Happy 21st birthday! Turning 18 is such a special milestone in one's life, especially when you're already 30 by that time. BTW, you look really young, I would have never guessed you are 45.
i cant believe hes turning 89 he looks so good for his age x
I was older when I was DD's age
I hate how hard this made me laugh
I can’t believe he’s turning 20 already, when I started watching he was only 58
This is so funny this community is awesome
That vest-sewn-on-shirt look wasn't just Mattel being cheap on details; they *actually* made and sold false-vest tops and people bought them and wore them, in suburban America, in 1996. I know, I saw my *own mother* wear one, a jaunty fall seasonal number with a faux turtleneck and little pumpkins embroidered on it. I can still see the cheap brocade when I close my eyes.
Oh god, that explains why I saw more vest sew on shirt than actual vests when I went thrifting looking for vests. I ended up leaving dissapointed, though I still bought 2 of them.
I remember those being all the rage with adults. A few of my teachers wore them.
Can confirm.
Your comment about Barbie's vest sewn onto her shirt has me screaming because that was actually a thing that companies did in the 90s lmao I remember my teachers having shirts with the vest sewn onto the front like that. It is still lazy, but it was absolutely something you would find at Walmart or Kmart in the 90s 😂
Only the front??
Ohh I’d love to see you rank all of the “Bridal Barbies”
Ohh, there's an idea 🤔
@@DarlingDollzooo
Rose Bride Barbie gave me Utena flashbacks 😭
@@ischeele7203well now I have an idea for a customization
@@DarlingDollzyes pls 🔔 🔔
Favorite quote: That’s not a Bob; that’s a Robert. 😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂
Lmao that took me out xD
Starlight Dance Barbie's dress is actually accurate to how it looks in the picture. But the way it was placed in the box made it look frumpy.
I think the reason why we don't get puffy dresses anymore is because they fell out of favor of the new generation. When we see formal dresses nowadays it's sleek and simple now. Which isn't bad by any means. It just shows how varied fashion and always changing it is for the human race.
See I’m gen z and don’t know anybody who doesn’t love a big poofy barbie ballgown
I feel the main reason is because big puffy dresses cost more to produce. And Mattel try to keep things as cheap as possible.
i think its because they use a lot of fabric and Mattel do everything as cheap as possible these days. Some male dolls just have painted legs instead of fabric pants!!! Its terrible. There was a Disney boy that has has a jacket and his shirt is just hanging down coz he has no pants it can be tucked into. Its a travesty
@@em84cI couldn't imagine all the amazing the design the designers have but being put aside in favor of more boring dolls because they are cheaper
Wow people really missed my fucking point. I only see one person who isn't immediately going "their just being cheap!" Can yall actually fuck off and actually contribute to my post and not just go with that immediately?
Honestly I’m here for wicked stepmother Barbie
i owned blossom beauty barbie and the flowers were not fragile, they were really stuck on there. i was obsessed with this doll, especially with the skirt flipping function and the glitter! and the way you could put the little glitter fairy into a pocket and it would conceal her within the dress! i always thought that was so cool
omg. i ALSO had an obsession with the movie free willy!!! that was the same reason my mom bought me ocean friends barbie!! she was my favourite and i loved the colour changing legs and the little orca
I also had this Barbie and I can l confirm those flowers stayed put.
Yes, confirming this too. The flower dress was made out of a plastic-like material, very sturdy to be handled by a kid lol
I totally forgot about the little fairy! This is unlocking so many memories for me 😂 I loved her!
I totally thought the flowers were pockets. I forgot about the fairy though.
I can't believe you'd say that about butter pecan, you're lucky it's bingo night or else I'd be going off.
I’m not in a nursing home and I love butter pecan ! Nothing wrong with that flavor. Only crave it during fall though
i recently saw angel princess barbie in person at an antique mall and just...she is so STUNNING. especially the AA version, she's so gorgeous. it was very difficult to leave the store without her...
Did you get her? I bet you did.
