THE JILL SCHOELEN ("THE STEPFATHER") INTERVIEW

- 29 years ago, actress Jill Schoelen (The Stepfather, That Was Then…This Is Now, Popcorn) abruptly retired from acting at the height of her career. Now, as she makes her triumphant return in front of the camera, we are thrilled to have her join us for a beautiful conversation about self-worth, empathy, generational trauma, and how to leave the world better than how we came into it.
Beginning with her first theatrical role in Joel Schumacher's D.C. Cab, to being cast alongside Emilio Estevez and Craig Sheffer in S.E. Hinton’s That Was Then…This Is Now, to her experience joining the cast of slasher Popcorn after more than half of the film had already been shot, Jill’s performances are always memorable.
Jill shares how problematic the writing for female characters was in the 80’s, and discusses her time on screen in Thunder Alley, Rich Girl, & Little House On The Prairie. The cup of gratitude & joy runneth over in this interview. Jill is phenomenal person with a great perspective!

I find it hard to believe that Jill doesn't get invited to horror conventions. I certainly remember her, as she was a major movie crush of mine. She's still adorable!
She’s the genuine article. Super cool person 😊
I love Jill Schoelen ❤ For me she is a natural, a terrific actress and should have been in more big movies. I actually asked Monstermania to bring her to the east coast. And she wouldn’t be a side table for me she would be the first person I’d want to meet. :)
Stay tuned for more Jill in the future 😊
Jill is so cool. So pretty
Thank you for this great interview with Jill! I’ve always thought she is so pretty and I love her in anything she does. One of my favorites of her movies is ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ with Robert Englund (aka Freddy Krueger.) It’s great to see her now. This is the first interview of hers that I’ve ever seen! Many thanks to her for all her great work over the years. She was brilliant in every movie she did, at least all the films I’ve seen so far. She was great in ‘The Stepfather’ (1987) as well! I re-watched it and it led me here. I hope life is being kind to her.
🌹
So glad you found us! Jill is as wonderful as you’d hope! She will be back on next month as well for a “festive” discussion 😊
Wonderful interview with this wonderful actress who seems so genuine. I mentioned in a clip of a segment of this how much I loved her in Thunder Alley, my favorite role of hers, but she was so good with a Roger Wilson. She’s was talking about how women were not encouraged to take the lead in scenes like the one’s she had with Roger, but she had most of the speaking lines in her scenes with him, encouraging his character and calling him out on his BS, and her character truly loved him, and I just thinking, most guys, and I’m one of them, would crave a women like that in their life, and I’ve dated that type, when I didn’t fully appreciate it, until it was gone, and then I was like what did I do. Anyway, wonderful actress and great interview. You guys rock. Thank you:)
Chris, you get it! And you’re rad! Thanks for being a part of the $2 Family!
Thank you for creating great content. I’m always letting people know about films that deserve more attention:) Another Cannon film that I love is Making the Grade with Judd Nelson. I’ve introduced it to friends, who mainly enjoyed it:)
@@chrisgrove7829 thank you for all the positive feedback!
Most people were so stoked that Elvira was on Joe Bob Brigg's Last Drive-In Halloween special last year. I was super stoked that Jill Schoelen was on it!
We need Jill at conventions! My gf and I would love to meet her and get posters signed
This was an absolutely awesome interview that truly tugged at my heartstrings. Jill Schoelen is such a beautiful and amazing person! Zak is also awesome for the daily messages he leaves for Bodhi.
Thank you!!! Yeah, Jill is fantastic! Zak is ok too 😜
.... Jill should be asked to the horror conventions year after year after year! When a Stranger calls back is such an entertaining movie!!
Something tells us she’s gonna start gaining momentum this year!
@@twodollarlatefee my hopes are that that is completely true. I really like When a stranger calls, its really reminiscent of a 90s episode of the X-files. Perhaps the x files emulated the film a bit. On a side note, I liked how the film was all so mysterious and it did not resort to any kind of Ultraviolence or mean-spirited gore and sadism. It got its message across by showing very little blood and violence.
Jill you are still such a BABE! Fellas great great stuff!
thanks, amigo!
Popcorn is in my regular October horror film lineup. Not only was she super cute, she seemed really down to Earth and a nice young woman. She really gave her character alot of depth for that such genre.
Popcorn is terrific! Hope you enjoyed the interview!
Jill Was Great In The Stepfather.
Agreed!
Jill forgot to mention that her PHANTOM OF THE OPERA movie with Rob Englubd was indeed produced by Golan (via the company he´s opened after Cannon folded).
P.S.--Sent you guys an email message a few days ago
Jill is brilliant in the stepfather. ❤️
Agreed! Don’t be surprised if she’s back on the show soon 😉
Jill is the most unsung scream queen of the 80s.
She should have been in Stepfather 2.
I'm watching cutting class, she was so cute!!
