    Ran across the Report Tool Tip capability in the Power Bi Data Analyst Cert training I was doing and thought...what?? You can do that?? Found this video and now I am so excited to use it in my reports. This is a great way to declutter the report page as well so that data can only be visible when needed. Love it, thanks for sharing!

  • @kahhengyeong7947

    Thanks for the trick which I learnt from you guys and have used but just to share one "down side" that I've experienced with this tooltip is that if you left the Power BI on without refreshing the browser for a long time, the info on the main visual may not tally once information in the database changes.
    Example is that the main visual shows the total number of any product type reserved and the tooltip shows the breakdown of customers who reserves the product being hovered on. There were times I realised the number on the main visual is different and after an F5 browser refresh, the number tallies. That is because the main visual does not automatically refresh if user just leave the browser on while the tooltip is always dynamic and gets the latest info from the refreshed database. Hope this makes sense and helps those who uses this trick but found discrepancies in their numbers.

Can you make the tooltip stay in place and use the scroll bar?

    Very well explained (with some charm too!). I have a Tooltip related question which I'm hoping you can answer please. Short version: My tooltip values don't update on interactions. Long version: I have a stacked bar chart where the values displays % and the tooltip contains a number measure. When I click on a segment of the bar chart the percentage of another bar chart will update (great, I want that) however the number measure within the tooltip is not updating with it. I feel like it should just happen and I'm missing something painfully obvious - please help ! Apologies if you've already covered this in a previous video :)

    I have a small Question,
    if we have a drill down enabled on a visual, then can we have different tooltips for different levels. like for example, if there's a barchart for product category, which drills down to product subcategory, then i want to make a tooltip such that if i'm on category's view, I get information about the category. If i drill down to sub category's view the i should get information about the subcategory. I dont mind making seperate tooltips for the category view and the subcategory views, I just want to know if i can apply seperate tooltips for various drill down levels and if it's possible then how to apply??

    Quick question though: Can you customise what the tooltip displays? For example: “15% out of total 120 sales were made by John”

    This is great, but what i am dying to know is: How can i hover over a COLUMN HEADER and show the Description in of the field from the meta data. Or some other longer description.
    ie
    Think baseball....column header (field name) ERA, hover and show Earned Run Average
    OR
    Store EARNED RUN AVERAGE as the field name, somehow have a NAME ALT of field as ERA. Be able to show ERA as column header and Earned Run Average as hover over.
    This is SOOOOOO important to keep good descriptive name conventions AND conserving precious space on the canvas

    • @fraxes1232
      @fraxes1232 4 роки тому +1

      One drawback is that tooltips do not interact or, answering your question, you don’t have the option to scroll down and check all the values from the table that it is being used as the tooltip. Whatever data is displayed on your tooltip tab, that’s the data you will see when you hover over a table, matrix... and the tooltip gets displayed. Hope that answers your question!