@@yuls_minki i left her unfortunately...i love that doll but i have to control myself because i'm so close to running out of space in my collection lmaooo
You have the fucking turtle pfp lmao
1996 was right around the time I started my 'adult' Barbie collection (ok I was 16 at the time but 🤷♀ it felt very mature to be buying my own dolls 😅). I was totally drawn to the floofy ballgown Barbies that were reminiscent of the ones I'd had as a kid in the 80s. I remember particularly loving Angel Princess, Blossom Beauty, Songbird, and Children Collectors Series Cinderella, as well as a ridiculously pretty collector Rapunzel that came out around then too (I thiiiiink the year before?). Never had any issues with the flowers on Blossom Beauty's dress, but I only ever had her on display, so I can't speak to how it would have stood up to regular stress from play.
This year is also memorable to me for the debut of Teen Skipper (and Nikki, and Courtney), who I was and still am inordinately fond of for having IMO one of the prettiest face sculpts Mattel has ever produced.
i am so pleasantly surprised your birth year still falls solidly within my childhood. based on how young you look (in a good way) i would’ve guessed this video would make my 30something ass feel old AF 😭
Shhh we're all 21 here 🥰 (lol same)
@@polly_nah can confirm. I've been 21 for 5 years now 🥰
I feel like this video is going to remind me of the bad years where I wasn't allowed to get Barbies anymore 😬 My mom thought 11 was pretty old for Barbie
@@MoonMoonTM lol I guess that makes me 21 for -1 years xD
Your humor fits so well with ranking videos. Would love an updated RH/SH ranking video if that is something you would like to make!
1996 was a pretty good year for Barbie. I have several of the ones on this list, and there are several others that I would love to add to my collection!
oh my god i loved the blossom beauty barbie commercial SO much. i haven't thought of her in two decades, seeing a picture of her now hit me like a nostalgic pink brick lmao
Oh gosh same! I didn't have her but I remember the commercial vividly and loving her dress 😅
The Angel Princess Barbie is captivating me, with her fluffy platinum hair. 🥰😍
I started excitedly listing which ones I had until I realized my mom just spoiled me rotten. 😂She was really out there giving a toddler collector's editions to play with lol
That inclination to adore every superstar in a big poofy gown is absolutely shared, I LOVE that era of Barbie
This was a real treat as a 90s Barbie girl.
Workin' out barbie is my all time fave. I got her for my birthday (I think my birthday?) In 1996 when I was 5. I remember bringing her to kindergarten. Her cassette tape was iconic and I still get the song stuck in my head at least once a month. "You! Me! Workin out workin out barbie!" I chewed the heck out of those rubbery shoes, 10/10 barbie, no critiques. Glad you included her.
Easy chic Barbie is hilarious. And as someone who graduated college in 1996 , some of the fashion definitely brought flashbacks. Neon dressed Barbie reminds me of a very distinctive outfit my mom bought me in that time - bright pink fuzzy sweater over matching pink stirrup pants ( which have not come back in fashion, shockingly).
I was also obsessed with Free Willy as a kid & also could not name any of the major plot points now. Lol it was SUCH a moment at the time tho
Happy 27th birthday! Thanks for always providing us with awesome content. Seriously I was so bored today and got so excited when I saw the upload :3
Thank you!!
Me to! I just got home from school and I went on UA-cam and saw that Darling Dollz posted, I’m so excited!
He's actually turning 17
Happy Birthday! That winter fantasy barbie actually made me look her up because I got some real "crimson peak" vibes so I thought it was funny that you got totally different vibes. Also wow there was some good barbies this year. I want that coca cola Edwardian barbie so badly. Edit: oh no there were three of these Edwardian coke bottles? and I want them all? and they're not insanely priced? oh no....
OH MY GOD YEAH SHE IS SO PRETTY
"All the people who are offended by it are probably in a nursing home and pose no threat to me."
Bold words from a man in his nineties, I'm just saying...
Happy birthday! I always enjoy your ranking videos :D
Happy birthday!
Shoppin' Fun would totally be a T-shirt PRINTED with a vest today. You know I've called it.
