    If you want to do the exhaust the way a lot of dutch truckers do it on scanias you want to make the pipe as long as possible underneath the truck. Some are as long as 18 meters snaking up and down the entire underside making giant resonance in the exhaust sound. Sounds awesome

    That tachograph is basically our logbook, it writes down the driving times and speed, and with the round knobs next to the mileage/odometer you switch to break or (un)loading when you stop driving, but nobody used that, it's always on break. The paper "schijf" on top is for first driver, and the one under the thing you flip over is for second driver when needed. This one will write break i believe, and when you switch driver you switched also the "schijf" . This system is introduced somewhere in 80-83. and in 2006 or so they went digitally

      Nobody use that probably in the USA, but in Europe is mandatory on trucks and police control operations on streets checks the usage . New models are fully digital and every driver has a smart-card to login to register time shifts and rests. No usage implies very heavy fines to truck company and drop points in your license driver up to revoke it.

    Without a trailer you don’t need to drive in the lower range in the gearbox. Gently start in 4’th gear low split. When shifting to next gear than simultaneously go to high split.
    Next and final shift you are already in high split and final gear.
    This will totally change your driving experience and most fast acceleration. Cheers

      We can agree on staring at 4 low. However, if you let the rpm in 4 low go above 2500 closer to 3000 and shift to 5 high. Than you are for a treat.
      This engine has the power to do that. And you do the last shift 6 high she’ll take you close to the moon😁.
      I’d like to see the race again with someone that know how to shift the gears against that American cab over. But mostly I would love to see a race with both trucks on fully loaded trailers going through a mountain pass.
      Uphill that truck would not have a chance. And I bet that downhill no American truck would be able to follow that speed. The retarder is insanely powerful.

    • @Grappenmaker
      @Grappenmaker 8 місяців тому +4

      Why would you rev a Scania up to 2500/3000 rpm? I like to treat my truck with respect. I just shared my ideal shift patern when driving without a trailer.
      But back to what you where saying, the Scania would smash the Freightliner in a race with trailer trough the mountains. With a driver who knows how to drive it indeed.

      Eh. Inline 6 is not a bad life. Like get a reality check the American trucks are just as awesome done right.
      But there is no denying that the Scania makes something special. It gets even better in real life with real trucking carrying cargo doing it for a living. Not just playing around in the backyard but living the real life.
      The sound of fully and most likely overloaded V8 Scania kited out, excused braking on the highway into a roundabout and then laying the V8 into the exist now that sound is worth dropping everything your doing to listen to in real life. Still the American trucks are still nothing to discount as not being up to the task or respect. ;)

    Not the correct way to use it, but for smoke at cruising speed, keep your foot down and press the exhaust brake with your left foot (small button on the left on the ground, looks like the highbeam switch in seventies chevy's) you'll muzzle the exhaustpipe and can create a mile long fume

      It also makes a sick fucking exhaust note used right. Well. Not sure what needs modifying or if it is the V8 alone that makes this things sound so good. Just need enough revs and enough cago load to slow down. Making the engine make the melody. I mean maybe it also comes down to the exhaust pipe not being stock.

    The red light in the tacho will go out when you put a tacho disc in the first slot.
    The tacho registers speed and driving time for two drivers.
    Behind the black "flap" is the disc for driver number 2, while he is not driving.
    When you change driver after the legal driving time, you swap discs.
    So put the paper disc from the old tacho in the position it is in in the old tacho, or take the disc from the new one from behind the black in between flap, and put it in the first driver position.

    Hello from Great Britain ( LoL )
    What you've got there built into that dash is the Old Stile Speedometer with ( Paper disk ) Tachograph Unit built into the rear.
    It's capable of carrying two disks ( one for each driver )
    Yeap in Europe having twin drivers on long distance runs is pretty common..
    That type of Tachograph unit has now been superseded by " Digital" units which take a driver card ( looks a lot like your bank / credit card ).
    Ps, that 3 over 3 ( with spitter) hence 12 forward speed box is very similar to the Eton Box commonly fitted to Britain trucks throughout the 1970 - 1980's
    It is a AWESOME BOX once you master it 😊
    Thou most trucks here are now fully automated ( drivers not even able to select gears ) just steer operate throttle & brakes 🤔
    A great many will be furmiliar with 16 gear truck gearboxes ( which where very common of 1990's trucks )
    Enjoy .. 😊

