I'm not gona lie...Beserk was the one manga I thought had no shot of winning, im pleasantly surprised! BESERK is one of.. if not the best manga of all time. Very dark and heartwrenching, but one of the most human, real, nuianced manga ever created.
Honestly same, when I saw the top 8, I had in my mind that it would be the first one out. How wrong I was! I surprised myself with that one but hey it was the best first volume I read in the video (in my opinion)
Berserk is super popular for manga fans! I think it’s one of those series that have very few people that dislike it? Anyway, I see it recommended everywhere :)
@@tash2237 Its actually a masterpiece in storytelling and one of the best manga. Some people dislike it because of extreme violence and dark theme which is understandable:)
I’m so happy that you love manga. Seeing book-tubers get into manga is amazing. It brings such a smile to my face. I took a college class on the history of manga and that reignited the flame for me. I’m hoping your journey makes you laugh, cry, and smile. Also a really fun fact is that the author of Sailor Moon and Hunter x Hunter are married. A manga power couple if you will. :D
Ooo I bet that college class was fascinating, I'd love to learn more and the history of manga. And nooo way! Sailor moon and Hunter x Hunter authors are married? That's so cute!
@@GavinReadsItAll look up Osamu Tezuka, basically the grandfather of manga, some of his works include Astro Boy, and Phoenix among many others. He has a contest and prize named after him. It is very prestigious.
@@GavinReadsItAll when you finished OP and when you get into HxH you should read both sailor moon along side of it as a cute way to appreciate both of their married lives
Completely understand how you're feeling about Fullmetal. I also understand why it was highly requested. It's the type of story that builds slowly, but purposefully. When you get to the end and everything comes together, it's incredible. Hope you get to finish it one day!
It sounds like such a doable series to binge since I think there are only 27 volumes? I could be wrong, but it looks like it could be a great one to binge in the future
Sad that you aren’t starting HxH next but it completely makes sense how you wouldn’t want to read it alongside One Piece as they do start off with very similar tones. Berserk is a great choice for all of the reasons you said and it’ll definitely be more dark, especially alongside OP. Hope you continue to enjoy it!
@@Ryuksgelus I meant the manga as well. Chapter 1 for both OP & HxHs manga start out differently than their anime counterparts (2011 version for HxH). But overall they are still tonally similar. The first chapter tells a bit of sad backstory to establish the goals of these young, and overall happy go lucky protagonists boys. They both set off on an adventure to achieve said goal and they gather friends along the way. It’s very easy to draw comparisons even if they are obviously two very different stories, especially as you get further into each series
as a huge berserk fan i adore the deluxe editions. miura's art really is helped by the bigger space. the page quality in the deluxe editions are also a nice touch. only problem is that they are bit pricey, but they are definitely worth it!
Agree. Berserk is my first Manga (still reading) and I'm slowly collecting the DEs. Was introduced to Manga & Berserk via my love for FromSoftware & the influence of Berserk in their video games, especially Dark Souls 💖
I'm just happy that Witch Hat Atelier got so far! Wasn't expecting so many people to vote for it but really, it's such a good series it deserved every single one. Although I am a bit sad you didn't get to meet my favorite character from it haha
Naruto and HxH actually debuted right around the same time. In fact, the author of HxH was a veteran manga author on their third or fourth series and acted as a mentor of sorts to Naruto's author when he was trying to get Naruto serialized. They would often meet up and toss ideas back and fourth when the series were first starting. They even used to toss in little nods to each other sometimes (and there are a couple cases where a plot point between the two are so similar that it's obviously something the two of them brainstormed together). It's funny those two happened to meet up in the first round.
Didn't know that the authors were that close to each other, that's so cool! This has honestly motived me to try HxH now since Naruto was the first manga I got into. And I have heard HxH named dropped a lot over the years but never really knew what it was about.
I actually cheered when Monster got through, haha. I think you picked a great variety of manga in terms of tone, writing and art style, and story. Each will cleanse your palate after the other quite nicely. So excited for you Gavin!
Without a doubt, my two favorite Manga are One Piece and Berserk, so I'm really looking forward to the future of your channel. Also, if you do something like this again, it might be cool if you limit it to only completed manga or maybe even just shorter manga.
Honestly, all of the top 8 are pretty great picks and introductions to manga as well as are many of the 20 that made it to the preliminary round. There are definitely a few of them that I would have given much lower priority over some less popular or diverse top tier manga out there but you won't be going wrong with any of them. Some stuff I just want to add about the top 8 that I hope is helpful context/opinion that hopefully won't affect your expectations now that you have read the first volumes. Monster- My personal favorite of all time. It's a seinen so it is targeted at an older audience so that's probably why it felt so different. You also stopped right before the main plot of the series really kicks off and comes into focus. I really encourage you to read it as soon as possible (though I know you have promised series you need to get through first). Naoki Urasawa is my favorite mangaka of all time and I consider Monster to be one of his three Magnum Opuses (the other two being "20th Century Boys" and "Pluto"), he is a master of manga of many genres but I think he excels best at psychological/suspense thriller. I highly recommend reading more of his work after this as well once you've had a chance to explore other series/authors/genres more. Full Metal Alchemist - Considered one of the best manga series of all time, it definitely deserves the acclaim. It is a slow start but it builds well and is really just excellent. I think reading it after Berserk and after your introduction to manga through One Piece will serve you well, and as a booktuber, I think you will really enjoy the attention to detail for character, theme, and setting. Berserk - One of the all time greats even if you only look at its art style alone. One of the best epic *dark* fantasy stories. Still draws tons of praise despite being ongoing for decades (the author had to take a lot breaks later on). The author died recently but a close friend is helping his assistants continue the series and the fact that people still say to read it despite the story potentially never finishing is really a testament to it's quality. HunterXHunter - Considered one of the greatest shounen manga of all time by one of the best mangaka (his past works like Yu Yu Hakusho are classics too). Still ongoing but had to take many breaks due to the author's health. However, similar to Berserk, it is considered a classic that is so good that it is a must read even if it never finishes. Naruto - One of the all time classic shounen, competed with One Piece and Bleach back in the day. Absolutely worth checking out but I would recommend trying to only read one shounen at a time. Half so that you can have more diversity in your videos and because many tropes are shared, and half so that you get more exposure to other genres and titles without getting bogged down in these long running and (deservedly) popular series. Death Note - The series that really brought "non-battle battle shounen" into the mainstream. It's got flaws but there is a reason it is a classic as the mind games are refreshing and fun. Really helped introduce fans at the time to what shounen can be capable of. SpyXFamily - Rough that it got knocked out in the first round but losing to the overall winner is nothing to be ashamed of. I recommend this being higher on your priority list simply because it would be a good introduction to comedy / slice of life genre for you (though I consider it a masterful blend of many genres). It really is something special and I've never seen a manga quite like it. Witch Hat Atelier - Haven't read so can't comment! (Also Vinland Saga is another greatest of all time manga so I highly recommend it be at the top of the list when you finish the 8 that made it past the preliminary.)
