Agree about the guard dogs, completely understand it but it's really unnerving at times 🙈 Enjoy that sunny beach...nope, not jealous at all 😂 It must seem a million miles from Scandinavia! Stephen, the man of many talents! Those mountain roads are a nightmare, I dread meeting someone coming the other way! I wanted to ask, does it do you guys any favours if we watch the ads all through? We are leaving Cyprus today and heading to Greece!

    • @comealongdear

      Morning guys! He is indeed the man of many talents, as you'll witness next week 😁😉 He did really well with the roads and thankfully in the worst parts we didn't meet anyone coming the other way. I love those villages but damn, we do wonder if they're worth that stress 😂
      As for the adverts, I think it does help us more if people watch the whole thing. But we'd never expect anyone to! However, thank you for asking, that's really kind of you and if you do watch them obviously we are very grateful 😊🙏 I hope everything goes well leaving Cyprus today, how long are you in Greece for? Take care guys and thank you ❤️

    POV: You suffer so much on those roads because your wheel is on the wrong side for driving outside the UK, Ireland, Australia or Japan. I would say that is a huge factor for you to struggle so much.
    But the road itself you can tell is not that bad because it has double night guards, which means basically two things: one the road has proper capabilities, and two it is used by many motor bikes, because being fun to ride, beautiful and with pavement in good conditions for two wheels vehicles.
    OTOH keep your good work with your video journals, it is nice to watch my country through your eyes.

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  20 днів тому +1

      Yes you're definitely right driving on the "wrong" side makes it harder when abroad. The road had adequate barriers etc and didn't feel unsafe as such, it also helped that it wasn't busy and probably rarely is. However, even back home in the UK, we hate driving on roads like this. Its very unpleasant I think. On a motorbike, it's a different story as there's plenty of room to move.
      Still, it was worth it for the village, just about! Thank you and have a good week 😊

    Well, we feel that given our current location we are best placed to answer your question! Yes, that did look very much like Greece or at least the regions we've visited so far.
    Mura looked lovely and great fun to get to. But this is the problem, a lot of the prettiest places are away from the main roads and as you found, usually up a mountain.
    Safe travels and see you on the road, much love Darren and Alison 🤟♥️

      Hey guys! Glad I wasn't imagining the Greek thing, it definitely had that feel to it. Beautiful coast and a good time of year to visit.
      Mura being fun to get to is one way of putting it 😬 However, in our experience Spain's roads, even with mountains like that, are in significantly better condition than the UK's, so there's that at least. I kept thinking you would have adored Mura, especially Alison. Much prettier than you're initially lead to believe.
      Safe travels and Happy New Year to you both, much love ❤️ 🤟

    I hope you had a good Christmas and work was ok. Great video as always - what a contrast in locations! The mountain village looked so interesting and your walk along the beach was just beautiful - both with lovely accompanying music, thank you. The mountain road reminded me of a day we had at Lake Vyrnwy in Wales when we had an old motorhome - I told my OH I refuse to come back on this road (which wasn’t actually that bad condition-wise )in the dark but we spent so long stopping at the lake, we left it too late to go back the (longer) way we came so took a shortcut. Oh my! That was a nightmare - it turned dark and we ended up on a single track “Road” bendy, steep and goodness knows what kind of drop was on the left hand side of the “Road” 😲😲😲😲😲. I think it’s best we shall probably never know. As for your future, take advantage of every opportunity you get to travel, live once, have no regrets. Wishing you both a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. ❤️❤️

      @comealongdear  20 днів тому

      Hi Irene 🥰 I am getting palpitations just reading that 😂🙈 I've already looked up this Lake Vyrnwy and made a mental note to not take a shortcut if we ever go there 😉 That sounds horrendous and yes I think it's best you don't know what was there, but in the dark ita harder to see and therefore more terrifying. I'm glad you got through that! We've been there and it's stomach churning.
      We felt very lucky to visit these places, so so peaceful and the coast with no one around was pure bliss. I don't know how long we'll do this for but we definitely try to make the most of every opportunity we get to travel - the wonders of a campervan!
      Thank you Irene, I hope everything is well for you both, and wishing you a happy and healthy new year too. Any trips planned out for next year? Take care ❤️