      Well kind of, but mostly no. In 1968 Scania (then named Scania-Varbis) bought Saab AB primarily to access there car manufacturing. The Idea was to make a vertical integrated vihicle manfacturing from everything from small hatchback up to big trucks.
      That make a lot of sense in 1968 when Scania made mostly medium size trucks (3.5-7 tons). This was in competition with Volvo that already making both cars and trucks since the 1920s.
      Around this time Scania trucks starting to become quite a bit larger, and over time. They try to merge the organization. But The car part just become losed more and more money over time.
      In 1995 they just given up on merging the car and trucks... It was really no point anymore. Scania by this point really produced only heavy to super heavy trucks and the car side just had ever grewing losses.
      Saab AB was created, and in turn Saab AB sold the car manufacturing to GM in USA, for the money. Saab that by that time made really mostly Aircrafts bought Bofors that just recently bought nobel industry (same as the nobel price) as well as celsius industries.
      In a later sort of industrial corrupt atement german Krupp try to effectivly close down swedish Kockums by buying and closing them down. But due to they produced defence submarines the swedish navy extracted all the documents, machinery and also a lot of personal and that was later injected into Saab. Saab also bought Ericsson radar during this period
      So over a very short period of time Saab went from being a Car and airplane manufacture to be a defense industry.
      The true irony of it is that Saab AB is a gigantic company nowadays, much bigger than it ever been before.
      Apart from making fighter planes the airplane manfacture also make landing gear, landing doors, control surfaces and a lot of composite for older Airbus airplanes. They pretty much made most of the composites for A380.
      When the A350 was made they started to make tooling in steed of composites, sort of one step up in the manufacturing. A350 is almost totaly composite, so Saab AB made almost all the tooling for the production line. So the industry making it is huge now.
      The saab aerospace head office is in Linköping where i Went to Unversity. Loads of my professors use to work in Aerospace when they was younger.

But then I did not get to drive the V8's in that job now did I? Early cold mornings and multiple V8's turn into life and pull out loaded. brumpbrumpbrump.

    Your right about the taco.
    It records speed,drivers hours,rest,other work and availability of work.
    There is a little dial at the bottom you can turn with pictures on which you use to put the taco into the mode you need it in.
    9 hours driving,4.5 hours 45 mins rest then 4.5 hours drive can be extended to 10 hours twice a week.
    Or 15 mins within 4.5 hours then a 30 min break,when unloading it goes onto other work.
    We have 60 hours work time directive to add to the driving time 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 uk

    • @TheDiner50
      @TheDiner50 8 місяців тому

      Yup. It more or less is the same in all EU states. I do not know what 60 hours work time directive is. But the rest is on point. In modern trucks you got a personal credit card you stick into a digital machine instead of that disk. So you can not just jump into a other truck since it it directly tied to you. Not the truck. This old disk system you had to keep the disks for record keeping for like 2 years or whatever it was? Now you just have the credit card that the popo can scan and check how much you have driven and worked etc. They do not have to hunt down all the disks and trucks to figure out if your cheating driving time limits.
      It also means that if you go over the speed limit and even just as much as hit like 120km/h in modern trucks you get rewarded with a penalty on your record! It is a bit more complicated but still the overall idea is what it is. It really is government state shit you in USA can rip out without a secound of hesitation!

    Love what you guys are doing here! I love that you love scania also - having driven on both sides of the Atlantic, they’re a whole lot better in terms of tech, power and comfort.
    Couple of things:
    If you want more smoke, then run the exhaust pipe full length of the chassis into a u bend, and then put 3-4 stages in, which will concentrate the beautiful v8 sound and the smoke. Check out the Greek scanias - the Greeks are experts at getting smoke an sound
    Secondly the little red light is because there’s no tachograph in slot 1

    Shiftingtip. Start low second, then split it up. Then split down, range it to high and the high gears will going in more smooth. Using that both on Volvo manual and Scania manual. Only using 3rd low when I am towing something or heavy loaded.

    • @TheDiner50
      @TheDiner50 8 місяців тому

      That single axle makes the truck so light and with a V8 in front. It starts easily in 3th low. But yes 2th high or low is the go to. 1th gear is when you know the hole truck is going to twist to get from a standstill.

    • @Necronomous
      @Necronomous 8 місяців тому

      @@TheDiner50 Well, it is a syncronized shifter. That means shifting from 4th to fifth gear, or high 3rd to low 4th, if I can explain it better, using the highend register, the gearbox won't be able to shift that fast. But if you go from high 2nd and shifting to the highend register the gears will be more fast and smooth. Otherwise you have to pull down the clutch for about 3-5 seconds before you put the highend register gears so the syncronization get their time to think.
      Started to do my thingy when I took my truckdrivinglicense. Even the teachers was found of my way. They never thought of that before, and it was so smooth. The classmates was impressed because it sounded so damn cool when I changed from the low register to the high register.

    The tachograph was something my dad used years ago, they were used as a daily log which was signed and dated and kept for sometime, each truck had one. Every now and then someone would come in and read them as it logged speed but also driver brakes etc, these were calibrated every few months to make sure they were accurate. A few people including my dad could right them by hand which was a skill on its self. But that was a first to be done when starting the truck and stored for a week with the driver then they would go to the office.

    The Tachograph warning light is on because its a 'Two Man' Tachograph and you need a card in each section. You have two cards in one section. See if the guys who sent you the dash can send you two plastic discs (we call them sleepers) as the needles will eventually cut through the cards.
    UK Tachographs have MPH as well as KPH on the dial...
    By the way that fuse box tips forwards to ease access to everything underneath (like the ECU!). I guarantee there is a pile of knitting under there given all the extra lights on the truck.

  • @MrPuggen
    @MrPuggen 8 місяців тому

    Since 2006 the recorder/tachograph is digital in every truck sold in EU.. You put in your special tachograph card in it. The tachograph register your speed. When you take your time of and so on. If you got pulled over by the police, they can see all this data just nu reading the card and the tachograph. If something not correct, you and the owner of the truck/freight forwarder can get some big ass fines. It's very strict with these regulations in the EU.
    I know that lot of older truck drivers missing these older analog tachograph because it's easier to cheat with those haha.