Thanks for your brilliant rundown on the manga series I read in this video! I wish I had more time in a month to get to all of them because they all just sound so fantastic. I agree, I should diversify the manga I read so I'm not bogging myself down with only one type and ignoring the plethora of other genres manga has to offer. Vinland Saga has been recommended to me by Merphy too so I was a little sad to see it low down in the votes, but I genuinely believe I'll get to pretty much the top 20 at some point. Thanks for watching!
I'm sad Black Clover, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Bleach didn't make top 8😩...but I am SO EXCITED BERSERK WON!!! I started reading Berserk earlier this year but never finished, so you starting the series will give me motivation to finish😁
Berserk is one of the best stories ever written, so I am so glad it won. I've been meaning to re-read it so now that you're gonna be reading it I have a great reason to actually do that!
I'm a big fan of FMA. It's a story that starts slow yes, but it all comes together greatly. If you want a good opinion on FMA ask Merphy, she just finished it.
I can't wait to read FMA so I can watch all of Merphy's videos on it. I'm doing the same with One Piece, waiting til I'm caught up so I can binge her videos on One Piece 😂 I've watched the videos for the arcs I've read
I really, really am, and I had to control myself from other boxsets or I would have a collection of 500 right now, but fortunately I still have some self control 😂emphasis on some
Great video as always, Gavin. This made my day. I hope you someday give a chance to Monster, it's a really special series and Naoki Urasawa is one of the greatest mangakas alive. I'm happy it lost to other great series though for Monster is quite a slow burner.
FMA takes a while but it gets soooo good!!! It took me 3 starts do finally do it 😅 So much effort in this video! I love it! It's so much fun seeing you talk about Manga :)
I didnt realise this myself until just now but a really fun thing to think about is that Beserk and Witch Hat Atelier are actually in magazines for the same demographic 🤣. Both are seinen so targeted at adult men, yet they're so different. That's such a fun thing about manga is that even within the demographics you can find such variety through different magazines.
@How to Train Your Gavin I was about to say it'll probably remain adorable as moe is popular with guys and then I did some reading and it apparently can get pretty dark. No spoilers, obviously, but I guess there might be a tone shift at some point. That's fun! But yeah funding out demographics and comparing the types of series under the labels is very fun.
I knew instantly that you would fall in love with Berserk and Monster, because you said so many times you like horror and scarier stories. And you also had a great Gut(s) instinct with HunterxHunter, because it gets so, so, so much darker later on, much more than One Piece.
I didn't realise how much of a manga baby you were Gavin, I'm loving that you discovered One Piece so early in your manga journey 😀This is honestly a great idea to dive into the medium and might work out well as a series (if you do decide to make an episode on cozy manga, I must share and proclaim my love of Aria and its 'Aria the Masterpiece' collection).
oh wow I loved the format of this video, I had a sense of dread that it was just going to be polling the audience and having the same old same old 'WATCH EVERY MASSIVELY POPULAR SHONEN' but having you personally choose between them tournament style and having back to back choosing a 'less popular' option over another solved that immediately. There's such a niche to carve out for yourself, much like the reason I found your channel (Legally Blonde? Sabrina the Teenage Witch books?!!?) another booktuber talking about how Naruto/One Piece/Punpun/My Hero? I snooze, gay 90s kid covering unsung heroes like Sailor Moon and Atelier? Sign me up! can't wait for you to get around to them. Berserk is great and I think maybe the best alongside Monster to pair with One Piece, doubling up on the same genre at the same time can feel way way way too samey, love the character work in Berserk,
Thanks so much for watching and the awesome comment! Haha I'm glad I ended up picking differently to what's just popular right now, I have no idea what people find popular in manga to be honest so it really was just gut instinct
I'm so glad youre finally trying Witch Hat Atelier! Ever since you started trying manga I knew it would be your vibe. And it's such an interesting magic system and world, I'm a few volumes in and I really love it
Spy x Family losing in the first round has me clutching my pearls! Lol I haven't tried Berserk because of the trigger warnings but it's my husband's absolute favorite so I'm sure it's really good too.
@@GavinReadsItAll Well you'll still probably read it sometime so I'm satisfied. I'm so curious as to how you're going to feel about Berserk, can't wait to see your thoughts!
I need to vote again for Fruits Basket, The Ancient Magnus Bride, Saiunkoku Monogatari, Erased, and Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. But I'm so excited to see your reviews for the top 8! I'm a huge fan of Monster, Death Note, and Spy X Family as well as Fullmetal Alchemist! I've been meaning to get to Witch Hat Atelier!
I managed to get the first volume of Fruits Basket in store when they constantly didn't have any, I'm excited, and thanks for the other recommendations!
I am so happy about your manga journey! I have decided 2023 is going to me diving deeper into Japanese lit and manga. I spent a decade of my life super immersed in anime and manga in my teens/20s and I started dipping a toe back in 2 years ago. Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, and Death Note were series I was there for when they started but I never finished them. I am nearly half way into One Piece now and I am ready for more!
Omg I LOVE that you’re reading more manga and choosing which ones to read next in a tournament style bracket like this is so fun and has made this so suspenseful haha I love it 😂😍 I’m so excited to hear all your thoughts on Berserk, I’ve been eyeing that series for a while haha
I'm sorry for not commenting on your videos earlier, I intended to but it slipped my mind. I've been watching your video's for a while now, since you started your One Piece journey, as I'm a massive fan of One Piece and related youtube content, I've been reading the manga since I was 8! I wanted to say I'm really enjoying your videos and looking forwards to your future reviews of One Piece and other manga! I wanted to mention a suggestion for a manga for you to read. It's called "Bakuman". It's a manga created by a writer and artist duo, most famous for their earlier work "Death Note". While "Death Note" is another highly recommended manga, "Bakuman" isn't mentioned often and is an overlooked gem. It's a manga based around an author and artist duo who collaborate to make manga for Shonen Jump, it's also a love story between the artist and his crush, it's a great sappy romance while also being an amazing insight into the Japanese manga making industry, a lot of the characters are designed based on real editors and such from Shonen Jump, and some of the mangakas are inspired by real mangakas, the best and most pertinent example being Niizuma Eiji, who is based loosely on Eiichiro Oda, the author of "One Piece". It's between 100-200 chapters, which by Manga standards is not very long and may imply that it was cancelled but that is not the case and it was ended due to the authors bringing it to it's real conclusion. If you have an interest in the manga industry and how it is made, I cannot recommend it enough, and I'd be really glad to hear your reaction to the story! Thank you for making this content, it's really enjoyable. Tl:Dr Read Bakuman, it's good!