    "Look at the state of our windshield..." Nah, mate, look at the state of those roads! 😳😱 I didn't even notice the windshield until you pointed it out, I was aghast with the road. Honestly though, what a pretty town. Proper adventure! Still, a good whiff of authentic British complaining. I can relate 💯 😂😂
    That gorgeous cove walk was amazing, it does look a bit Greek. Probably packed in summer.
    You really are very lucky to get to go on trips like that. No worries, just a bit of a Stephen frown from time to time. 🙃
    I'd really like to have a sewing machine to make clothes, but that's a future thing.
    Hope you had a good Christmas and not too terrible weather. Sweden serves rain, clouds, and all which makes for a good old depressing time, BUT the winter solstice was December 21 so now we move on to brighter days by the literal minute by minute! 😂🌞 Can't wait!
    Cheers from Skåne! ❤

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  20 днів тому +1

      God morgon! When you spend so long filming the road, you will often notice the condition of your windscreen 😂 The roads were hair-raising indeed and we were so relieved to go back the same way, although the other way wasn't exactly a breeze and still took ages. But yes, we are still incredibly lucky to visit these places. The magic of a campervan. In Mura there was a lady, who was the spit of a young Shelley Duvall, who asked if we were sticking around for the "party" happening that week. We weren't sadly, but it seemed utterly surreal to hear that in such a serene, isolated place. I wonder if it has more entertainment events than you might think, on account of it being too difficult to go elsewhere. It does have a bus service though! (Imagine that as your daily commute though 😬).
      The beach area was sublime and we definitely visited at the right time. Very curious what it's like in summer given it seems to be aimed very much at people who want peace and quiet.
      Aah sewing, yes it's a future thing for us, along with other projects we are desperate to take up that we can't do in a van. We do need a base again..
      We had an okay Christmas thank you, even if we were working. I still attempted a DIY Christmas dinner which turned out okay. I hope yours went well? What's a typical Swedish Christmas dinner?
      Despite the gloom yes brighter days are coming, inch by inch, although hard to appreciate given the coldest month is yet to arrive 😂 Winter can be beautiful at least. Got to find the positives!
      Thank you as always and have a good week ❤️🥰

    • @AbsolutePernilla
      @AbsolutePernilla 20 днів тому +1

      @comealongdear makes you think what party it could have been in that secluded area. 😳😂 Probably just a Christmas party. I couldn't help but dream a bit of what it would be like living and working in a place like that. Not at all like the frumpy beach front it seems. (Btw, who goes on a trip by the Med and does NOT bring a swimsuit??) Maybe the high altitudes does something to you... 🤪🥳
      We don't usually celebrate Christmas, but this year we were invited to my friend's place. They served up a basic Swedish julbord with pickled herring, Janssons frestelse (julienned potatoes au gratin with anchovies), different cabbages and spiced breads, cheese, paté, sylta(pressed jellied meat), eggs, tiny prinskorv (thumb sized sausages), meatballs, the compulsory roasted ham, and rice a la Malta as dessert. Might have forgotten some. A proper julbord can be much more varied and if you book a julbord at a restaurant or in you go on an empty stomach because you're supposed to take more than a few "turns" to the julbord spread starting with cold cuts and pickled herring of different flavor, then cold meats, then hot food like ribs, cabbage, brussel sprouts, gratins, potatoes, meatballs, sausages, etc, then some rice porridge perhaps or rice a la Malta, and then one buffet of cheese, salami, and crackers and last a buffet of different Christmas biscuits and sweets. It takes hours. To the food you usually have beer or julmust (our spiced version of coke). Look up julbord if you dare. 🤪 Now all I want for the cold months is snow to brighten it up a bit more, but down here we mostly get slush... 🙃
      Have a happy new year! 🥳🍾🥂🎆

      I can't even imagine living there in Mura. And despite being Spain I imagine there can be some treacherous weather up there too. But I suppose people get used to it - the roads at least, weren't busy. Also the condition of Spanish roads in general is much better than UK ones we've found, plus far less cars to deal with! I'm curious about the party too 😂 I guess festive, and for locals who can walk back to their home. Don't fancy getting out of there at night! I also wanted to ask that shopkeeper how she even makes enough money! Maybe she owns it though.
      Oh my god a julbord sounds like heaven. That is the style of eating at Christmas, with that kind of food, that I think might trump our traditional Christmas dinner! I want to try one now! Maybe we'll host our own, but not until we have a home again 😂 Rice a la Malta sounds tempting, but all of it does. I actually think that all sounds more suited to Christmas than what we do.
      A Google tells me the rice dish is often served at a Danish "julefrokost" and I did love the description - "a festive occasion that combines holiday cheer with excessive drinking and the release of pent-up feelings" - where do we sign up to one of these, please? 😂
      Well I hope you had a grand time and were suitably stuffed. I am definitely making a note of this julbord tradition because I think it's right up our street. Thank you! ❤️

    • @AbsolutePernilla
      @AbsolutePernilla 20 днів тому +1

      @@comealongdear 😂😂😂 that description is accurate. There are quite a few Swedish homes to where a quite drunk Santa appears, family feuds are started and squabbles galore continue. Luckily I never experienced that. My friend played Santa and she did a great job, even though the beard got struck between her eyes. 😂
      Come back to Sweden next year and feast. It's quite an experience but can be quite pricey. You have all year to prqctise though. 🤪 What is a typical British Christmas dinner?