This is such a fun way to celebrate your birthday!!! I really wanna see what kind of Barbie’s came out the year I was born now…
I had a few of these! Winter Fantasy Barbie looked SO much better in the brunette version (which I luckily had). The dark hair worked a lot better with the darker lips and dress.
like you with free willy, i was OBSESSED with "oh brother where art thou" at that age. i would take the movie with me to watch at my grandma's when she would babysit me. i would watch it CONSTANTLY at home. do i know what it's about? absolutely not.
"That's not a Bob, that's a Robert" you're so funny ahahha
Oh my gosh, I had the orca barbie, songbird and the shopping one with Kelly. They were all hand me downs from my older cousins, and while some items where already missing (or I ended up losing lol) I still loved them!
PS: I'm not a collector myself but I've been enjoying watching your videos for a while now, reminds me a lot of the joy I had playing with Barbie as a child!
Omg I remember having a Barbie and Ginger set! That dog was low-key creepy. When the battery got low, it sounded like a demon dog 😅
96 Holiday Barbie is one of my favorite dolls. I absolutely loved her in 96 and still do. One of the first Barbie’s I bought when I got into collecting.
14:04 blossom beauty Barbie the flowers stayed on super well!! I remember having the dress for ages and I would toss it in with my Barbie clothes, it never got messed up.
Happy birthday! 🎉 Evening pearl barbie is so unhinged that I kinda love it
In 1996, my older sister was 6 and I was 4. So I can attest that the flowers on Blossom Beauty Barbie are very easily pulled off XD. Long after the doll met her demise, I would find the flowers floating around in the toybox.
happy birthday!!! if you're ever anxious about running out of video ideas, know that i for one wouldn't mind watching ranking videos like this for like every year of barbie releases
Happy Birthday!! Thank you for celebrating with us with such a great vid! For me, chocolate chip cookie dough and butter pecan are friends, not enemies. Although I will say butter brickle is superior to butter pecan, not to sound completely ancient. 😆
Songbird Barbie took my breath away! I've just met her and she's everything to me! The face, the hair, the dress; she is everything that's good in the world poured into a plastic doll mold. 💖
Honestly a video on poodle skirts would definitely be something I'd watch. I have seen some historical photo references of other designs than poodles, they could definitely be very fun for more thematic outfits, especially on dolls. I'm also curious about what other skirt designs could help signify the 50s.
Hey, that's the year I was born too! Great lineup here. Your comment about Easy Chic Barbie using her hat to smuggle TVs out of Best Buy made me straight up choke on my drink.
The blooming beauty Barbie flowered dress was actually very sturdy. I remember she went through a lot as a constantly kidnapped princess during my very complex playtime
I was well past the age of playing/collecting Barbies in '96, but I did have nieces that played with them. I remember most of these. Pink Ice Barbie is beautiful. I've always loved the little plumage puffs on her shoulders. So cute.💞💕
About the fragility of the flowers on Blossoming Beauty Barbie…they’re not actually too fragile, IIRC! She’s in storage at the moment so I’d have to get her out to check, though. She was one of my fav Barbies growing up! Her hair was so soft.
I was 6 in 96 so a lot of these are my childhood Barbies and this video gave me flashbacks to dolls I had entirely forgotten about! I had horse lovin’ barbie along with her horse (who walked) and a stable. I entirely forgot that my sister had songbird barbie and honestly the bit I remember most about her was her bird accessory that you could balance on your finger. My sister also had ocean friends barbie, but Keiko the orca belonged to me because I was the biggest orca nerd and loved Free Willy and Keikomore than anything else in the world 😂😂 the fact the toy orca even had Keiko’s three chin spots still amazes me to this day, it’s such a small detail but I remember being obsessed with it. I also had Ginger who was, indeed, an absolute queen.
I still have Keiko somewhere, the rest of the barbies moved on, but Keiko is eternal.
Omg my birthday is one day before yours (aka the day you uploaded this video). I absolutely adore you videos, all are such a treat to watch and I hope you have a great birthday!
omg Happy Birthday!! 🎉
Happy 68th birthday!! Your ranking vids are so much fun! It's so funny how our tastes are so similar but also extremely different imo cookies and cream and cookie dough are the same so i was so shocked when its revealed lol Also love your shirt! Slay your 22nd💕
Happy Birthday Cammy! I can mostly agree with everything but Butter Pecan being the bottom tier concept 😭😭 But I think Babs had a really nice 1996 for sure and a few of these were ones I loved but forgot about because there are just SO many dolls.
