Same! Even though I was smart, I wasn’t mature enough for school at the time. I did a bunch of odd jobs. Finally said to myself that I need a career. I still really liked business. I talked to the program administrator and explained myself. I got a conditional acceptance into a MS Acc program. I killed it and earned a scholarship. I got a job at a local cpa firm. Kept grinding then evenly got a job offer from a big 4. If I can do it, ANYONE can do it! If accounting/tax is your passion, it will show.
omg, so refreshing... I feel like all accounting students are 3.8 students and here I am a part time student... sometimes one class at a time.. struggling to maintain a 3.0 in my accounting classes. I finally graduated this May and I doubt I can get into Big4 with my academic track record, so going to try for smaller firms... At times I have hated accounting... but it is like a bug I can't get rid of, I do enjoy learning accounting, just not all the time, it can be overwhelming... but I'm not quitting... one day I will be a pro!
Everyone's path is different, but eventually we'll end up in the same spot if that's the goal. If Big4 is the goal, then I'd suggest not giving up on that. But there are pros/cons that you should consider with Big4
You should apply to the big four. What is the worst that can happen? They say no and waste some time? It is not the end but everyone ends up the same spot with their goals. I am applying for the big four next year.
It is said that there are only 2 best teachers in the world: Prof Life & Prof Error (aka Prof Mistake). It seems they both taught you well & here you are with your well-earned success! Your story is very inspirational. Realize that you have graduated from the School of Hard Knocks & you will have been taught more than any Ivy League'rs will ever know!
Thank you for sharing your experience. I am wanting to do a MAcc. I have a bachelor's in art. My first round of university was not good. I was so lost, doing way too much, and totally messed up my gpa. I think mine is a 2.8. I am a bit worried on where to start but currently contacting the program at my local university. Thought I wanted to go into healthcare but after working in the field for a little bit now and taking some courses, I am now wanting to make a switch to accounting.
Hi im planning to start my journey of cpa here in canada being an international student it's really tough to manage request if anyone is willing to pair with me to achieve the goal !

Nice, great to hear I'm not the only one
That was me. 2.97 GPA. Just finished my Masters degree. Working on my CPA now.
Congrats, it's a huge accomplishment :)
I thought you cannot graduate with MS unless your GPA is at least 3.0, no?
@@incky-pinky Not sure
@@incky-pinky Totally depends on the program/school!!
@@incky-pinky Maybe he's referring to undergrad GPA

Which one of the big 4’s you was with? I’m looking to go with either Kpmg or PWC. Any feedback on these firms?
Any of Big4 will be a great career starter
She is so beautiful ❤
Hi, may I Dm you for more insight information about the DAP program learning about Power BI you took while doing your internship? Thanks!
Ah sure, I can't remember much. I mostly worked in Alteryx and 1 small project with Power BI. I can't even remember where to start with Power BI 😅
which is your title in tech ? how did you land that position?
Through a reference
@@kaythecpa I am interested in your story about transitioning to tech as I have considered jumping ship for tech instead of accounting... :)
Sure, it helps if you have a reference. But it seems like most tech right now are laying people off. I myself got laid off from the tech job in 2022.
I had a 3.7 grade scale I did really good
Cool!
Hi can I contact u? I Need your advice on something. Your email would help. Thanks. Your video has really helped me
Thanks for watching but I have said I do not give advice