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  20 днів тому

      I think the Swedish sound very much like us Brits in many ways! I certainly feel we are more similar to each other than to, say, the French for example, despite them being just across from us.
      Our Christmas Dinner is normally a one-plate job, consisting of turkey, roast potatoes (an absolute must), brussels, roast parsnips, stuffing, pigs in blankets (sausage wrapped in bacon), perhaps carrots and other veg of choice, of course lashings of gravy, and usually with cranberry sauce. Bread sauce is also a tradition and I adore it, though I feel it is less common now. If I cook I put red cabbage with ours too.
      Boxing Day is then a free for all type of feast, a bit like a julbord actually but maybe less elaborate. Cold meats, salad, mash potato and pickles, that sort of thing. It's more casual and fun than Christmas dinner, although I adore both.
      This is making me hungry now 😂🙈

    Violins were the instrument of choice for this soundtrack, holidays do come to an end far too soon. Amazes me why people spend so much washing their cars, unless they dont have access to water and a cloth or are they covering their tracks, where have they been? Those towns did seem deserted this time of year, never seen anything like it. Hiho hiho back to work you go and ho ho ho for christmas. Life keeps you busy, better than being bored. 😴 🍻 The label on that beer bottle suave? Is that how it made you feel? 👍

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  20 днів тому

      Yes do break out the violins for us, 2 months abroad is just not enough 😢 😂 Of course, how lucky we are, though - and that was the point of living in a campervan. If we can't go to see things, what's the purpose of all that sacrifice really? So no complaints here, but it's terrible timing to leave warm weather for the heart of winter back home. Inland France was bone-chilling - being by the sea at least keeps things warmer, relatively, as it keeps it cooler in summer.
      I think suave is the last thing we can claim to be after Benidorm 🙈 It's a cheap beer over there - those litre bottles are about 70-80p!
      Work is nearly done as we speak, and then we'll be trotting around the UK after catching up with a few people first. Though we are back at work end of January so we'll try to squeeze a fair bit of filming in before then.

Harry is coming to terms with being confined to barracks, I feel for him but want him to stay healthy. @comealongdear  20 днів тому

      Maybe he drives more sensibly on Tuesdays 🤷‍♂️😉 Harry will be okay, I assume he's got some room to roam around in the house, so he'll be alright. Are wild animals a problem or danger for him there? I've obviously got my Brit head on when I ask that, thinking of all your horrifying spiders, snakes, crocs and god knows what else 🙈
      Well, you know it is never too late to try these things, and people venture into van living at all sorts of stages in their lives. I know of course it's easier said than done. We have been very lucky and it's been a great life, but it does take a lot of determination and acceptance of the difficulties that come with it. We won't do this forever, we really want a base and to still have a van (not much to ask is it 😂) but it has no doubt been the best thing we ever did ❤️

    • @tomcat7525
      @tomcat7525 19 днів тому +1

      @@comealongdear Stray cats and dogs are Harry's biggest threat, no crocs (except the ones I'm wearing) Most of the other scary creatures are up north where its warmer. House prices are a problem everywhere, we have some of the biggest in the world here with two people rattling around in them. Logically if houses were smaller more could be built. I hope you find something you can call home when you are ready to take root again or maybe time sharing a home with other van people? But until then live an interesting and challenging life. Bugger boredom, like dignity its much overrated! 😀

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  19 днів тому

      Oh no do you have many strays in Australia then? I suppose it's so large it makes sense, but I always imagined you to be similar to us, where (mostly) that didn't happen. Thank god for no crocs. What about spiders and snakes?!
      Yes housing is a huge problem here too - and our population is 3 times the size of yours almost in a fraction of the space. It's become so expensive and hard to find places, so it does make us hesitant to stop this. However, we have other things we want to do and we'd need a base for that. The call of running water and a flushing toilet is always beckoning somewhere in the background too 😉 But yes, this has been the most exciting part of our lives we've ever lived, and we are so grateful for it - we have a lot to think about, because going back to the mundane isn't necessarily the greatest idea either! Hmmm

