I'm getting back into turning pens. Giving the bowl turning a break. A friend of mine asked me to start making him a steady flow of pens so he can give then away to his customers. Sounds like fun! Wanted some new ideas and that's how I found your channel. What I have seen is great. Very professional and good presentation. That is a superb idea with removing the band. Going to try it first chance. Thanks as always for your time and effort.
Tom Wilcox thank you very much for the feedback. I pass out a lot to customers as well and these pens are inexpensive and open to a lot of different styling techniques. I think you will have a lot of fun.
You've solved a problem for me because I was asked o make a 'fat' slimline last week and I didn't want the pen to look like a wasp with a thin waist. Thank you. Best Wishes, Brendan.
What a great idea I had never thought of that before thanks for showing. You have just opened up a whole range of idea's for me using this technique. Also I'm really impressed with your presentation skills, I always look like a mumbling Muppet when I'm in front of a camera :-) Great video. All the best. Tony.
I don't think you needed to account for the band with excess material at all because there is excess room in a slim-line's assembly anyway. You can test this by taking a slimline which you've made previously, removing the band and pushing the turned cap onto the back of the pen. When you do that, it should fit together just fine.
The standard slimline pens get old really fast LOL. Its great to be able to modify them and make them into other forms rather than the plain dull and boring slim design.
+William Todd (williamtodd) it is easy to get creative once you take the center bushing out. all kinds of possibilities. thanks for watching. have fun and be safe
great idea, nice shape (I like the bigger pens more than the thin ones). thx for showing and sharing. I will try it next...
Always great to learn from other turners. Many thanks Declan

Making a cigar pen with a slimline kit. That's something I will have to try
Well I know what I'll be doing today :) Thanks for taking the time to produce the video.
It's a fun project. I hope you have a great day.

baconsoda Thanks for the feedback. I have found that you can form and style these pens just about anyway you want. Good luck.

Thanks Tony, the secret is in editing. You will never know how many bloopers there were in making the final product.

***** you are right, and i have made many pens without the band, the band really works best to add a contrast to the pen

excellent idea.. cheers
Thanks for the kind feedback.
How would you dismantle to replace ink barrek?
Thank you sir very interesting
can you make a slimline shorter ,,,,
I think the pen transmission and length of the ink cartridge would make shortening the pen length difficult.
