I definitely have not found them surface feeding yet this spring. You must be timing it just right or something. I've tried the Tempe and Scottsdale canals.
I fished the Tempe canals yesterday, and about 1 out of 20 grass carp I saw was feeding on top... the rest were digging into the mud on the sides/edges of the canals. You just kind of have to wait ... If they are staying in the middle of the canals, they usually will surface every now and again for some bugs/flowers. 🙂✌️🎣

I have gotten them on beetle patterns in Maricopa. They like to forage in all that flotsam. I had to do 5x though. They seemed to avoid thicker tippet
Yeah, I was doing pretty light line for awhile there, but after a lot of practice and seeing how they like the flies, I've been able to move up to 10-15lb test line and still catch them regularly. It's such a blast!! 🙂🙂✌️🎣