      Yes and while I'm sure in most cases it's fine (we love dogs!) it can be really frightening when they run up to you of a certain size. In Spain it feels more common and some of those guard dogs were terrifying 🙈 Hopefully they are well looked after, the ones we saw seemed okay and healthy, just a bit aggressive.
      I went for a run one day there a few weeks ago and came to 3 HUGE barking dogs and there was no fence. I froze to the spot. All I could do was slowly back away and turn around. I didn't run again until I was out of sight. The dogs seemed to know not to cross the garden border (again I'm sure they're just trained to bark as a warning effectively) but as a passer-by in the middle of nowhere, I couldn't have known that.

    Your efforts to bring us cute little Spanish villages is appreciated - even if the access issues are daunting. Thanks also for the tour of those coastal towns. You should buy one of those beachfront villas - even if you have to mortgage Daisy to do it! Keep up the good work!

      Thank you 🥰 We do like to visit the quieter places (Benidorm last week is a rarity for us) and it's much more enjoyable to explore. If anything, it's also easier to film.
      Haha I think we'd have to mortgage a hell of a lot more than Daisy to get a place in Callela de Palafrugell 😂 You can get some cheap Spanish property for sure, but it seems to be right at the higher end of the market there! After seeing those beaches we do kind of get it however, although less so for the town/village itself.
      Thank you and have a good week ❤️

    Hi Dan and Steve, well that road was hairy to say the least, I hate edges more than heights. Glad you made it to the village as you say quite a marathon to get there. The coastal walk was amazing and yes it did look very much like Greece.
    Sad to see you leaving Spain but hey what an epic journey you've had. Hope you get to post from France weather permitting and have a safe journey home. Hope to see you in 2025 ( evening if back in the UK) Happy new year and thank you for sharing your travels and a glimpse into your everyday lives. It's been magical and so much fun to watch. Susie ❤x😊

      Hi Susie 🥰 Thank you, we were sad to leave but what a wonderful experience we've had, we realise how lucky we have been to get to do this and it's been lovely to have yourself and others follow along with us ❤️ I'm really glad you've enjoyed the journey. We are back in the UK now bur there is one last France video to come which has its own set of drama and less exploring sadly, but, well...you'll see next week 😂🙈 We are fine though and got home safely is all that matters. Next year we'll be exploring more of the UK and getting out and about in the winter, so we'll see what that brings!
      Happy new year you too, wishing you all the best, and thank you for coming along with us on our little travels 😍❤️

      @comealongdear Thanks Dan, it's always such a pleasure. Pleased that you are in UK safely hope work hasn't been too daunting. Will look forward to the French video. Glad you will be exploring some more of the UK when you can you always take us on some great adventures even if it is sitting in the van in a car park somewhere moaning about the weather ! Always look out for the net bag of oranges which I noted were there today. Love to see what you are cooking up and trying to wake Stephen from a deep sleep always makes me smile we kinda know what the mood will be lol but he's adorable with it. Look forward to seeing you soon, Susie p.s. Fifi still in bed after a traumatic Saturday evening. She was watching me prepare a curry from the last of the turkey joint and she was taking a great interest in ( although she doesn't actually like turkey) she grabbed the red string that was tying the end. The last thing I saw was it hanging on her claw then suddenly she was licking her lips. The string was nowhere to be seen....rang out of hrs vet, we took her straight in, vet gave her a jab to make her sick, we had to spin her around in a chair for about 10 mins ( poor Fifi) she obliged us, the string was there, 2 further jabs and £300 later we were back home knowing she would be ok.... relief all round. Bye bye xxx

      @comealongdear  19 днів тому +1

      Oh my god! Poor Fifi, that must have been so frightening for you all 😧 I can't believe she managed to swallow the whole string! I thought dogs were more prone to that than cats. She must've really wanted that turkey 🙈 I'm so glad you managed to get it sorted. She must've been so dazed after that chair spinning but it had to be done. That'll teach her for trying to eat something she doesn't much like 😂🙈 Poor girl, give her lots of cuddles from us and I hope she is recovering well ❤️ xx

    That made me feel nostalgic, very familiar with the Catalonia coastline. My friends (Spanish locals) have an apartment on the front at Llafranc but they don’t use it in July or August as it’s too busy.

    Thanks for the lovely video. Great music, interesting scenery and Dan with his top off first thing in the morning. We were in Spain a few weeks ago and saw on the news all snow in the north. Very pretty but best avoided when you are travelling in a van. So i think you made the right choice. Have a lovely new year.