Oh that's awesome, thank you so much for that recommendation! And thank you so much for watching my videos. I love that you have been reading One Piece since you were 8!! Wow, I wish I'd had it in my childhood honestly, I feel like I've missed out being on this journey for as long as you have. Appreciate you being here and thanks again for your comment 😊
Really good list to get started! I love seeing a lot of older series like Monster and Berserk. I hope later you can do more Shojo! Sailor Moon was the only one on the list and I would love to see you check out some more of it.
Absolutely, I would love more Shojo recommendations and I've already started collecting some. I'll admit, I took a list to my local Forbidden Planet and they barely had any Shojo. I don't have the biggest Forbidden Planet but the Shojo was few and far between
@@GavinReadsItAll Yeah, unfortunately shojo is not as popular so it’s harder to find. Colleen’s Manga Recs is a really good channel for recommendations for shojo though if you’d ever want to check her out!
I’m so happy you enjoyed all the mangas and so excited for more manga videos. :) I was rooting for Monster, but I think you will enjoy Berserk from what I heard about it. Now I want to make manga content.
4 of the top 8 manga I also haven't read yet.🎉 It's going to be so fun to see wich ones we like the most. I'll pauze the video for now and read and reread them first to see wich 2 I'll end up with. After that I'll compare my choises with yours. 😁 It was also so exciting to see the poll results, like it was some kind of awards or something 😂
THE EXCITEMENT WHEN I SAW THE QUALITY Monster, Witch Hat Atelier and Beserk in the qualifiers is amazing! Commenting before watching the video but hopeful that you'll enjoy every series and whatever doesn't win you do continue to read and do deep dives
Cool video if it were up to me I would probably say round one first volume round two from the second volume and then final from the 3rd or even 4th if you wanted to go a little bit deeper. I think maybe of the hook was too big on the end of the first volume you might be more tempted but it probably wouldn't be able to do that trick twice. I dunno if that sentence made sense.
I get what you mean, and I may do the second volume thing in the next tournament. Could be pricey and hopefully the second volumes are easily available, but it would be a good investment too
I love how you do one piece by sagas I’m interested to see how you do it once you get caught up Something to keep in mind for starting new series to do on your channel when putting them against each other is length, if it’s ongoing, and availably should be taken into account
Hi Gavin, I’ve found you during a very dark time in my life, it’s hard for me to watch a lot of other UA-camrs these days but I happened to stumble upon you and ever since your videos just give me happiness. So glad you’re starting to read more manga which has also been a comfort for me. Thank you for being a little light in the darkness ❤
Hi Kaylee!! I’m so sorry to hear you’ve had some dark times recently and I hope you’re okay now! Or at least I hope things are getting better. I’m glad I can be a positive for you right now and I will strive to continue to be so for you in the future. Take care of yourself and thank you for being here ❤️
Gavin I mean this wholeheartedly: your channel has kept me company through a pretty strange and difficult time in my life. The community you have built is extremely cozy and heartwarming but without the usual fluff of content creation. It feels real, because you are! I found out about you just after I caught up with One Piece and you were just beginning your journey. So discovering you was timed perfectly. Your videos have become part of my routine. And I'm always glad to see people getting into manga since it reminds me of my childhood and the excitement of a new adventure! It's really pure and I appreciate it. That's all, hope you have a wonderful day (and soon Christmas). All the love from Greece!
Ahh Wavetech thank you so much and I appreciate you being here. I'm sorry to hear you've been going through a difficult time, I hope things are better now, but I'm happy to have been a comfort to you in some way and I hope I can continue to be so when you need me to be.
It's funny to see Hunter x Hunter versus Berserk in your finals because I think a lot of people have those two in particular as their favorites of all time, and often times when ranking manga against one another, those two do end up near the top. I'm a huge HxH fan (it's my favorite story along with One Piece) but Berserk's greatness can't be denied.
This was so fun and exciting to watch. You're going to end up surrounded with series, there's something so relaxing and enchanting about reading manga. Fullmetal is one of my favorites (I think it's the best series ever written) but I'll look forward to seeing however your manga reading branches out. There are so many choices and it's neat seeing how different one person's favorites can be. In the deluxe vs. standard on FMA, the Fullmetal Editions are beautiful both to read and admire on the shelf - the foiled titles on the spines really shine. I have three editions of FMA volume one (standard, 3-in-1, Fullmetal) because I couldn't commit to buying the full series until the deluxe editions seduced me. IMO it's a little less comfortable/casual to be reading hardcover manga if you're used to flying through paperback volumes but on the other hand the artwork and lettering will never look better than it does in the deluxe.
I really liked the concept. I would like you to read one more volume for every level in the tournament. Just because it would be interesting to see if maybe that would change things. Maybe one Manga has a slower start, but gets better in the following voulumes. While the other might have a better hook in the first voulume, but isn't as interesting later on. ^^ And you would get more hooked on all the manga, so the dession might get even harder, which is good content. ;)
Haha that's true, maybe in the next version of the tournament I do, I read the first 2 volumes of each (if the volumes are easy to get hold of, of course). I'm a physical reader so I would need to invest a bit to double the books from 8 to 16.
@@GavinReadsItAll true, that would make it a lot more work. I mean if you go for a theme next time you could go with 4 manga series then it would be the same amount.
I love graphic novels, but haven't read any manga yet. I find this all interesting, but cozy manga is what I feel drawn to as a sensitive reader. I think Spy Family and Witch Hat sound really good, and would love to know about other cozies. Thanks Gavin!
This was really fun and I'm so happy to see you branching out to new series! I'm so happy Berserk won. It's a pretty brutal story, but its amazingly well told. I would definitely recommend the deluxe editions! Its pretty easy to find them second hand, and it worth it to see the art in much more detail. I hope you enjoy it!
