It is not underrated. The movie is shit with its ridiculous accents, lousy acting and a lead who came across as a modern day teenager with no presence. I'm a history buff but I would have preferred spending 3 hours watching adam Sandler.
I'm also a history buff and if you think Adam Sandler is superior to this, you don't understand history OR acting. The film was very flawed due entirely to poor decisions on the part of its director Oliver Stone. His cast, on the other hand, were superb as far as they could be.

Watching this documentary makes me sad for everyone involved, especially Colin Farrell and Oliver Stone. All this hard work should've paid off. I believe what ultimately doomed this movie was the direction. Oliver Stone is a master, but his vision for Alexander was a misguided one. To show how great Alexander was, Stone should've let that greatness reflected in the men around him, should've shown more of the admiration Alexander's men had for him. Instead, so much of this movie is about how disenchanted his generals were, how much his soldiers wanted to go home, mutiny, disagreement, and Alexander's love life. I get that they were trying to humanize Alexander, but the decision to portray him as emotional and uncertain undermined the grandeur of the man. Men like Alexander, Caesar, Napoleon, etc. were larger than life. Perhaps a montage of battles and victories would've served the film better than the sex scene with Roxana, Begoas' dance, the Oedipus complex scenes with Olympia, and the like. A huge missed opportunity is the Opis mutiny. Alexander's speech there is one of the greatest speeches in history, a perfect display of his charisma, and yet in the movie, it's just another scene to show how disillusioned his men became. And also, the decision to edit the movie like a Greek tragedy play with the flashback and voiceover and disjointed timeline is a respectable one, but it obviously doesn't translate well onto the big screen.

And yet you're watching and commenting on a documentary on how the movie was made.
@Nemanja Jovanovic It's common sense, basic logic, if I don't like the movie why would I watch a doc 45 mins long about how it was made and loose more time on something I don't like
who would you have cast as Alexander instead? I think Colin had a great presence on the battlefield, its just that oliver stone gave him many weak camp scenes.
Don't agree. Colin was charismatic and handsome like Alexander and he gave a great performance. But the editing is awfull, too much flask back...
King of makedonija
It is ΜΑΚΕΔΟΝΙΑ and derives from the word ΜΑΚΕΔΝΟΣ .But I guess it's all Greek to you wright ?LOL!!!
Καπτεν Χαρλοκ don’t forget half of makedonia belongs to us Albanians .
Greeks occupied modern day asia minor. This territory now belongs to the Turks, that doesnt mean that the history of the Greeks that lived there belongs to the Turks ... The fact that a small territory of the macedonian empire now belongs to someone else means nothing. Its still Greeces history, I am sorry if you are ashamed of your history but sorry my friend , you cant steal from others.
@@ΔημήτρηςΣακκάς-γ5π agree. saying alexander is albanian slav is like saying halicarnassus is turkish city. lol
@@ramizkaraeski7016 wrong! Macedonia conquered parts of Illyria wich Albania is part of. Makedonia was, is and will be forever the plains, hills and mountains north of Thessaly. Mazedonia or North Mazedonia what they call their land now is bullshit. That was land, once under the controll of macedon but that region was home to tribes like the triballi. I'm not greek so I don't have patriotic intentions in writing that. I'm german. And I'm well educated in history and history shows us that macedon was always the northern neighbor of thessaly. They were not all greeks due to being at the edge of the greek lands but their culture and gods as well as their language was greek. I don't think they spoke the same greek as the more southern greeks but it was greek.
This movie is so bad.
It had it's moments.
You are nothing. Your head is empty!
I love it!
