GENERAC CLICKS FAILS TO CRANK & GOES RIGHT TO PROGRAM MODE

  • I HAD REPAIRED THIS GENERATOR IN NOVEMBER OF 2022 WHEN IT HAD A BAD STARTER RELAY.
    THE OWNER PERFORMS HIS OWN MAINTENANCE AND ACTUALLY REPLACED HIS OWN BATTERY BACK THEN AND REVIEWING MY VIDEO I COULD SEE THAT ONLY THE FIRST ALARM WAS IN 2023. THE OTHERS WERE A RESULT OF THE PROBLEM IN 2022.
    I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE YELLOW LED WAS DUE TO SERVICE SCHEDULE A, NOT B.
    WHEN I REPLACED THE STARTER RELAY I REMOVED THE BATTERY TO DO SO. INSTALLED IT ONCE COMPLETED.
    LONG STORY SHORT. THE OWNER SERVICED HIS GENERATOR AND I THINK HE TURNED THE BATTERY AROUND.THEN. EITHER WAY, I SAW HIM LATER AND HE TOLD ME THAT HE HAD TIGHTENED THE TERMINALS EVEN MORE.
    ON THIS REPAIR IT EVEN LOOKED AS THOUGH THE ANTI-OX HAD BEEN WIPED OFF.
    THIS FAULT IS COMMON TO A BATTERY PROBLEM. IT COULD BE; AN OLD BATTERY, A BAD BATTERY, A BAD BATTERY CONNECTION OR JUST THE LOSS OF THE BUILT IN TRICKLE CHARGER.
    I BROUGHT ALONG A REPLACEMENT BATTERY AS THAT BATTERY WENT THROUGH A LOT WHEN THE GENERATOR HAD THE BAD STARTER RELAY.
    I DON'T LIKE LOOSE CONNECTIONS EVEN THOUGH THE LOOSE CONNECTION WAS TO THE STARTER ONLY. ON THE FACTORY SIDE OF THE POST. I TIGHTENED THAT NUT WHILE AVOIDING OVER TIGHTENING AND TURNING THE WHOLE POST.
    ALL OF THE GENERACS THAT I'VE WORKED ON HAVE DIRECTIONAL BATTERY TERMINALS WHERE ONE SIDE HAS A BEVELED EDGE WHICH GOES ON FIRST. THE OTHER SIDE HAS A SQUARE EDGE WHICH NORMALLY REQUIRES FORCE TO GET IT TO GO ON WHEN INSTALLED UPSIDE DOWN.. (MOST PEOPLE ASSUME THAT THE BATTERY CONNECTOR IS SPREAD OPEN ENOUGH AND FIGURE A LITTLE FORCE WILL DO THE TRICK.)
    THE NEW BATTERY TERMINAL REPLACEMENT THAT I INSTALLED DOES NOT HAVE THE BEVELED EDGE SO I INSTALL IT WITH THE WIRE ON THE TOP WHERE I CAN SEE IT.
    IF IT DOESN'T WANT TO GO ON I SPREAD IT OPEN A BIT MORE BY LOOSENING THE NUT AND OPENING THE END A BIT MORE.
    PROBABLY DIDN'T NEED TO VIDEO MY CHECKING TO MAKE SURE THE FRONT WAS INSTALLED PROPERLY. IT WAS JUST PART OF WHAT I DO.
    I ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE SERVICE SCHEDULE WAS DONE WHICH SHUT OFF THE YELLOW LED.
    THE RED LED WENT OUT WITH THE REPAIR AND THE GREEN ONE CAME BACK ON.
    I'LL CHECK LATER TO INSURE THE REPAIR IS ALL IT NEEDS AND THAT THE TRICKLE CHARGER WAS ABLE TO BRING THE BATTERY BACK UP TO FULL CHARGE.

    You need to stick to driving the Wheelbarrow and avoid having to reverse.
