I was alone and I was going through a rough phase in life. Depressed, stress eating, started drinking but fortunately I had my brother who is also a badminton player. He motivated me to come play regularly everyday and he helped me get back in shape and made me realize how much I love this game and how much I missed playing this game. So much strength and power to you bro. Good luck and you can definitely do it! Cheers mate.
Great acting! I really felt involved and that you were frustrated with your knee😂 good luck with your resolution, you'll get back in no time, and you've got all of us to help too!
Although it's been 2 years since this vid, I still remember my past. How I wanted to compete in nationals. I remembered how my friends and family weren't as goal oriented as I was in badminton, so I had to travel 1 hr 30 min just to practice and also to be surrounded by like minded people. Even then I was introverted so they weren't really part of my life. I felt alone and I had to quit. Although I'm no longer training for badminton, now I am back in the gym and the biggest motivation for me is that in my gym there are post-it notes of people and their reasoning why they keep going. Every time I go to the gym I always look at it and it definitely lit a fire up my ass. It reminded me that I could be so much more and I am not alone. I'm very glad this video exist.
Guess what, I started practicing badminton 2 years ago. I would be so reluctant to do it back then. I had to undergo a difficult, arduous process to control my mind and myself to practice it consistently. Now, I was able to be consistent and effective in my practices for only 3 days a week for as long as I can. No one give shit about me, and There were some people probably looking down on me but I didn’t care because you know how? Everyone check out David goggins. The core of his mentality and toughness is to be SELF DRIVEN. I was self driven and now I can look down on them when they are afraid and weak every time I pass by them. I LIKE THAT FEELING, IT GIVES ME THE POWER OVER THEM. This should serve as an example of when people try to bring you down, they are already below you..
Mr. Beckman you already have a glimpse of the power of your soul when you believe. For me you already at the pinnacle, all the best in your plans for the future.
Ben, all the very best for your latest project, a great idea. I am myself too trying to get in better shape to play better badminton. I wish you all the best and thank you for the honesty in your videos. Please keep us up to date with your progress on how you are get on. Looking forward to seeing to smash the 1000 shuttles with even better form!👍
It's true. it's hard to develop without support. I tried a lot of times to start training alone like running, workout, footwork, shots without shuttlecock, jumping over roap and so on. But it caused I gave up. I thought about leaving aside other things like studying and job and just focusing on training. For example to go to a badminton center or to a good coach. But I think it's also not the best way I mean going nap because nobody knows what it will result in and hardly anyone needs you. I mean to spend time on your development.
Same as me ! I stopped in 2007 with a national level... then 2020 is my comeback to that game, try'n to getting back my legendary defense and nuclear smash ! With all my support dude 😉
I have been playing badminton since many years not pro level but club level and em decent player. Now I have put on weight almost 102 kg me waist 42... Please make videos on some without equipment exercise.. I have started badminton again as my friends motivate me along my back to fit journey... Nice video
You didn’t mention the “why.” Why do you want to get into the exact shape as you were in your peak? That’s kinda the most important thing for setting any goals but you didn’t mention it. (“A person who has a why can suffer any how” approx Nietzsche quote.) You want to be a national player again? Be a fitness coach? Fit into pants you’ve been hanging onto for a decade? ;)
@Ben Beckman Sorry to be nosey 👀, but you know Badminton Becky? Do you know the Volant guys as well? 🤔 I'm finally going to try one of their tops tomorrow. It felt nice doing yoga in it though.
@Ben Beckman FYI, Badminton Becky is an American Badminton UA-camr living/working/training in China. She creates great content as well. Hope I got that right.. Haha
I regretted quitting badminton. When I started go for coaching at pri 5(btw I am from malaysia), I got no 2 in scjool then at pri 6 I got no 2. But at form 1, I quitted badminton and idk whether should get back to badminton. I am form 3
This video is the most inspiring clip i have ever seen. I am 16 and badmintonplayer in belgium, i have injured my self everywhere. My wrist, elbow shoulder, hip, nees and my ankles. I am training harder than ever want to reach the semi final of the belgium champs. Thank you for this video. What got you through when you were injured or tired?
Thanks for the wise words. Just a request, if possible, to make to make a video on badminton related injuries and tips on how to go about it treatment wise and preventions eg. heel, ankles, knee , shoulder , tennis elbow etc.
That blackboard you written of drills. Can you do an video about those weekly exercises what benefits badminton outside the court? I play badminton last 5 years 2-3 times a week , but still feeling that my endurance need some extra exercises. What can I do? Awsome video and channel keep up. Do´in Great work.
