  • 1966.....#14 U.S. Billboard Hot 100, #11 U.S. Cash Box Top 100, #1 UK Singles, #1 Canada, #13 Australia, #2 New Zealand
Original video edited and AI remastered with HQ stereo sound.
"Sunny Afternoon" is a song by the Kinks, written by chief songwriter Ray Davies. The track later featured on the Face to Face album as well as being the title track for their 1967 compilation album. Like its contemporary "Taxman" by the Beatles, the song references the high levels of progressive tax taken by the British Labour government of Harold Wilson. Its strong music hall flavour and lyrical focus was part of a stylistic departure for the band (begun with 1965's "A Well Respected Man"), which had risen to fame in 1964-65 with a series of hard-driving, power-chord rock hits.
Released as a single on 3 June 1966, it went to No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart on 7 July 1966, remaining there for two weeks. The track also went to No. 1 in Ireland on 14 July 1966. In America, it peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart early autumn 1966. The promotional video for the single featured the band performing in a cold, snowy environment.
Billboard praised the single's "off-beat music hall melody and up-to-date lyrics." Cash Box said that it is a "slow-moving, blues-drenched, seasonal affair with a catchy, low-key repeating riff." "Sunny Afternoon" was placed at No. 200 on Pitchfork Media's list of The 200 Greatest Songs of the 1960s.

THE KINKS were really unique, gentle, harsh sometimes and way ahead of their time. Listening to their entire catalog of music tells the audience just how much they were about the message and not the fame. That is the trademark of a true artist! You think, you do, you listen. Thankyou Kinks...you really get me!

I just listened to this piece of magical artistry from the Kinks. Ray's facial expressions are captivating and alluring. I was born in 1968 but my mother was a senior in high school when this played. She absolutely loves the video and song. She has also claimed Ray as her boyfriend but he just doesn't know it yet, 😂😆. Take care 🙂

In 1966 I wasn't born yet..today casually listening to the radio I heard this song and..I was thrilled by the beauty of the song..I honestly thought it was the Beatles as they sound very similar and instead..I discovered a amazing group that I didn't know. Thank you so much for uploading the video! Subscribed to your channel on the fly.

I'm 63 & I am sure I have never seen a performance for this song.I sure remember growing up with it.There are many songs in my lifetime that I've become convinced I'll never see a performance from that time when song was new.Layla fr 1972 by Derek & the Dominos is 1 of those. Thanks for this post😊

Ray Davies is so punk !❤
Clearly put put for having to lip sync
He is deliberately singing off sync !😂❤
    I love his grumpiness
You can totally see his face
And not the way he looked all happy singing Lola live ! ❤😂

Excellent job on both the track and the video, Smurf. The Kinks bassist, Peter Quaife, isn't in this vid because he'd been in a car crash and was recuperating, which prompted the band to hire John Dalton as a temporary replacement, who became permanent later on, after Pete returned, but then quit the band.
There is another video in circulation that shows Dalton joining them on "Sunny Afternoon" that was broadcast on the same day he was hired.

@@smurfstoolsoldiesmusictimemach No, Smurf; your link shows Pete Quaife at 0:19.
Here's the vid with Dalton. As the story goes, he'd been working a construction job when he got the phone call to show up for "Top Of The Pops" that night. He's at 1:05, wearing a white turtleneck.
Pete played on "Sunny Afternoon", when The Kinks recorded it in May 1966, but John played on "Dead End Street" when they recorded it that October.
NB: It's possible that John did not play on "Dead End Street" and that Dave played all the bass parts on it.
John definitely played on its B-side, "Big Black Smoke".

I'm not hearing any problems. The DES stereo was created by an audio engineer. The video itself is AI upscaled.

Idk why but the music playing in my right ear makes me feel weird. My right ear feels like I've got something covering it or water blocking it but my left ear feels normal.
