am one of the lucky guys who got the book before that zensorship took place.
One reason why you get more sick in a hospital is the lack of sleep, the standard hospital routine kills your sleep and Werner made this a topic of a comic.
you should definitively watch the whole movie... It's an all time classic here in Germany... there are 5 Werner movies but Beinhart is still the best. I would also recommend Werner - gekotzt wird später (the 4th one) there you get the second half time of the soccer match and a hilarious road trip through Germany
As a German i can give you some Background. Werner started as an indie comic in the early 80s and became more and more popular. In 1990 this movie came out and by then it was so popular it even had the comics beer brand like... for real. Until today. The comic itself was more for adults and to fans delight it wasn't toned down in the movie. Still the age rating is mild. You can watch the movie legally with 6 years. Werner is a young adult trainee in a small construction company where he and his best friend and supervisor barely do any work. When they do it ends in chaos. After work he is part of a Biker Club. It's funny to see the movie suddenly gets attention worldwide for his very hillarious and physical humor.
A funny side note. This episode is also depicted in the comic books but with a small difference: when Werner yells "Lights out!" you can see the doctor's office and one of the nurses says "Well looks like the patient in room 7 has ANOTHER one of his outbursts" So in essence they all knew he was a difficult patient (or rather driven crazy by the routine in the hospital)
This movie is part of my childhood here in northern Germany. It mocks German stereotypes, nurses, police officers, TÜV, his real boss he had been working for and many phrases made it into the language. Unfortunately it's near to impossible to translate it accurately. Watch the movie, highly recommended 😊
"Übersichtlich" is probably not what Werner wanted to hear 😂😂😂😂😂.. Went over my head as a kid, so I'm not too worried about others 😂 Either one has seen it by chance, when some stuff would've gone over one's head or later when it was funny 😂
This was mandatory to watch for me as the son of a plumber. Some of the shenanigans that Werner is up to on the construction site may or may not have been reenacted by my dad way back in the day. Like the acetylene gas bag bomb. Some of the original comic books have by now found their way onto my shelf. The hospital scene is one of the most famous ones, only second maybe to the soccer game. Funfact: Many of the locations in the cartoon are modelled after places that exist in real life. The farmers market where the soccer game takes place is pretty much the Exerzierplatz in Kiel. It still exists today, and there is a farmers market on Wednesdays and Saturdays (which places the soccer match on a Wednesday).
Since I animated in this movie, I can give you some background. This movie was definitely not meant for kids, as well as the comics - biking and beer drinking are no kid subjects. When the dream sequence of the girl on the island was finished, she was totally naked. Some of the best animation ever (by the animation director himself, Tahsin Özgür). But then the producer decided he wanted to get a 6+ rating insted of a 12+. What to do with the naked girl? Give her a bikini. And so I drew a bikini on each and every drawing ... it was a shame, really.
There's even this version on UA-cam "Werner im Krankenhaus (Werner in the Hospital) English hardcoded Subtitle". Same scene but with english subtitles.

To answer the question in the beginning: Werner is a comic for adults and older teens, not for children. Werner is a biker. He is in hospital here after an accident. It is early in the morning, he still is asleep and has a wonderful dream in which he is on an island in the sun with a beautiful girl. The joke is that he is brought into the not so romantic reality by harsh nurses several times. Werner is kind of a rebel who often brings chaos into the lives of square people without purpose.
There is the ending part of the scene after this that is missing here. Werner, still swimming in the barrell is coming across the four doctors who just got the siringes thrown into their noses and just comments "Immer diese drogensüchtigen Ärzte (always this drug-addicted doctors)" Then he meets Andy on his bike outside and says something like "lets get away, here are all crazy."
i only know german hospitals so i don't know how it is in other countries but here, they have early starts to their days, like 6 or 7 in the morning, everything gets busy and if you are used to sleeping in long, you wont have a good time here... and no, Werner is not really for kids even though its age rating is 6 and above. also werner did not go down well with critics, calling it a artistic and humoristic failure, it was a hit with the audience though but not with the critics.
I was one of the kids who got in contact with Werner comics in school at 8 years age. I remember falling into unstoppable hard laughter, never laughed this hard from a book again in my life. 😂 It was this day when I fell in love with the cartoons of Brösel, even if I didn't get most of the adult humour there... As a kid you filter differently.
Understanding German definitely helps..but this is also kinda attached to northern German anti-culture and humor. Btw., this animation was done old school without the help of digital equipment as nowadays. But thanks for choosing Werner to react on!
Washing the patients who are supposed to stay in bed, making the beds, change the dirty linnen ("Werner's" bed is full of cookie-crumbs), take the temperature and all that is often done by the nightshift before the "change of the guards" and that means it takes part very, very early. Breakfast is then distributed by the morning shift, but that, too, is done early. Only after that will the doctors make their round. The cartoon is a gross parady of course, and that is especially true for the sequence with the cleaning staff and their floor-waxing machine. Not only is that monster loud as hell, the lady screams louder than it for a new portion of floor-wax, all done in that archtypical local dialect of Northern Germans from a working class background. Forgive me for being the linguist on this issue. An "r" follows the vowel "e" a lot in German words. We Northeners do not articulate carefully, we mix the sounds. That means we elogate the vowel and squeeze our vocal cords at the same time to make it vibrate (like an "r") It sounds a bit like a duck's voice. "Brösel's" cartoons highlight a lot of typical Northern German characteristics and made them popular all over the German spaking world.

