@@GavinReadsItAll Not done with the video yet, but I have gotten to you reading Made in Abyss and I gotta warn you, a lot of the problematic aspects you had problems with persist, and get worse, as the manga continues. I assume that's why Emily Rudd specified enjoying the anime, which I know tones down (mainly) and gets rid of (rarely) a lot of that stuff. Kevin Penkin being the composer of the anime also elevates it way higher than the manga IMO. (seriously just listen to "Hanezeve Caradhina" or "The Rumble of Scientific Triumph") Made in Abyss is incredible, I don't want you to drop it, but switching to the anime (two seasons + 1 movie) is probably for the best. Again, some stuff is still there that might turn you away from it, which is perfectly valid, but I think it's way better than in the manga.
Dandadan is great! I understand the start is weak but it really becomes good. it stays weird for sure, but the pervyness is minimal from here on. The female characters are very well written
For the Yugioh manga, what you read was the original game of the week with a drop of horror, which did get a anime adaptation, that never made it to the west, the community refers to it as season 0. When the first Yugi Vs Kiba chapter happened in the manga and introduced the duel monsters card game, it was so popular that fans where calling if it was a real game or could they print real cards and its popularity sky rocketed from there and author then relaunched the series as focused around the card game and that anime of it came to the west and is what most of us saw growing up.
The ascendece of a bookworm light novels are one of the the things i love the most, I have listened to all 30 or so books that have been translated so far and can not recomend it enough, it is somewhat of a slow and wholesome story tho for those that need action all the time.
I'm so excited you've started Higurashi! It's my favourite horror manga series of all time but TRUST ME the horror is a psychological slow burn at the beginning which is likely to confuse until the pieces start falling into place. It's originally based on a visual novel game :) (Alice in Borderland actually has a live action series on Netflix which is really good and worth checking out for sure!)
(also recommend the anime for Made in Abyss - they don't have as much of the questionable stuff cross over into it thankfully and the music and voice acting are TOP NOTCH. It's one of my favourite animes of all time)
I’d really recommend Higurashi visual novels over the manga. The first ones free on steam and the sound really adds to it. The second half’s really intense and the later chapters go into quite deep topics.

For jojo, i agree that the actions of DIO are definitely unforgiveable. jojo has 9 unique parts of the story that each have a completely different plot, location, era and feel while simultaneously maintaining structural stability. Part 1 feels completely different from the rest of the series and a lot of people think that it is a bit lackluster in comparison to the rest. But it does pick up soon and will get more bizarre Also, have you heard of bocchi the rock? similar to komi in overcoming social anxiety, except she plays the guitar.
Really happy to see you pick up The Ancient Magus' Bride. Btw Magus is pronounced the other way and Chise is pronounced as Chee-say. One of my favs. Love to see your journey with other series like Dorohedoro, Slam Dunk, Dandadan, Made in Abyss and more.
Since you're dropping Slam Dunk, I'll just say when I finished it I couldn't stop crying, and I hated the ending. The next day I went back and read it again, and I completely flipped my opinion on it. Maybe one day you'll read Slam Dunk, until then I can't wait to see what manga you read next.
Oh boy I cannot wait for more JoJo stuff!! Man I have only watched your walking dead video but honestly I can already tell you will just love the rest of the series! The seventh part was the first manga to make ever make me cry. I really hope to continue with the series

38:28 yeah JoJos part 1 is the slowest to get through imo. The next parts become much more fastpaced, creative and fun imo! And each part has its own protagonist and its own flavour. My favourite so far is Diamond is Unbreakable!

Ascendance of a Bookworm and Moriarty the Patriot are a couple of my favorites! So glad you enjoyed them! I adore Bookworm so much, but I'll just briefly mention that some people get caught off guard by how the world in Bookworm expands, and aren't always sure they want to continue - I think it's well worth it (I just started part 5 vol 9 of the light novel and very much enjoying it), but it's something that I've seen several people bring up. I'm a huge Sherlock Holmes fan so I knew I'd like Moriarty the Patriot since it's such an interesting perspective. I think I'm only around vol 5 or 6 rn so plenty to catch up on (no time :( ) lol Oshi no Ko! I also thought this might be super weird based on thr summary when I picked it up originally, but turns out there's just some odd setup for the big twist at the end of the volume which is Just. So. Good. I'm several volumes in and still enjoying it (I've also watched the anime at this point - highly recommend too, just know that the first episode is extra long so that you get the same effect as the first volume lol) Yu-Gi-Oh just has a special spot in my heart - the early manga is different from what most people think of so (only duel monsters lol) so I'm not surprised it felt different from what you remembered but it's a lot of fun XD yuugi (a japanese word for game) and ou/oh (japanese word for king) - so king of games, and it starts off being varying types of "games", even tho eventually duel monsters becomes the main focus XD the anime that most people are familiar with only touches on the duel monsters bit, but there was an earlier separate series (I don't think it made it outside of japan) that covered the early chapters too! I've read a couple vols of The Summer Hikaru Died and it's sooo intriguing, but I have to be in the right kind of mood to read bc of the eerie-ness so my pace is super slow lol
I was so excited to see this video on a night where I'm going to be up late with a cup of coffee. The winter nights are long and dark, but this channel has been making mine very cozy. Speaking of, if you see this, Gavin, I have to ask how do you take your coffee/tea. They always look particularly delicious when you show off what you're drinking.