I loved this video so much! So happy you’re going to start your Berserk journey at the same time i’m reading it, now I can follow along with your videos! 🤩
insanely excited for berserk to come along, while i was heavily wishing for monster bc its fantastic, Beserk is equally great from what i’ve heard (i’m only up to Golden Age, a long while to go Now I atleast have a big reason to jumpstart reading it 😭) something i found a tad interesting is your final 2 were both known for their notorious hiatus’s (Both due to the authors health issues, as well as you may not have known at time of recording, Miura passed away) Minor Edit: Be careful with beserk TW’s for just everything that might bother you, Also so close to tokyo ghoul, just finished it last month, fantastic read the art is amazing as well
I didn't know about Miura passing away until someone mentioned it in the comments earlier, how sad! Hopefully by the time I catch up with the series, more new chapters will be out for HxH and Berserk and they're quite regular so I can continue reviewing and reading them
Amazing video. Love the idea of a manga tournament. All the series on the list are good. As a Monster fan, I am glad that it went this far. I believe that you won’t be disappointed with any series you start. Beserk is also a classic and it’s the opposite of one piece so it goes well.
I leapt straight into the deluxe editions of Beserk and didn’t regret it one bit. Unfortunately, the original author passed away but they are still continuing with the series. Thanks for the brief explanation on Monster. Definitely wanna pick that one up soon. One of my favourite series has got to be Black Lagoon, a manga about a group of mercenaries on a PT Boat.
This was so fun to watch! I can't to follow your manga journey. I'm glad that you enjoyed all eight volumes that you read, even when they were so different. I've never read Berserk, maybe I'll read along with you when you do your in depth reviews.
While HxH is probably the better series, i do think Naruto would be the more satisfying binge because it is a full and complete series. If you pick up HxH and read it, you will be waiting for a LONG while for an ending like the rest of us, not that that's a bad thing!!
This was such a great video! I want to have my own book tournament when I’m having a add time deciding what to read next! Please keep the tournaments coming 🤩
Thank-you for another amazing video!!! In terms of the calibre of the bracket, no matter the champion, you would be in for a treat. It brings me so much joy watching your journey into the realm of manga, truly warms the heart... (Binging Spy X Spy atm) When you do continue the Fullmetal Alchemist series, I do suggest getting the Fullmetal Editions, higher paper quality, better translation and colour artwork, I promise the pay off is worth it (it is a slow start though) and the anime (s) (both for different reasons) are top tier. Looking forward to 2023 and where your manga journey takes you :)
I have heard that the breserk deluxe edition are 100% worth it. I will hopefully also start readin breserk just after christmas so, it's cool to see some one elses journey with a series as I start mine.
I've loved watching you on your manga journey Gavin! If you do another one of these types of videos for manga It'd be nice to see some shojo/josei manga as this list was pretty dominated by shonen/seinen. Which I totally understand it's what's popular and I'm a shonen/seinen girly myself haha! Also definitely wasn't expecting witch hat to make it so far but I'm so glad it did! ❤
One of the biggest problems with medium to long stories I have always seen is ending is not up to par or good. Examples are game of thrones, Lost, in the manga, Naruto, bleach, etc even Demon slayer and Attack on titan fans are not happy with endings But that's where FullMetal Alchemist shines and go way ahead of all the competition. FMA and Breaking bad are the only long stories I know ended with perfect endings that's why FMA is one of the highest-regarded series.
I don't wanna butt in here and I more or less agree with everything you named, but I can't let you put Lost right next to Game of Thrones. Yes there were a lot of people who weren't happy with the Lost ending, but I'd say it's a very very loud minority of people who actually didn't like it, a bigger amount of people just totally misunderstood the ending or were just too consumed by the hype and they would've never been pleased. There are actually quite a lot people who love the ending, but since the hate was so loud, it spread so far that nowadays everyone says the ending is bad, because they heard it from others without even having seen the show themselves. Sorry for the monologue. just wanted to throw in my 2 cents
Buzzing you, Katie Colson, and other booktubers are getting into manga this year, because so am I! Read a lot this year and my favourites have been Spy Family, Death Note, and Promised Neverland 😊
I was so shook with every round with your decisions!! Definitely guessed completely wrong lmao, but I'm so glad you enjoyed everything and I can't wait for more manga content 😊!!!
As soon as I did the first round, I knew it wouldn't go to plan myself haha I had a set idea of which would win each round just judged on premise / vibe alone, but then reading them actually changed my mind each time and I was a little shocked myself haha
This was fun! I was sad that FMA didn’t win, but am glad that you plan to go back to it. When you pronounced Alphonse’s name, I had a good chuckle, I’m sure other people have corrected already, but there is no “eh” sound, the e is silent. Think Alphonse Mucha, the art nouveau artist. I don’t know any other famous Alphonse’s off the top of my head. Love your idea at the end of doing a bracket for different genres. I’d love to see you read Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon and Fruitsbasket one day!
Ahh thanks for the pronunciation correction haha I probably sounded so silly saying it haha. I do it in my One Piece videos all the time and I always appreciate the corrections or I would continue getting it wrong 😂
Loved it! I hope you get around to Spy Family because for me it's not only a palette cleanser, but something I can read in an hour or a day depending on if I get interrupted. You definitely need to look into Promised Neverland, which I am still working on reading and accumulating. There are 20 volumes and one new one which came out this year and is the final one. I have also heard good things about Blood on the Tracks, I don't have it, but I know Katie Colson highly recommended it, so I am waiting for Christmas money or gift cards to go a little bananas with and get the first volume of it. Enjoy all the manga, I have recently gotten into manga myself late last year and have enjoyed it. 😊💕💕💕
I must say I'm also genuinly surprised and excited by your choice! I did vote for berserk, but didn't think he would win. Also i gotta talk about the great manga reviewer Definitely Not Mark who recently did a video with his manga collection and said at the end that if he had to recommend some mangas those would be.... One Piece & Berserk! And now you're reading both at the same time! Exciting! Definitely gonna follow your journey, through pain and joy, horrors and gore within this epic masterpiece that is Berserk.
Oh I'll have to check Mark out! Sounds like a channel I could end up binge watching once I've caught up with each series to avoid spoilers, but I'm happy to sub to him in the meantime 😊
Im at min 7:57 and was about to scream because FMA had not been mentioned yet. Though One Piece is my favorite manga I consider FMA to be the best overall Manga and anime out there. I was gonna be hella confused if it did make that top.
I started Berserk Delux edition today and I will say I have to keep turning pages. Hard to put it down. I'd suggest the delux editions because if you're going to read them, the large pages make the art so much better. Can't wait to continue the series!
This was a fun sampler platter of manga. A wide range of styles and genre. Lot of these are slow burns, so for sure read more for the ones that piqued your interest later! Enjoy Berserk, I'm interested in what you'll think for sure.