I didnt think a coca cola collab barbie would be one of my favorites on this list but WOW
13:55
i had this doll as a hand me down and the flower petals did hold up, though frayed on the edges. They had little spongy rings underneath each flower to help them stand up, which were very fun to pick off. I actually had no idea that was the doll the dress came from, I love watching these ranking videos and discovering the origins of my (now long gone) dolls and their outfits
Back when i was a newer doll collector, about seven years ago, I'd come from another collector community (vintage housewares) and one of my friends from there sold me her late mother's collection of Barbies, almost all from the '90s, alll in box; 100 dolls for $100! I recognize so many of them from your video. So nice. But i also just randomly have the Ginger dog Barbie's cute plaid pants from the thrift.
I had Blossom Beauty! I remember the flowers being pretty resilient, though the glitter-sprinkling fairy was more messy than fun.
I had a lot of these Barbies! Angel Princess and Blossom Beauty were gorgeous and I remember them fondly. The flowers on Blossom Beauty's dress were very sturdy! Each of the flowers were sewn on pretty well. I don't remember any falling off. Poor Angel Princess took a beating though! I don't know what I did as a child but the wings ended up getting super bent out of shape.
Blossom beauty's dress held up pretty well from what I can remember, it was so iconic and beautiful.
I also had song bird barbie, and i s2g i remember making her tge blossom beauty's little sister since their dresses had the same vibe.
And bubbling mermaid was great for the bath.
I had a distinctive memory of loving tiny branded products that came with the shoppinf barbie and kelly.
Ngl I love that trainwreck of a pearl outfit.
Random nostalgia wave for specifically the pink baby from 12:47. I swear we had that floating around the house somewhere. Nothing else. No Barbie, no other babies.
Happy birthday! And thank you for introducing me to so many dolls I would've never known about through all your videos, it's been a delight 😊
Recommend looking at that so sugary barbie site mentioned in the video, they have Barbie’s categorized by year and it’s so fun looking through your birth year!
@@KingOfGaymesI definitely want to, especially because my mom bought me one the year I was born that I still have in box ❤, i definitely wanna see what else was going on that year in Barbie world
Edit: I checked the site and the first two on the list are an anniversary Midge and a NASCAR one and if that doesn't describe my parents I don't know what does 😂
A perfect year for me to be born to them lol
I just knew butter pecan would be at the bottom, I knew it. How sad, such a delicious icecream. More for me though
I was the proud owner of a blossom beauty Barbie and I totally get what you mean about it just triggering all the happy chemicals in your brain. I remember just holding her and basking in the dopamine cascade that were those flowers and glitter on her dress. They were pretty darn strong too, she survived two year old me completely intact.
Happy birthday. I’m 43 and every year for almost a decade I’ve celebrated my 21st bday. I love that you mentioned older barbie dolls. I grew up with super star barbie and the 80s doctor barbie. I’m not finished watching this video yet but I hope you mention rapunzel barbie. I think she’s from 96 because I bought her that year (bought 2) one for me and one for my mother to send for Christmas She lived in a different state (it was my favourite bed time story she used to tell me) she still has hers but I don’t. It lives in a box in the basement. I kinda want to ask her for it to display in my large doll collection since I don’t have mine anymore. Love your videos and your vibe. Happiest of birthdays many months later lol
Always excited to watch your videos! Thank you so much for the effort you put into creating these vids 🥳
Why does your accurate description of Winter Fantasy Barbie remind me of one of the few funny SNL sketches, one that was cut for time. Its like something to do with my little step child or something.
10:48 this just makes me really hope that Barbie is still making those little movies of hers when Revolutionary Girl Utena becomes public domain
Happy birthday!🎉 I love your videos!💕
I was collecting Barbie's in 1996 so I KNOW there were a bunch that came out. I just am enjoying the walk down memory lane. I had blossom Beauty Barbie and those flowers were sewed on and did not come off. Wish I still had her. I still have the miniature doll with the glitter inside for some inexplicable reason though LOL. Thanks for the video!