Thank you, I am facing issue with my shoulder from last few months. Everytime i visit some doctor they direct me some tendencies tablet and when i start playing the pain comes back. I would love to know how I can overcome my shoulder pain
That was inspiring but i still wonder if i can play after may injury i hope i can badminton is big game changer of my life it bought sense of direction although i love the sport i m still alone supporting myself i hope that all change
You look lovely as you are and very handsome. Good luck. I hope to play like you one day. Its so hard being a lefty. Its good to see fellow lefty players. Xxxx
Hey Ben i love your videos they are very motivating. I am trying to become senior state champion in West Bengal, India. I know it's tough, but one day I'm gonna make it happen. Again thanks a lot for your videos.
All the best Ben... I would like to tell about my resolution as well... I weigh 96kgs now... My ideal weight is around 70kgs... So i need to reduce 26kgs in this year... So that's a little more than 2kgs per month... I hope I have your support and anyone else's support as well to ensure I am not blinded by what's not important in life.. 😊
@Ben Beckman thanks and yes been playing badminton for over 15 months now and I have reduced close to 20kgs. I was 115kgs when I started so that's all the more reason for me to love the game and for me to get to full fitness again. Once again.. Thanks
My biggest goal for this year is, besides getting better at badminton of course , to get at ease with unpaitience. I think it's the main factor slowing down my progress. Let's do this together guy's!
Powerful message! I have some simple goals to share: * Read 20 books * Produce vídeos consistently (at least 1 per BWF World Tour above 100 series) * Find time to go to a BWF World Tour event * Meet the Swift Badminton Gang
My goal this year is to play Badminton at a much higher level, but i have no one to practice with me. Because i am a tennis player i am quite fit, so that it is only a matter of technical chanches. Have you got any tips to train alone? Greetings from germany And best of luck for reaching your goals 💪🔥
I'm already starting that journey although I can't find anyone who have the same passion as me to share and keep accountability with. The goal of to simply be better than I was last year at badminton and I'll start with footwork. The plan is to do footwork & shadow drills (footwork fastlane) everyday except Sunday. Probably would do shuttle /hitting drills if I can find training partner willing to feed. Wishing myself luck.. Haha
@Ben Beckman Hi Ben, the long term goal is to consistently get better than I was previously year on year. The more immediate goal is to be able to challenge and beat the elites in my club. There are several tiers of playing level at my club and I have manage to climb all the way to the 2nd tier already. Thanks for the support as I will need all the support I can get. Can't wait to see u blew past your resolutions.. Haha I'll be waiting the next 1000 multishuttle drill from you. 👍
Hi,Shagun here I'm 14 and from India and I love to play badminton , you have inspired me a lot my parents don't support me either and I am a beginner can you tell me what to do i order to participate and win in tournaments and all Hope you see this
Ben Beckman i can somewhat relate as i have suffered a grade 3 ACL rupture. But it my experience, it is not impossible to overcome injuries. Wish you the best of luck bro.
I am not saying that you are wrong. However, not all people are comfortable in sharing resolutions or goals. It is completely okay to work alone. You will be able to dig deeper and reflect upon yourself. I forgot who said this quote but here it is: "If you want to be great in front of everyone, you should be willing to work very hard in front of no one". In my own humble opinion, what you did wrong was not doing it all alone. Instead, you were too focused on reaching your destination that you forgot to enjoy and cherish the journey you had. You have to live every moment. It's kinda similar to growing taller. You can't wake up one day and boom, you're taller. You can't even notice any difference at all until someone told you or you measured your height. It is a slow process and you didn't focus on growing taller but instead, you just lived every moment and did all your habits not noticing any difference. You also mentioned that at one point, you felt no sense of direction at all. That is true for everyone. But, if you don't know where to go, going forward is the best thing you can do. You should've not focused on the tournaments but instead, you should've focused on having fun and enjoying the game. This way, you improve without having too much stress.
Bro I am very frustrated I have played three tournaments and in these I have lost in just second round why I am not getting success after doing so much hardworking whyyyyyy?😭😭😭
Hey Ben. Like you, I use to be fit and healthy and was very active in sports and running. But I suffered a broken knee and ankle that puts me out for years. Now I’m out of shape and I’m just playing Badminton. I love Badminton and I want to get back in shape but I don’t have the drive to. Somehow something’s missing. Would love to hear from you whenever you have the chance. Thanks Ben. love your videos. Thanks for being an inspiration.

I always have fear to lose my continuity in physical training because it happened also in the past. My body is not shape like a professional player and many things to improve in skills too. I want to be a professional player. Please help me.
@Ben Beckman I also have partial ligament injury on my right knee which restricting me from advancing my workout. I think you also had same then how you overcome that and attained such a good physical fitness??
hey i want to break all records of lin dan and lee chong wei i am 15 and i think i have got the skills but one thing which is as obstacle in my way is financial crises i cant afford the expenses of badminton can u help me out in this case plzzzzz and i dont even have mobile phone so plz can you talk about my problem in next video and i will then give u answer in comments thnks...