This is such a fun way to handle it! (I ended up writing this bit by bit as I watched the video so it's turned out a bit long! Sorry about that!) I'm honestly amazed that every manga I voted for made it into the top 8 and I think all of the top 8 are worth a read at least. I thought for sure the more popular manga would be right at the top. You've really cultivated an audience with taste! Monster, Berserk, and Hunter X Hunter are all very different but masterful, I'd put Full Metal Alchemist a tier lower but I still love it. One thing I have to point out about Berserk is that the artstyle is very anatomically restrained, much more akin to traditional realism, you don't see the exaggerated expressions and bodies common in manga, when proportions are wrong it's done to enhance horror rather than comedy... except for Puck, the Fairy who's allowed to be a cartoon. XD I expected the grim darkness of the story before I read it, but I wasn't expecting to see it contrasted with sparks of hope and optimism that ultimately make it so worthwhile. I did the single volumes for the first three but the deluxe editions for the next six, they are fairly economical since you're getting three volumes in each one, plus they are a joy to hold and to read through. The pages feel massive by comparison and the two page spreads look so good and texture of the binding feels just right for the more complex and adult tone it has. Well I think you've convinced me to read Witch Hat Atelier! The art alone looks beautiful reminds me a bit of the 'Ascendance of a Bookworm' covers, detailed but very warm. Hunter X Hunter is definitely better but Naruto is special to me! It got me into anime back in 2005 or so and into manga when I caught up with the anime. Plus it was my first exposure to magic systems, prior to it I had only seen extremely soft magic systems like Harry Potter but Naruto was the first to have a pretense of rules and we do get in depth explanations of some of the techniques. Shakugan no Shana ultimately had a better magic system and became my favorite(Anime and light novel, the manga is an adaptation of the novels and kinda terrible.) and after that I discovered Brandon Sanderson and the Cosmere, but I do owe a lot to Naruto for setting me on the path that led to me reading One Piece. The nature of Hunter X Hunter to me is summed up in Gon's motivation. He wants to be a hunter because his dad chose being a hunter over being his father therefore being a hunter must be amazing! and no one says anything but the adults in the room all have a micro-expression of pain for him. I have a figure of Leorio because I love him so much and the character development is so good. I love when characters can almost swap roles and it be completely believable progress.(Another shout out to Shakuga no Shana. XD) You may have heard of this mangaka's older series as well Yu Yu Hakusho, he's a veteran and he really shows it in his story telling. Death Note definitely deserves it's place in culture for its premise alone but among my friends we do use "The Death Note Effect" to describe the particular issues that come up when an author tries to write a character many times smarter than they are. You've actually read enough Death Note to watch the SImpsons parody which is amazing. Monster is an all time favorite but It's been nearly 15 years since I first saw it. It needs a re-read urgently! I've watched a handful of anime with my mom over the years and Monster and Dr. Stone were by far her favorites. In the first round you really zeroed in on the best writers for the most part which is impressive to me since I thought some of the competition had better hooks. I'm just now realizing all three of my picks made it to the semi-finals! Well now it's time for pain seeing which of them makes it! Oooh! What a good choice! I agree, Hunter X Hunter will become one of your all time favorites, based on your impressions of One Piece I have no doubt, but for a series to run alongside One Piece, Berserk is just such a great pick because they are so different! Plus I've not seen nearly so much analysis of Berserk and I feel there's a lot of meat there.
Ahh thanks so much for watching and leaving your comments, I had fun reading them and seeing your thought process on each series. Definitely check out Witch Hat, I heard it gets darker as it goes on but the art style keeps the same beautiful style so I imagine the tone will be interesting. And your journey with Naruto is also great to read about and that it has a special place in your heart. I'm sure I'm gonna enjoy it!
I genuinely didn’t think Berserk would win! but it’s going to be so interesting to watch your journey with it, esp alongside one piece. Berserk is too dark for me so it’s not my cup of tea, but I love watching review videos for the series bc the themes and story are so interesting (I’m just too much of a chicken to read it myself lol). It’s also so fascinating to see how Berserk has influenced different fantasy stories, I.e. the dark souls games are heavily influenced by it, etc. looking forward to your next manga journey! This was super fun to watch and I look forward to whenever you pick up the rest too! On another note, spy x family definitely is wholesome and adorable and all around good vibes 😍 literally the story that’s helping me deal with seasonal depression rn lol 😂
AHH THIS VIDEO WAS SUCH A FUN WATCH!!! So many great series!!! I’m excited for you to get around to reading HxH and FMA, they’re some of my favorites. Have you considered checking out some one shots or short stories? There’s quite a few good ones!! I just recently read Look Back by Tatsuki Fujimoto,, who also wrote chainsaw man!! I’m sure your plate is overflowing with things to read, so a short story is a nice palette cleanser I think:)
Speaking of short stories,, you mentioned maybe doing a horror manga video. I can’t recommend Junji Ito enough!! I’m sure you’ve heard his name floating around,, his work is very popular,, and for good reason!! Absolutely beautiful and haunting artwork!!
Gavin! I know you are already flooded with recommendations but there is one I think you'd love based on your tastes that I haven't seen anyone mention yet. It's called "Golden Kamuy", and it is a story about a horde of gold stolen from the indigenous Ainu people of Northern Japan, and how an Ainu girl and an ex-soldier team up to try and find it. For me, it is the only series other than One Piece that strikes the perfect balance of adventure, intrigue, humor, and brilliant character writing. Oh, and it has a hefty serving of homoeroticism thrown in to the mix. I really really think you'd love it, so please include it in a future bracket! Much love
Sad Naruto didn't make it, was such a massive part of my teenage years 😓 Also, if you ever do get to it (which I fully recommend) Sasuke (Sos-kay) Sakura (Sack-oo-rah) (like the blossom) (Sorry, couldn't help myself 😅)
really enjoyed the video ^.^ didn't expect the winner, at least not pre you reviewing the first volume, after that I wasn't really surprised anymore xD I think I could join reading that one as well, I have the first 36 volumes in my shelf and I've only read the first few like 10+ years ago and forgotten everything again... though even if you post vid 1 in january I will probably only join in February
Spy x Family vs Berserk, lol what a tonal clash. Both are good! But very, very different. FMA is short (compared to a lot of Manga series), it's completed, and it's very tightly written. It also has a slow start. A shame to see it lose, but understandable
Love that Fullmetal has a true and complete story arc, I really do believe I'll get to it soon. Debating whether I continue getting the singles or invest in the Fullmetal editions.
