Nice job on the modified slimline pen Robert, that mahogany blank really looks great! Bob Blanford over at RJBWOODTURNER asked me to check your channel out and I am so glad that he did! Keep up the great work and I’m looking forward to seeing what else you get up to.
Hi Robert. Hi from Australia. Good video, nice to see you using a good pen press. The pen looks real good. Keep up the good work. People like me who are just learning pen turning need people like you and Bob (RJBWoodTurner) to show us in detail of how to do it. Regards from Ernie in Tuena Australia
I did one awhile back after watching RJB’s video. Mine looks a lot like yours - used a Cocobolo blank. I’ve only done one, but plan to do more. Thanks for sharing your pen.
Nice video ,good description of your process and the items you use to make a pen,pen came out great nice looking.Bob sent me here to see your process on making pens. Bernie
I purchased my lathe about 6 months ago, and got a kit with it that include everything I needed to get started making pens, including some slimline pen and pencil kits, which I have made a few. Want to get some more pens "under my belt" but definitely interested in trying modified/custom pens at some point. Thanks!
WickedZen Thats awesome! I completely understand getting a few pens under your belt. The modified kits intimidated me at first, but then I eventually jumped into the deep end, and it’s actually a lot of fun.
I've made 2 of these pens, and for what ever reason, the end with the ink cartridge is very hard to slip into the blank, and almost impossible to remove the nib with the brass tube. I'm trying to sand down the inside of this end currently with a wooden dowel pin, and sand paper attached to it. Any thoughts on why this end is being such a pain? The other end has the brass tube glued into it, and it fit perfectly. I used a 7mm drill bit to drill out the blank prior to turning.
Mine have been difficult to remove as well. I’m not completely sure why, but I’m guessing it has to do with the friction fit of the components. Thanks for checking out the video!
Mark Tabacca Thanks Mark! I have seen his video about the feet. I just got the pen press in the video for my birthday, so I’ve only used it twice so far. I need to add feet as well as put a felt pad on the pressing end.
Very cool. And yes Bob sent me here, lol. Now on to more of your videos.

Mark Tabacca It really is. It’s a huge upgrade from my old press. The adjustments are exponentially easier.