What a fun video! Of these I personally love A Man and his Cat, Ancient Magus Bride, Girl from the Other Side, and Ascendance of a Bookworm! One thing I will note re: Girl From the Other Side--I think if you go on reading while looking for Answers, it will not be anyone's favorite. Like you mentioned about the Vibes already, it prioritizes the dreamlike/eerie atmosphere and while there IS an ending it's definitely not a "Ah! The story makes so much sense now, it was all Meant for Something!" situation but rather it is just trying to immerse you in this dark but sweet fairytale. Recommended! but with that caveat ;) If you haven't already read them I think you will really like Shadows House, and also Magus of the Library. Really beautiful art and intriguing story and characters. :D
dandadan is definitely worth it! firepunch is a series i definitly appreciated more than i enoyed it, i would recommend you to continue with it, it shifts from being violent in a physical sense to becoming more effed up in a psychological sense and does some inteseting things with the concepts of protagonist/antagnist/storytelling itself and the way perceptions of people influence you and others but definitly dont expect some fulfilling ending or resolution
I recommend reading the light novel instead for Ascendance of a Bookworm. They are adapting parts 2, 3, and 4 into manga at the same time because the series is long, but that means that *nothing after part 1 is finished.* The light novel is being translated in order and it's getting close to the end, so there's a lot to read in the meantime. ✌️
I LOVE BOOKWORM AHHHHH SO EXCITED FOR YOU TO READ MORE. And JoJo’s part 1 is definitely the weakest, it gets exponentially better as the series goes on. p.s the ancient magus bride is very innocent and sweet no weird stuff going on :)

I'm not agree, even if both are very good, the Made in Abyss manga is way better than the anime. There are so many details is the manga and some of them do not appear in the anime. Also the drawing is very impressive and the story become more and more interesting (and gloomy !)

The reason Yu Gi Oh! was not what you expected is because the original run of the manga is not the same as the anime. They based the anime series on it to sell the card game. There is an adaption of the manga but I don't think it was ever dubbed, its refered to as season 0.

2 anime recommendations for you: 1. My New Boss is Goofy. Wholesome, slice of life. Contains a cat whose perspective we get. 2. Black Clover. How you described Mash reminds me of Asta. Found family vibes. Can be very silly sometimes. Lots of action.
I hated the first volume of the Black Clover manga because I hated Asta and how he wouldn't stop shouting haha however so many people told me he gets less shout-ey as the series goes on so I may give it a chance. Never heard of My New Boss is Goofy so thanks so much for the recommendation!

Moriarty has been one of my favs the past few years. Right now I have up to vol 12. I have not yet started Ascendance of a Bookworm yet. It's on my list. If you want wholesome, you could try I'm Kinda Chubby and I'm Your Hero.

Pokémon Adventures is without a doubt one auf the best Manga I know. The Story is always realy good and the writing of the charakters is one of the best i've seen. The creator of Pokémon even said, that this is how he imagined Pokémon to be originaly. You won't regrett continuing it. ;)
Ascendance of a Bookworm Light Novels is the series that got me back into reading. The Light Novels are the most complete(in the publishing sense at least, since it has the most material currently out) and the final volume(33 a.k.a. Part 5 Volume 12) of the Light Novel in Japanese just released this month. I hope you enjoy your wade into this wonderful series.

