    Wow this is most interesting, i love it 😍. It’s so different then anything I’ve seen before. They do look abandoned, the police taped one apparently they were or are doing some sort investigation on something. I’m just enthralled here. Feel like I’m in a woods if not for some city sounds. Golden Jesus is amazing. Gosh I can’t even think what to say. Just loved it 😍 thanks for taking us heck I don’t care about the rest of them, thanks for taking me along 😂 JK. Greetings from Prague. Unfortunately, the cemetery is neglected - there is no money for renovations, you can even buy tombs with corpses, or donate online for renovations. Since these are very old graves, the survivors are also no longer alive, so the graves of famous personalities can also be purchased. This cemetery is also the site of occult séances. They even buried countless mummified cats in empty graves, I think it was some vet who got rid of the bodies like this and kept the owners' fees for the rendering. Those two-story tombs are also for sale, with coffins on top. When you come here again, I can show you around other interesting cemeteries :)

      To buy and sell a grave or a mozillam that's been used? That's absolutely horrible. Although they have passed away they are still human beings and deserve respect. And I'm sure they paid for those accommodations in advance. This is definitely the 1st time I've heard many countries allowing such a thing.

      @@deadgoodwalks they most definitely are! I remember as a kid walking down a cut through where I used to live that just happened to have a cemetery just off to the side of it. The church was real old, I think it was about 900 years old back then, so my dad told me.....and I would always stop and look at a particular headstone through the railings which belonged to a sea captain....think it went back to around 1650 ( or something like that)....it was well old anyway. My imagination would run wild tryinging to visualise what sort of person he was, what he looked like, his life etc. It's the same with me now, if I'm ever near to a churchyard I cannot just walk by but have to stop and have a look. Glad I found your channel, I'm obviously now a subscriber. 👍🏻

      That’s not morbid, I too have this fascination, a graveyard brings a strange kind of rest/ peace. You know you could be there too at some time in the future and a lot of people I knew already are. Their life ended and they are peacefully in the ground, while I’m still standing. I remember things they said and did, that way they will never really be dead.
      At the same time older graves of people I never knew also inspire thought. Who they were in life, with their daily worries and happinesses. And now they are here in the ground, some of them already longer then I’ve been living. From a time when life was so terribly different. What would they say if we could resurrect them now?

    Many areas in Southern states of America are below sea level, so mausoleums are built & no one is buried in the ground. There are several in New Orleans with architectural style similar to this one. Toured through one a few years ago. Another unusual thing about those particular cemeteries is they actually have a parade, with one or two piece band playing & singing & dancing, When the Saints Go Marching In & other songs. Of course since we were there, we were asked to join in. We did till we reached our gate to leave. What an experience!

      A friend of mine was born and raised in New Orleans. The water table is so high that after a heavy rain the coffins in the ground float.
      She had one relative they called “Floatin’ Harold.” Whenever there was a lot of rain, he’d float and dislodge the stone covering the grave. When his mother died, they buried her on top of him in the same hole, after drilling holes in his casket.
      They also covered the gravesite with a huge, heavy, concrete slab.
      And they say you can’t keep a good man down. Her words

    I'm not an expert on this, but in the States it's become common practice to permanently seal mausoleums once the remaining family passes. This isn't always the case, especially in cemeteries that are still highly active and are being maintained but even in those, staff may choose to permanently seal a mausoleum that meets the above criteria and is continually being broken in to and desecrated. I would assume that is the case here as well.

    21:24 The tombs are walled up because homeless people and drug addicts sleep here. The city owns these tombs, the family line long ago died out or sold these ruins. Rent is paid here too, and it's not cheap. Therefore, the tombs are put up for sale, but they are so expensive that no one is interested. The entrance is walled up until the new owner renovates them in the future. In addition, there are still dead people in these tombs - their removal is expensive and expensive, so the tombs are sold with the dead and this financial and morbid obligation is left to the new owners, who will of course want to bury their family here and therefore have to clear out the original coffins . This is how it works - you don't pay for a grave site, so it is sold to new owners even with a corpse inside. It is then practically "thrown away". So when a family dies and there is no one to take care of the grave, it is very sad... Tombs and graves with statues are trying to preserve the city, but the simple "recent" graves of ordinary people have no chance to survive.

    Fascinating video. I spent time in Germany in the 80s and 90s and visited many cemeteries similar to this one. Some of those mausoleums apart from being grand old buildings, some are still used and well looked after. Some of the deeply religious folk who are still alive and have family members in mausoleums visit and pray next to the crypt or urns hence the knee rests on the ground. The decrepit mausoleums usually belong to families that have all since passed on, and no longer looked after unless the town council has funds to do so. The example of the mausoleum with the bedsheets and broken front, wouldn't surprise me if this was grave robbers who knew the family were once wealthy, so go looking in what's left of the coffins below in the family crypt in the hope of finding rings and jewellery.

    When watching these kind of videos, I think that my problems that I face now in life are insignificant in the great scheme of things. Our lives, our memories, our very existence, poor or rich, famous or unknown, sick and healthy, we will all end up as ash or dust. It's almost comforting in a somewhat bleak way.

    This cemetery is quite intriguing. Lovely old mausoleums, but it's a pity to see most of them in such a poor condition. They seem to be abandoned for a long time, it's hard to understand. Once they were built to remember special persons, to glorify their life, and surely with the intention to be laid to rest there as well. Why are they all deserted? Rusty, spider webs, dusty and debris everywhere. There is nearly no coffin to see, and why are some of the floors broken? Were some of the bodies taken elsewhere? But why build such an eleborate and surely expensive shrine? I cannot understand that. And I am wondering what the text on these little paper flags says, that are pinned on some of the doors that are closed with just concrete. The second storey on some of the Mausoleums were meant as ventilation for the odd smells that could erase from a corpse.

    • @aggregat
      @aggregat Рік тому

      I think that these paper flags are messages to owners that rent time of this place is over and there is not actual addres of owner available. Maybe that there are still some descendants but they even do not know that their family 130 years ago had such tomb. These mausoleums were built by people many years ago and they paid rent for example 100 future years. Cemetry is owner of land and rent it to people for purposes of simple graves or mausoleums. They are in such bad conditions because their owners do not care. If you rent such place you can completely remove tombs and build your own.
