- In this episode I install new more modern mirrors on the truck to replace the clunky military ones. Progress on the cab interior continues with the install of the Scheel-Mann seats & I greatly upgrade the cab security with Paclock hockey puck style locks.
Follow along as I completely outfit and custom fabricate my home on wheels. In this video series I will detail all of the components and build steps that go into completing the ultimate overland expedition vehicle build.

IMHO.. next time you got access. put a large backing plate on inside of door in the mirror area to spread the load. For some reason if I recall right someone made inner piece for this and either sells them . or maybe the drawings were made available.. don't recall which.
I may still do that to make it more secure. I did put the top two bolts through the main support from the old mirror.
This overlanding truck is what dreams are made of...it's my favorite by far!!
Thank you so much!
Great job on the mirrors.
Thank you! Appreciate it.
Hi Mike. You probably won't like those mirrors unless you add a large reinforcement plate behind them inside the door itself. They are very flimsy without it as you probably already know driving down the freeway trying to see vehicles in them through the vibrations....
I hear ya, a little vibration- I probably will add a more significant backing plate this summer. I did mount them through the original brace and put in a brace that I didn't show on camera but I agree- still not enough. They definitely look better though 😂
Awesome project!
Thank you! Cheers!
🧡 Templates are your friend 😉
And they are pretty pictures!
yeah those locks are legit , have one for the spare tire. Ya just gotta WD40 , every so often ~peace~
Good idea, hadn't thought of that.
Great to watch the build progress and love the Scheel-Mann seats.I have a set in my Mercedes Sprinter, not cheap but well worth the cost in terms of comfort when driving long distance. Keep the content coming as this may be my next project in the UK.
Thank you so much. Yes, the seats really are the best.
Always a great build. What color is that anyhow, looks like a red/orange. Can't wait for more vids!
Thank you. It is a reddish orange. Kubota tractor orange.
Great job!
Thanks man!
Nice work man
Thanks man!
A little pucker when drilling the first holes in that great paint job? 😅
Ooooh Yeah! Always scary.
Mike.
Great Video.
I’m for sure taking notes. lol.
I have a 6x6 six wheel steering myself and will start the build in the spring.
I’ll be using a 24 feet long use moving truck truck box for it and go from there.
Truck has also hydraulic commercial airliner shock that travels up or down 12"
Could you please tell me what seat model you used for your cab.
Incredible seats. I agree.
Thanks Mike.
Thank you. I have the Scheel Mann Vario F seats with heat and dual arm rests.
Thank you so much for the info Mike.
Can you tell what kind of engine your truck has and what is the maximum output of that engine? I'm from india and India does have plenty of domestic truck manufacturing companies like tata, mahindra , eicher , bharat benz(indian subsidiary of Mercedes trucks) , ashok layland and few more but most of them have cummins engine but everything else is made domestically so prices for even new trucks are reasonable (compared to western counterparts). There are many heavy haulers from these companies. The ones which i have been looking at is capable of hauling 40 tonnes (that's what company says) .
Here's the thing. I'm completely noob to trucking scene so I'm not really sure if 40 tonnes capacity is enough to build Similar rig as yours . What you say ? Is 40 tonnes capacity overkill or underpowered for camper truck ? Maybe you should also make video regarding this topic and how to choose trucks and capacities and engine types for different needs. Keep it up.
Thanks for watching. The engine is a Caterpillar 3126. It is a 7.2 litre 330hp output. My total truck weighs 15 tonnes, 40 would be ludicrous.