Pronunciation Guide: Alphonse: Al-fon-z Sakura: Sah-ker-ah Sasuke: Sah-s-kay Pretty sure those were the only ones I noticed and this is only based on the anime so it could still be wrong. Also, if you look into the backstory of Berserk, I think you'll love it even more.
Second comment to help the algorithm- I'd love to see you do a manhwa tournament (korean manga) since a lot of the art is insanely good. Also, Solo Leveling and Tower of God are just to die for
Oooo I haven't heard of manhwa, but thanks for the heads up on that, and the recommendations, I see Solo Leveling in my local Forbidden Planet all the time!
@@GavinReadsItAll seriously. Solo Leveling is top tier. If you liked berserk and h x h, I think you’ll like it’s more seinen style (seinen is older than shounen so more mature themes and graphic). It’s just so much fun and I guarantee you’ll binge it.
I started reading manga this year with Death Note and I love Death Note. I'd love to try more manga series next year! On my list next is Fruits Basket.
Great video! I loved the anime of Berserk. Phenomenal story that truly broke me. Not sure my heart could handle a rewatch. I’m going to read Witch Hat Atelier as my next manga
love hearing that you were so excited and curious about bleach(even tho sadly it ended up so low in the poll what were the voters up to i feel betrayed by them) because its my all time favourite manga and, even tho im probably biased, one of the best shounen mangas out there, the characters and the way they're written an developed, and all the foreshadowing and things built up from the beginning that ends up coming full circle etc. its just so excellent, and the fights are amazing and bleach definitely has one of the best villains in the manga world. really looking forward to the day where you eventually end up picking it up, i really hope you'll do a reading series for bleach like you're doing with one piece because i would truly watch the heck out of that, im so curious about how you'd enjoy it!
I'm so happy to hear such a positive review of Bleach, it really does look amazing and it's caught my eye for a while now so I made the leap in getting the boxset, even though it did come low on the poll. However, I'm desperate to read it and I think an in-depth Bleach series is what the series deserves when I finally get to it 😊
@@GavinReadsItAll that was definitely a good leap, you wont regret it when you finally get to it. the box set was a good investment! :) and im so glad to hear that omg cant wait for your bleach era!!
I believe SpyxFamily is an anime on Netflix too, Gavin. And now you've got me wanting to both read and watch it. Btw, if you'd ever be interested in reading what I call "slice-of-life" Manga, I think you should try Komi Can't Communicate. Soooooo funny, so adorable
When you release your Skypiea arc review. Be ready for all the comments telling you to watch the G-8 filler arc that comes right after 😂! It's the fans favorite so everyone will be recommending it to you.
Haha thanks for the heads up, I will mention at the very start of the video that I'm going to watch it before moving on to the next arc so I get ahead of the comments haha
That manga tournament is such a fun idea! I love love that you are getting into manga and that One Piece sparked a new obsession. Mine started the same way. 😂 I never read Berserk because it is SO intimidating, but I am really debating Reading it alongside you. Immensely looking forward to your manga journey! 😊
You picked a great selection of manga, can't really go wrong with any of them. Berserk is an absolutely fantastic manga that has had an absolutely *massive* influence on not just the manga industry but Japanese popular culture in general. (One of it's biggest fans is Hidetaka Miyazaki of Dark Souls fame). I hope you really appreciate Kentaro's incredible composition and attention to detail. He is an absolutely fantastic artist by all measures and his presence is already sorely missed. RIP
@@GavinReadsItAll With a careful eye I'm sure while watching it you'll definitely pick up on a lot of the things referenced in the souls games from it then! You'll be surprised at how many armor or boss/enemy designs they just straight up reference directly. I'm sure you'll love it.
My copies of FMA are the 3in1 paperbacks and I would highly recommend them. They are very floppy so it's never a struggle to see the full panels. I haven't tried the single volume hardcovers that were recently released so I can't compare those in any way except in relation to cost - one of the hardcovers costs the same as a 3in1 volume in my country. That pretty much decided for me XD
HxH is one of the most meticulousy written manga out there, the attention to detail, the character writing, the world building are all insane Fma is definitely the most subtle in it's writing in a way that you'll get to the end only to look back and realize all the inceerdible growth these characters have gone through Naruto I just love, it's what got me into anime/manga and has some of the best character writing in shonen. It's a very Japanese folklore inspired story as well Berserk Idk what can be said it's just the best manga of all time (after one piece). May Miura rest in peace
BERSERK!!!!💖 My first Manga (still reading) and I am so happy Guts & co. are here 🙂 I'm collecting the Deluxe editions slowly, and they are expensive (especially here in NZ) but SO worth it for the art alone...just stunning. They are heavy to hold whilst reading (though not as heavy & awkward as The Walking Dead Compendiums), so I want to invest in a Book-Rest for the books to sit on so I can be comfy as I read haha XD Enjoy, Gavin, and be prepared for rage, bittersweet moments, tears and lots of laughs!
Oh the Walking Dead compendiums ended up really hurting my hands and wrists when reading, so it's good to know the Berserk editions are not as bad. And I am so not prepared for the Berserk journey 😂
What ia the best manga of ALL time? One piece, Berserk and kingdom is far aHead of any other manga faaar
@@arthurgoes4159 Monster too
Berserk is super popular for manga fans!
At no point did I guess what you would pick. You surprised me at each turn
@@GavinReadsItAll Its definitely on the shorter end compared to One Piece 😅 I think binging it is the way to go
Sad that you aren’t starting HxH next but it completely makes sense how you wouldn’t want to read it alongside One Piece as they do start off with very similar tones. Berserk is a great choice for all of the reasons you said and it’ll definitely be more dark, especially alongside OP. Hope you continue to enjoy it!
I just know I'll love Hunter x Hunter, and at least I have time to collect the volumes now by the time I catch up with One Piece
You talking about the HxH 2011 anime because tonally HxH is what it is far earlier in the manga. Anime was censored for the first 42 episodes.
My bank account is already screaming at me 😂 but I think I'm gonna get them 👀
100% Miura is a once in a lifetime talent. The deluxe editions are a must to see his insanely detailed artwork, and it gets better with each volume.
Oooo that just intrigues me even more to continue Laura so thanks for hyping up the series for me, I'm excited 😊
@@GavinReadsItAll glad to be a hypeman for the series 😄 really hope you have a great time with it and all the other series you chose!
Ahh that's so interesting! And what a coincidence that I'd end up pitting those two together. I love that they'd meet up!
Oh I had no idea.