Yeees!! Happy birthday!! I love your videos so much Darlingg, thank you for posting!! I'd love to see a tour of your collection btw
1995/1996 is that transition period between the early 90’s dolls and their aesthetics, and the late 90’s dolls with theirs. The early 90’s dolls had a more colorblocked and cartoonish aesthetic, with fashions to reflect that. It looked like Saved by the Bell on steroids. But the late 90’s dolls started taking on a more natural, realistic appearance with more muted colors and fashions. It’s very evident with the Superstar face; the earlier dolls will have louder makeup and big blue eyes with blue pupils, and big fluffy blonde hair. The later dolls will have smaller eyes with more intricate details and black pupils, with more contemporary hairstyles.
Evening Pearl Barbie’s hair reminds me of delta work but in the best way possible
very delta
This video was such a trip down nostalgia lane! I recognized so many of these dolls and my sister and I had the following:
Angel Princess Barbie
We both got this doll as a Christmas present and she was a favorite of my sisters. I later took the angel wings off my doll to play with them on other toys lol
Beaupeep Barbie
I do not remember the doll herself, but I do remember the bloomers and the shepards crook. So either the og doll was lost or those items were taken from a cousins doll.
Working Out Barbie
A favorite of mine! She was the first bendy Barbie we had. Also my mom worked out to those home VHS tapes allot, so we use to make the dolls do the same poses as her.
Blossom Beauty Barbies
Another that we had two of, and the dress flowers did fall off. They think they were sewn on, but I pulled off all the loose ones that were on mine. I remember collecting them into a little bag to play with. Also that little glitter fairy bottle got cracked open during a move and Covered all our toys in that box with glitter.
Bubbling Mermaid Barbie
My all time favorite bath toy! Her color changing tail blew my little mind.
Also her tails was not solid plastic! It was actually hollow. That’s how you got it to blow bubbles, you would squeeze the tail to push out the air through her bubble wand crown. You could also squeeze the air out of her underwater to make bubbles in the bath that way.
Thank you for making this video! I hope you had a lovely birthday!
Happy Birthday! I absolutely love your videos and I know so many other people do too! Keep up the fabulous work and have a wonderful day ❤️❤️❤️
Happy birthday! Love your videos! Wish you all the best 🥳
Happy birthday!!! I love listening to your videos :)
This video actually helped me identify some dolls I recently got at a yard sale! I was just picking out anything bright and pretty and I got the hula hair doll, and a doll wearing the workout outfit. Sadly none of the dolls and outfits matched up perfectly but they were only $3 each so who can complain
Happy birthday btw!!!
Starlight Dance Barbie was my first barbie when I was a toddler. I still have her somewhere with her updo sort of intact. She has rooted eyelashes, I think.
Happy Birthday Cammy! Love your content as always. Wish u the best and more ❤
I love how informative and fun your videos are. Happy birthday!
At first when you said you were born in 1996 and turning 21 this year you had me second guessing my own age because I was born in 2002 and did turn 21 this year (or so I thought 🤨) 😭🤣 happy birthday!!! 🥳
Happy Birthday! Love your videos😍🎂
Happy birthday!! love ur vids and ur style!
Happy birthday, best wishes!!! And thank you for the quality of your videos, I love the topics you talk about and the overall aesthetic!💖💕
Happy birthday girlie!!
I have a Christmas ornament of 1996 Cinderella and she's always the last one I put up and the one I put in the center of the tree. She still has chocolate smears in her hair from me carrying her around so much as a toddler and I love her.
Also, my mom had the white dress collector doll that didn't look like it delivered in person, but it does! We weren't allowed to play with her but I would pretend that she was Neo Queen Serenity from Sailor Moon
happy birthday !!! ✨

I had Blossom Beauty Barbie! I don't remember the flowers being fragile and I absolutely pulled and tugged on them. I also had Songbird Barbie!
I love your ranking videos ❤
I remember wanting the Blossom Beauty Barbie when it came out. I was like, 3. But that fairy that sprinkles glitter was like the most magical thing to my 7-year-old brain.
happy birthday!! wishing you the sweetest year yet 🎉