I always wonder about reactions to the simplest drawings of nude women. Children here in europe see this everywhere and no one is bothered by it. We are not as prudish as the Americans.
The Werner movies are classics for sure. And while they are for some reason rated for kids as young as 6 years old. But I don’t think anyone would have taken kids that young into cinema for that movie. The Werner comics were very well known. It’s more likely that teenagers would have seen it. And yea… graphic humor like that would probably not fly anymore today.
Not for kids, more like teenagers and adults. Though there are many scenes probably kids find funny. I watched it somewhere between 9 and 11, I would guess. A couple of scenes may seem too adult, but there are overall still relatable (like wanting to sleep) and other funny elements. This is a relatively extreme example, one can say. Someone in 6th or 7th grade was a fan of the comics, as one can imagine (as things are usually found "cool" below a supposedly "ideal" age). That was generally not a question much thought about, but if you knew more of the movie, you'd probably agree that most of it is harmless enough or that those things which aren't rarely stand out too much (or if they do, they are so crude and childish anyway, if you know what I mean, like that ending here). The humour of this movie also counts as outdated, by the way, not in a bad way, but that it simply can't be brought forward into modern times and was a result of a specific time and place (like also the accents are very local).
Naaahh, this isn't as much for kids, as cartoons like family guy or south park and stuff. This is more for young adults. I remember I had a Werner comic as a kid, my grandma found it, went mad, and brought it back to the book store, shouting at the shop owner like a Karen XD
WERNER..i watched the movie in cinema back then around 1990 or so. Aspecialy the northern-german accent is not easy to understand for non-german speakers and it is missing the point. For me, i watch the movie for at least one time in a year just for fun..
O.M.G. ! maybe you need to be german to understand this insane sense of humer - dunno 🙂 sorry but I can't explain it better. Werener is in the hospital and the only thing he's looking for is to be left all alone and have peace (and enuff time to wake up in the morning). But he' s be disturbed each and every 2 minutes and that drives him crazy . . . somehow. And he's looking for vengeance
just do the capturing and use english most the videos like that have that and werner or das kleibne arschloch are old but still funny as hell and still could run today i thing and live reacting sounds real good to like 1 day out of the week at a certain set time for example

Whomever thought it would be a good idea to wake sick folk at SIX IN THE MORNING deserves wet sleeves, good grief.
You can be Sure.. this is realy so.
Naaahh, this isn't as much for kids, as cartoons like family guy or south park and stuff. This is more for young adults. I remember I had a Werner comic as a kid, my grandma found it, went mad, and brought it back to the book store, shouting at the shop owner like a Karen XD
Hatte sich die Oma im Comic etwa wieder erkannt?😊
well it also was kinda the art style of the movies and also the movies are from over 20 years ago there shoul#ld be around 5 movies by now
Its no cartoon exactly for kids, but kids can watch it. Its not that "dark"
Its not for kids, its from a german adult comic
WERNER..i watched the movie in cinema back then around 1990 or so. Aspecialy the northern-german accent is not easy to understand for non-german speakers and it is missing the point. For me, i watch the movie for at least one time in a year just for fun..
Wir erlauben halt Zeichentrick und verbieten dafür Waffen die z.B. Schulmassaker anrichten. Auweia
btw. no, it's not a kids cartoon, but we have no problems letting them watch that, why would it be?
The Werner comics are not really for children.
O.M.G. ! maybe you need to be german to understand this insane sense of humer - dunno 🙂
sorry but I can't explain it better.
Werener is in the hospital and the only thing he's looking for is to be left all alone and have peace (and enuff time to wake up in the morning).
But he' s be disturbed each and every 2 minutes and that drives him crazy . . . somehow. And he's looking for vengeance
The Werner Movie is NOT for Kids