Thanks so much, and I'm so lucky the top 8 turned out to be so different and so good!
We appreciate your effort and hard work. May God bless you, Gavin.
Thank you Sophia ❤
Yes, yes, and more yes!! We so appreciate it and we just want you to feel safe and happy at home. God is blessing you and I pray He continues! 🤗🤗
Without a doubt, my two favorite Manga are One Piece and Berserk, so I'm really looking forward to the future of your channel.
Also, if you do something like this again, it might be cool if you limit it to only completed manga or maybe even just shorter manga.
Could do! So many more ideas for this format in the future, thanks for the suggestion
The intro alone, was amazing! Your effort and work into the channel is so amazing and wonderful!
Ahh thanks so much 🥰
Honestly, all of the top 8 are pretty great picks and introductions to manga as well as are many of the 20 that made it to the preliminary round.
Yay I'll be super happy to help motivate you to finish it, I'm sure it's going to be quite a ride!
This was genius!!! You're making me want to get into Manga too!
Ahh music to my ears 🥰 thank you so much ❤️
Berserk is one of the best stories ever written, so I am so glad it won. I've been meaning to re-read it so now that you're gonna be reading it I have a great reason to actually do that!
Awesome, I'd love it if you read along, and anyone else who needs to read or re-read the series
Dude you crack me up man. When you lifted that Bleach box set up I laughed out loud. You really are an all or nothing kinda person, aren't ya?
I really, really am, and I had to control myself from other boxsets or I would have a collection of 500 right now, but fortunately I still have some self control 😂emphasis on some
Great video as always, Gavin.
This made my day.
I hope you someday give a chance to Monster, it's a really special series and Naoki Urasawa is one of the greatest mangakas alive.
I'm happy it lost to other great series though for Monster is quite a slow burner.
Cannot wait to read the full story of Monster, I just know it will blow me away and the pay-off will be incredible
FMA takes a while but it gets soooo good!!! It took me 3 starts do finally do it 😅
So much effort in this video! I love it! It's so much fun seeing you talk about Manga :)
Thanks so much! And oooo I'm sure I will end up loving FMA, the whole premise sounds great
I didnt realise this myself until just now but a really fun thing to think about is that Beserk and Witch Hat Atelier are actually in magazines for the same demographic 🤣. Both are seinen so targeted at adult men, yet they're so different. That's such a fun thing about manga is that even within the demographics you can find such variety through different magazines.
Oh wow really? I need to read more Witch Hat to see that I think haha it seemed so adorable from the first volume 😂
Oh yeah, I'm still the smallest manga baby 😂and thanks so much for that recommendation, I'm making a note of it 👀
2 of my favorite manga are going in the first round 🤣
one thing that I would say about Berserk is that it's not just a manga, it's an artbook
I can totally believe that
oh wow I loved the format of this video, I had a sense of dread that it was just going to be polling the audience and having the same old same old 'WATCH EVERY MASSIVELY POPULAR SHONEN' but having you personally choose between them tournament style and having back to back choosing a 'less popular' option over another solved that immediately.
And it's such an interesting magic system and world, I'm a few volumes in and I really love it
I have collected the first 3 volumes and I'm very excited to read more, I'm so glad you're loving it!
Woohoo Berserk, such a classic!!! So sad that the only shoujosei manga did not make it to the top 8 though
Spy x Family losing in the first round has me clutching my pearls! Lol I haven't tried Berserk because of the trigger warnings but it's my husband's absolute favorite so I'm sure it's really good too.
Honestly Spy x Family is my biggest regret! I miss the characters already 😭but damn Berserk really intrigues me to no end, it was the toughest round!
I’d LOVE to see you so this, just saying 👀

DO IT!!
@@GavinReadsItAll OK! I will! ❤️
Also love the idea that you made the straw hat choose❤️
Ahh love the idea of you also doing this at home and seeing if you end up choosing the same manga or not, love that!
I want to do deep dives on everything I read in this video to be honest haha they all piqued my interest
Could be pricey and hopefully the second volumes are easily available, but it would be a good investment too
Your style of videos are the most refreshing and creative review videos I've seen on UA-cam. Greatly executed.
I love how you do one piece by sagas I’m interested to see how you do it once you get caught up
Something to keep in mind for starting new series to do on your channel when putting them against each other is length, if it’s ongoing, and availably should be taken into account
This is true, especially the availability part as some can be so hard to get hold of, and I used to work in a bookstore so I know all too well haha
Hi Gavin,
I’ve found you during a very dark time in my life, it’s hard for me to watch a lot of other UA-camrs these days but I happened to stumble upon you and ever since your videos just give me happiness.
Take care of yourself and thank you for being here ❤️
You are a bad influence 😂 I just got my Christmas bonus and it’s already spent on manga and a cube shelf!
Haha yeeeessss Kassie I approve!! 😂
I am HERE for manga tournaments based on genres & demographics because it will open up your manga journey even more!
And you would get more hooked on all the manga, so the dession might get even harder, which is good content.
I think you'd love manga if you love graphic novels!
Check out Maison Ikkoku, it's a romantic comedy by Rumiko Takahashi about a young widow and a college student falling in love.
Mushishi is the definition of a "cozy series" definitely check it out. It's about a researcher of mystical organisms and is just vibes
Deluxe editions it is, thanks!
I loved this video so much! So happy you’re going to start your Berserk journey at the same time i’m reading it, now I can follow along with your videos! 🤩
insanely excited for berserk to come along, while i was heavily wishing for monster bc its fantastic, Beserk is equally great from what i’ve heard (i’m only up to Golden Age, a long while to go Now I atleast have a big reason to jumpstart reading it 😭)
something i found a tad interesting is your final 2 were both known for their notorious hiatus’s (Both due to the authors health issues, as well as you may not have known at time of recording, Miura passed away)
Minor Edit: Be careful with beserk TW’s for just everything that might bother you, Also so close to tokyo ghoul, just finished it last month, fantastic read the art is amazing as well
I didn't know about Miura passing away until someone mentioned it in the comments earlier, how sad!
I am in love with this video! I cannot wait for more!
Loved it! But would say would be fun to see you read Vol 2 in the next round for the winners then Vol 3 for finalists 🤩
While HxH is probably the better series, i do think Naruto would be the more satisfying binge because it is a full and complete series. If you pick up HxH and read it, you will be waiting for a LONG while for an ending like the rest of us, not that that's a bad thing!!