Some series I really love here! I also hate football but I'm enjoying Blue Lock. I even have some figures for it though you won't meet my fave Reo for a few volumes. I also adore Moriarty the Patriot - his younger brother is fit enough said - but still need to get volume 2 and The Summer Hikaru Died??? I'm not big on horror manga but oh boy, the atmosphere, the vibes? It's also so good. Funnily enough, I also got into Blue Lock and The Summer Hikaru Died for similar reasons which is people who like my current fave ship from a game liking these series for similar ship vibes XD. I laughed a little seeing Higurashi though as oh boy, I remember when that was a popular series when we were teens. And yeah slowburn psychological horror but it can get really fucked up. Sadly I was never able to get into it but hey at least you'll have a proper yandere experience with it lololol. And Oshi no Ko. I kinda wanna get into it. But then I see the fans being all incesty with Aqua and Ruby and I'm concerned because of it. But the eyes are really pretty, I like dark stuff and also it's an idol series so I feel like I need to get into it XD. Maybe one day
For JoJo's, the body proportions are, at least in part, because Araki (the author) liked to base it off avant garde fashion and fashion models. It also acts as a parody of shounen stereotypes with their poses and melodrama. Part 1 is also considered one of the weakest, though I love it for its gothic themes. Definitely stick with it because it improves with every part - and you'll get why it has been around for so long!
I love Moriarty the Patriot. Yu-Gi-Oh! was a childhood favorite, but yeah the anime is based on the “sequel” of the manga Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist. While card game did make an appearance in the original manga, but it was like two times when Kaiba appeared.
As an older generation, I love dragon ball. My son and I used to watch dragon ball, poke on and yu gi oh before I walked him to school every day. But dragon ball was my favourite.
You read so many I dont even know of, and I am an old timey anime fan. Anyway, dont judge a series by their first volume. Like Jojo alone can have very different feel to it depending on which arc you are reading. I get getting annoyed at pervy stuff, but so many anime just have them. And its really a throw of dice which way it will go. Like Inuyasha had nudity in it at first to get popular and then it just did away with it, while History's strongest disciple had pervyness but it doubled down on it as the series went on to an extent it started bothering me too much. You should also try- Barakamon, Yotsuba&, Mushishi (try watching this one), Annarasumanara, HunterxHunter, Saint Oniisan/Saint Young men

As someone who also isn't into sport but enjoys sports anime and manga, I'd definitely recommend Kuroko no Basuke (Kuroko's Basketball). Especially for fans of Haikyuu!!

Jojo's bizarre adventure part 1, phantom blood is admittedly a bit rough. It does have its die hard fans, but most people list it as their least favorite part. It really gains its footing in part 2. Id recommend the anime for part 1 at least over the manga due to it just going a lot faster.
If you loved the manga of ascendance of a bookworm it's actually an adaptation off a light novel it's really long but really good I highly recommend plz read Speaking of that would be a good video idea you read manga and light novel versions of the same series and you tell us which one is better.

Highly recommend you continue with Dandadan. While there is still some occasional nudity in the series, the uncomfortableness of the abduction scene feels really out of place with the rest of the manga.
I don't know if you're aware of this, but here's a good rule of thumb from a manga veteran: if a manga came before the anime it will be better than the anime BUT if a manga is based on an anime and came after it, it's usually not very good and the anime will be better.
The ones from this list that I have read or seen are Dragon Ball, Yu-Gi-Oh, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Slam Dunk, Blue Lock and the mentioned Homunculus and liked them all. Dragon Ball and Yu-Gi-Oh are funny in the way that people mostly have only seen or read Dragon Ball Z and not the OG or that Yu-Gi-Oh's most famous adaptation starts from Duelist 1(the 8th volume)

What a fun video! Of these I personally love A Man and his Cat, Ancient Magus Bride, Girl from the Other Side, and Ascendance of a Bookworm! One thing I will note re: Girl From the Other Side--I think if you go on reading while looking for Answers, it will not be anyone's favorite. Like you mentioned about the Vibes already, it prioritizes the dreamlike/eerie atmosphere and while there IS an ending it's definitely not a "Ah! The story makes so much sense now, it was all Meant for Something!" situation but rather it is just trying to immerse you in this dark but sweet fairytale. Recommended! but with that caveat ;)
If you haven't already read them I think you will really like Shadows House, and also Magus of the Library. Really beautiful art and intriguing story and characters. :D

firepunch is a series i definitly appreciated more than i enoyed it, i would recommend you to continue with it, it shifts from being violent in a physical sense to becoming more effed up in a psychological sense and does some inteseting things with the concepts of protagonist/antagnist/storytelling itself and the way perceptions of people influence you and others but definitly dont expect some fulfilling ending or resolution

I recommend reading the light novel instead for Ascendance of a Bookworm. They are adapting parts 2, 3, and 4 into manga at the same time because the series is long, but that means that *nothing after part 1 is finished.* The light novel is being translated in order and it's getting close to the end, so there's a lot to read in the meantime. ✌️

I'm not agree, even if both are very good, the Made in Abyss manga is way better than the anime. There are so many details is the manga and some of them do not appear in the anime. Also the drawing is very impressive and the story become more and more interesting (and gloomy !)

The reason Yu Gi Oh! was not what you expected is because the original run of the manga is not the same as the anime. They based the anime series on it to sell the card game. There is an adaption of the manga but I don't think it was ever dubbed, its refered to as season 0.

