it means "maybe" and is used in much the same way
"Может" - may
"Может быть" - maybe
У этих слов разный смысл- может- Он может это сделать. 1.He can do it (it's in his power).
2. Может быть я это сделаю- Maybe I will do (50/50)

I don't think so. There is no replacement for live teacher feedback. Any "training" like this on your own will lead to picking up bad habits in the form of pronounciation and other mistakes. Like those teachers who force you to speak actively too early. It is always better to just read and listen if you have the time, than to soliloquize.
