Michael, I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed your content over the last few months since I discovered you channel!
In the spring we will commence work on my m1079 project that has been in the design phase for quite some time. This will be a very special project as we will be building the world's first diesel electric expedition truck. We have a LONG way to go but I'm really excited about it and wanted to share it with you.
Here is the build; we keep the Cat 3116 but remove the transmission and add a generator in it's place. Out with the transfer case, driveshafts and axles, heavy duty e axles are installed and batteries are fitted in the frame rails. Inverters and other electronic components in belly boxes. Think of it as a fully electric truck with it's own built in fast charger. Basically doing in a truck what freight trains have been doing for decades.
There is a local company called Edison Motors (I'm in BC) that are making huge waves in the logging and heavy duty vocational truck world. They are also creating hybrid kits for your old 1 ton pickups. Although the company is still very young, the results they getting are pretty remarkable and they are moving forward really quickly. Retrofitting these old military vehicles could be a really amazing application. I'm expecting 75% fuel savings.
These guys are loggers at heart, they hate Tesla and there engineered obsolescence , they want things to last and for parts to be sourced easily.
Although this project is still in it's infancy, I'm too excited about it not to share it with you. I will be filming the build process.
Check out this video if your interested, it talks about their pickup conversion kits but it gives you an idea of what they're up to. They want to do all types of conversions from pickups to logging trucks.

Fun to see the progress. For some reason the nkce metal screen on the door does not look small enough to stop the very small bugs? Hope I am wrong