It's the same with One Piece, the series I'm currently reading, that's going to be a loooonnnggg time before that ends haha
This was such a great video! I want to have my own book tournament when I’m having a add time deciding what to read next! Please keep the tournaments coming 🤩
Would love for you to try your own manga tournament, I think that would be so much fun!
Thank-you for another amazing video!!! In terms of the calibre of the bracket, no matter the champion, you would be in for a treat. It brings me so much joy watching your journey into the realm of manga, truly warms the heart... (Binging Spy X Spy atm)
When you do continue the Fullmetal Alchemist series, I do suggest getting the Fullmetal Editions, higher paper quality, better translation and colour artwork, I promise the pay off is worth it (it is a slow start though) and the anime (s) (both for different reasons) are top tier. Looking forward to 2023 and where your manga journey takes you :)
I have heard that the breserk deluxe edition are 100% worth it. I will hopefully also start readin breserk just after christmas so, it's cool to see some one elses journey with a series as I start mine.
We got this 💪
I've loved watching you on your manga journey Gavin!
Breaking Bad is one of my favourite shows so this fills me with joy! FMA will get read after Berserk, cause that makes me excited!
Introduction is amazing😍 giving me nostalgia vibes for some reason keep it up Gavin your joy is unmatched!
Aw thanks Kayla, you're amazing ❤
This was such a fun video. I haven't avidly read manga in a long while now, and this makes me want to dive back into manga.
Woo do it!
your channel is growing so fast as it should i lovee it i remember you had 11k subs back when you read one piece so happy for you
Thank you ❤
I must say I'm also genuinly surprised and excited by your choice!
Me just happy that Blue Exorcist is on the top 20 😭💙
If you ever do a romance manga Id recommend Skip beat!
Sorry about that!)
I'm honestly amazed that every manga I voted for made it into the top 8 and I think all of the top 8 are worth a read at least.
Hey Gavin! Love your channel- I started watching after Jessie did the one-week-as-Gavin vid! ❤🧡💛
Haha Jesse killed that video, they were awesome haha thank you for being here ❤
I genuinely didn’t think Berserk would win! but it’s going to be so interesting to watch your journey with it, esp alongside one piece.
@@ebbubug I have heard the best things about Junji Ito so I think checking out one shots and short stories would definitely be something I'd look into
Much love
Oooo I have never heard of that but thanks so much for the recommendation! Really appreciate it 😊
Sad Naruto didn't make it, was such a massive part of my teenage years 😓
Also, if you ever do get to it (which I fully recommend)
Sasuke (Sos-kay)
Sakura (Sack-oo-rah) (like the blossom)
(Sorry, couldn't help myself 😅)
really enjoyed the video ^.^
didn't expect the winner, at least not pre you reviewing the first volume, after that I wasn't really surprised anymore xD
I think I could join reading that one as well, I have the first 36 volumes in my shelf and I've only read the first few like 10+ years ago and forgotten everything again... though even if you post vid 1 in january I will probably only join in February
Ayyy read along! That'll be so fun
Pronunciation Guide:
Alphonse: Al-fon-z
Sakura: Sah-ker-ah
Sasuke: Sah-s-kay
Pretty sure those were the only ones I noticed and this is only based on the anime so it could still be wrong.
Oh nice I hope you enjoy Witch Hat Atelier!
love hearing that you were so excited and curious about bleach(even tho sadly it ended up so low in the poll what were the voters up to i feel betrayed by them) because its my all time favourite manga and, even tho im probably biased, one of the best shounen mangas out there, the characters and the way they're written an developed, and all the foreshadowing and things built up from the beginning that ends up coming full circle etc. its just so excellent, and the fights are amazing and bleach definitely has one of the best villains in the manga world.
really looking forward to the day where you eventually end up picking it up, i really hope you'll do a reading series for bleach like you're doing with one piece because i would truly watch the heck out of that, im so curious about how you'd enjoy it!
YAY! My two manga I voted for came in as the top two! (before you read them, I've not got to that yet)
🙌
@@GavinReadsItAll Booooooooo you dumped them both. That’s it, unsubscribing now 😉 j/k
This was a great way of choosing a new manga series to start! I agree mixing up the darkness level while reading One Piece is a good idea
Ahh thank you 🥰
When you release your Skypiea arc review.
I really enjoyed this format for picking new mangas :)
Beserk is really a master piece, good choice :)
Thanks for watching!
I burst out laughing at the first 2 rounds drawn out of the hat. Ultimate juxtaposition. Look forward to your continued manga journey
The hat was not working in my favour 😂
I was rooting for the series that won the entire time! I did think the final two were gonna be the winner and monster so I was. Bit surprised 😊
Aaron I need to see you do a manga tournament next I think 👀
@@GavinReadsItAll your wish is my command 😜
Fun fact: Gon and Luffy share a birthday and it is the same as mine May 5. And am just loving your manga journey, so great to see it.
Oh wow that's 2 days before my birthday!! Now I wish I was born on May 5th and not May 7th 😂
2023 can be the year we fall in love with Berserk, join meeee
@@GavinReadsItAll Ok, let's doooo this! Still a bit scared though, not gonna lie 😂😂😂
My daughter loves manga. Her favorites are The Promiseland, My Hero Academia, Toliet Bound Hanako Kun, Tora Dora.
RIP
Dark Souls you say?? Love that, and I had no idea! Maybe that's kind of why I gravitated towards it? Love Dark Souls, Bloodborne, etc.
Welcome to the Grimdark Fantasy Gavin
Thank you for the welcome hehe
HxH is one of the most meticulousy written manga out there, the attention to detail, the character writing, the world building are all insane
Fma is definitely the most subtle in it's writing in a way that you'll get to the end only to look back and realize all the inceerdible growth these characters have gone through
Naruto I just love, it's what got me into anime/manga and has some of the best character writing in shonen. It's a very Japanese folklore inspired story as well
Berserk Idk what can be said it's just the best manga of all time (after one piece). May Miura rest in peace
BERSERK!!!!💖
My first Manga (still reading) and I am so happy Guts & co. are here 🙂
I'm collecting the Deluxe editions slowly, and they are expensive (especially here in NZ) but SO worth it for the art alone...just stunning. They are heavy to hold whilst reading (though not as heavy & awkward as The Walking Dead Compendiums), so I want to invest in a Book-Rest for the books to sit on so I can be comfy as I read haha XD
Enjoy, Gavin, and be prepared for rage, bittersweet moments, tears and lots of laughs!
Oh the Walking Dead compendiums ended up really hurting my hands and wrists when reading, so it's good to know the Berserk editions are not as bad. And I am so not prepared for the Berserk journey 😂