2 anime recommendations for you:
1. My New Boss is Goofy. Wholesome, slice of life. Contains a cat whose perspective we get.
2. Black Clover. How you described Mash reminds me of Asta. Found family vibes. Can be very silly sometimes. Lots of action.
I hated the first volume of the Black Clover manga because I hated Asta and how he wouldn't stop shouting haha however so many people told me he gets less shout-ey as the series goes on so I may give it a chance.

Pokémon Adventures is without a doubt one auf the best Manga I know. The Story is always realy good and the writing of the charakters is one of the best i've seen. The creator of Pokémon even said, that this is how he imagined Pokémon to be originaly. You won't regrett continuing it. ;)

Ascendance of a Bookworm Light Novels is the series that got me back into reading. The Light Novels are the most complete(in the publishing sense at least, since it has the most material currently out) and the final volume(33 a.k.a. Part 5 Volume 12) of the Light Novel in Japanese just released this month.
I hope you enjoy your wade into this wonderful series.

Some series I really love here! I also hate football but I'm enjoying Blue Lock. I even have some figures for it though you won't meet my fave Reo for a few volumes. I also adore Moriarty the Patriot - his younger brother is fit enough said - but still need to get volume 2 and The Summer Hikaru Died??? I'm not big on horror manga but oh boy, the atmosphere, the vibes? It's also so good. Funnily enough, I also got into Blue Lock and The Summer Hikaru Died for similar reasons which is people who like my current fave ship from a game liking these series for similar ship vibes XD.
I laughed a little seeing Higurashi though as oh boy, I remember when that was a popular series when we were teens. And yeah slowburn psychological horror but it can get really fucked up. Sadly I was never able to get into it but hey at least you'll have a proper yandere experience with it lololol.
And Oshi no Ko. I kinda wanna get into it. But then I see the fans being all incesty with Aqua and Ruby and I'm concerned because of it. But the eyes are really pretty, I like dark stuff and also it's an idol series so I feel like I need to get into it XD. Maybe one day
For JoJo's, the body proportions are, at least in part, because Araki (the author) liked to base it off avant garde fashion and fashion models. It also acts as a parody of shounen stereotypes with their poses and melodrama.
Part 1 is also considered one of the weakest, though I love it for its gothic themes. Definitely stick with it because it improves with every part - and you'll get why it has been around for so long!
I love Moriarty the Patriot. Yu-Gi-Oh! was a childhood favorite, but yeah the anime is based on the “sequel” of the manga Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist. While card game did make an appearance in the original manga, but it was like two times when Kaiba appeared.
As an older generation, I love dragon ball. My son and I used to watch dragon ball, poke on and yu gi oh before I walked him to school every day. But dragon ball was my favourite.

You read so many I dont even know of, and I am an old timey anime fan. Anyway, dont judge a series by their first volume. Like Jojo alone can have very different feel to it depending on which arc you are reading.
I get getting annoyed at pervy stuff, but so many anime just have them. And its really a throw of dice which way it will go. Like Inuyasha had nudity in it at first to get popular and then it just did away with it, while History's strongest disciple had pervyness but it doubled down on it as the series went on to an extent it started bothering me too much.
You should also try- Barakamon, Yotsuba&, Mushishi (try watching this one), Annarasumanara, HunterxHunter, Saint Oniisan/Saint Young men

Moriarty technically did finish (not fully out yet in english you have to read scans) but there is a part 2 thats is supposed to come out eventually.
As someone who also isn't into sport but enjoys sports anime and manga, I'd definitely recommend Kuroko no Basuke (Kuroko's Basketball). Especially for fans of Haikyuu!!

Jojo's bizarre adventure part 1, phantom blood is admittedly a bit rough. It does have its die hard fans, but most people list it as their least favorite part. It really gains its footing in part 2. Id recommend the anime for part 1 at least over the manga due to it just going a lot faster.
If you loved the manga of ascendance of a bookworm it's actually an adaptation off a light novel it's really long but really good I highly recommend plz read

Highly recommend you continue with Dandadan. While there is still some occasional nudity in the series, the uncomfortableness of the abduction scene feels really out of place with the rest of the manga.

I don't know if you're aware of this, but here's a good rule of thumb from a manga veteran: if a manga came before the anime it will be better than the anime BUT if a manga is based on an anime and came after it, it's usually not very good and the anime will be better.
I think a good one volume manga to read is Solanin by Inio Asano. It’s not too long and has a really good heart wrenching story.
I love the Summer Hikaru Died
The ones from this list that I have read or seen are Dragon Ball, Yu-Gi-Oh, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Slam Dunk, Blue Lock and the mentioned Homunculus and liked them all. Dragon Ball and Yu-Gi-Oh are funny in the way that people mostly have only seen or read Dragon Ball Z and not the OG or that Yu-Gi-Oh's most famous adaptation starts from Duelist 1(the 8th volume)