      Hi Stephen, thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊 Where did you travel to in Spain? We love seeing the snow but we try to drive out of the way at all costs, even with our snow chains, which we'll hopefully never need 🙈 Not worth the risk of getting stuck. Anyway, I hope you had a good trip there and Happy New Year to you ❤️

      @comealongdear it is our birthdays in December so we like to get away if possible. We had recently come back from a trip to Australia so we wanted to go somewhere for two weeks which we could easily get to in a couple of hours with decent weather. I also needed to be able to do all the Christmas shopping and my car serviced before we left. So we stayed in Benidorm old town. We travelled around a lot going as far as Denia. If I hadn't had a cold we might have gone as far as Valencia. Nevertheless I managed to walk to Finestrat, up to the cross and from Altea to Albir.

    So really, if you don't want it too warm and not hoaching with tourists, go in December. You've said it's still quite warm, but then a threat of snow on Pyrenees. Yes, close shave with that other motorist. Looking forward to next video, keep up the good work on yourselves and videos and don't work too hard. 😘

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  20 днів тому +1

      Afternoon! 😊 Yes, winter is a perfect time to visit Spain. Maybe not hot hot beach temperatures but just a pleasant level that is ultimately more uplifting than our repeated gloom. However, Spain has so many mountainous regions, and of course the Pyrenees were one we had to face (only to the side of them to be fair) which means they will still see the extreme weather in winter, even if it's a picnic perfect day by the coast. You can get a bit of everything in Spain 😁 Work is nearly done thankfully and then we'll enjoy some belated festivities I think 😍 Thank you, I hope you are well ❤️

    Hi! I think blackout curtains would be a must for me, but I suppose you must have got used to the noise outside the van at night as well. Europe has many mountain roads like that everywhere :). So does the UK in many parts as well. Strange that those roads were made during the advent of the car but made them accessible to only one car at a time haha. The more I watch travel vlogs like this, the more I realise trains and easy to reach places are more me. I remember getting motion sickness the last time I drove around the weaves and curves of the lake district. Hope you are well, and wonder what the future holds for you both. :)

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  20 днів тому +1

      Hello! Yes blackouts are definitely a must for us. Although we can't be "stealthy" in our van, it's a least a little more discreet when we're parked in public areas when the light is blocked off. The noise we are used to as you say, that's never been an issue really.
      Oh those roads are everywhere, we've been on worse than that, and as you say, the UK has its fair share. They usually take you by surprise! I think we're with you, we'd rather get to more accessible places, neither of us like the snaking uphill roads, and neither does our van 😂
      Thank you we are both well, I hope you are too. Wishing you all the best for the new year ❤️

    Thanks boys. Lovely places you visited. I would have to spend the whole day in those small Spanish villages. I hope work is going well for you. Must be a shock to the system to leave the warmer climate to come back here and freeze your tits off. 😝😟😰 ilona.

      @comealongdear  20 днів тому

      Evening Ilona 🥰 Yes they were beautiful , we were very lucky to see them and mostly all to ourselves. I suspect we would have stayed in the mountain village longer if wasn't late in the day and not wanting to drive off in the dark 🙈 Wasn't much fun leaving that for the bitter weather here, though inland France was much colder. As I was saying elsewhere, at least by the coast it is a little warmer in winter, although the winds tend to nullify that effect. I hope you're well and wishing you a healthy and happy 2025 ❤️

    I've been dreading this post but it's been coming for a while. I've been following you guys from the early days but I've had enough. Dan is so enthusiastic and does his best but Stephen is - i'm going to say it - nothing but a miserable git. As a van lifer, we are imcredibly fortunate to visit these places and if the idea here is to inspire fellow travellers to visit a place, at least try to a little enthusiastic. He clearly hates van life and absolutely nothing seems to move him emotionally. Dan's exasperation here was palpable. I feel so sorry for him. I'm out. Safe travels guys.

    Lol, I'm pretty sure that if you lift Daisy's passenger side floor mat there is going to be a huge dent from you hitting the passenger brake lol. It must've been exhausting to drive through that stretch of road not knowing it, here in South Africa it wouldn't feel like it was bad because it didn't have the potholes. 🫣❤️

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  20 днів тому +1

      Oh no do you get lots of potholes there then? Yes I'm pretty sure the road would be fine when you're used to it - I remember this older lady driving past us, smiling and relaxed, like it was nothing 😂 incidentally, we've found Spanish roads FAR better quality wise than the UK. They are generally quieter but seem better maintained too. Some of the UK's are horrendous!
