You did what any farmer would have done for your cow. I have watched enough of other farmers in this circumstance to know you did well. Life isn't perfect and you are correct, you saved your cow. You are a good farmer.
Thank you for your honesty and realism. Life on a cattle ranch, as you portray, is an ever changing challenge! Love your channel and I watch every episode. Please keep up the great work!
Sorry for your loss of the calf. Will you keep 33 or send her to market. Not a farmer, just wondering if this is a one off thing or is 33 deficient for future calving.
UA-cam will demonitise this video just because it is not pretty. Thank you for having the courage to show the bad times as well as the good. You were right to handle the problem yourself. The longer that dead calf stayed in the cow the worst for her.
You did the best you could and saved the mother. You don’t have to explain anything to anyone….you didn’t do anything wrong Tyler. Thank you for sharing
The reason I like Tyler's vlog, is that you get to see all the things involved in running a ranch. The good & the nots so nice. Just the way real farm life is. Most of the people who didn't stay to watch this video, are the ones who can't face life's problems. I realize there were those who just couldn't watch, and I understand that, but for those that will complain or nit pick, go watch a cooking show, we'll all be better off! Thanks again, Tyler, for showing ranching as it really is.
Tyler..not being a farmer or anything todo with farming I have no idea what else you could've done better than what you did..and maybe u could explain thnks
I promise the people who are saying “why didn’t you do this or this” probably have never been in this situation before! Tough start to calving season but a long way to go so hopefully this is the last of the bad news! You’re doing great and me and my son absolutely love your videos!
Good job, FTR! I find it amazing how you stay calm and talk through with explanations & expectations, all the while talking quietly to the mama. Your patience & abilities are first class! Thank you for sharing with those of us who are clueless with ranching and the hard decisions, especially when “working in the dark”! Great vlog! 😻
Tyler you did a nice job helping the mother cow to get rid of the dead baby cow inside of her. You are a hero, not just for the mother cow but for all of us. You are a farmer, you are the backbone of our society. You provide us the milk from your cow, the meat we eat, and many more. We should be very thankful for all you do. Thank you again, Tyler.
One thing for sure.... if you have livestock then you will eventually have deadstock. This is life on the farm. Thanks for showing us the reality of raising cattle.
Thank you Tyler for showing everything. I'm not a rancher, but I lived on a ranch years ago & found cows having trouble & helping the rancher pull the calf. It has to be done. My area has a veterinarian shortage too with no ranch calls. It takes 6 months & $500. + to get a female cat spay. My granddaughters have horses & I'm thankful none have colicked needing a ranch call. Unfortunately they would die waiting unless we took action, got them walking & had some RX meds. This comment is for the naysayers. Non ranchers have a hard time understanding that to do nothing or wait hours is worse. Sorry for your loss💙
Tyler, PLEASE stop beating yourself up. Ignore the arm chair quarter backs. They know NOTHING about being a farmer and all of the things you do is from a combination of "on the job experience" and schooling. You do a remarkable job every day and as you said, not everything is a success. Keep up the great work and keeping us up to date on your farming.
We also use a block and tackle to help our cows deliver their calves and gently push down to minimize hip lock. You made the right choice to check this cow and acted immediately to save the cow. Raising beef cattle is not for the faint of heart, you have to endure a lot of sorrow along with the good times. I cry every time I lose a calf or a cow, I get over it in a couple of days but it hurts like hell when it happens. Thank you for sharing your genuine concern for your animals and keep up the good work! Cheers from Alberta, Canada!
I'm new to your videos, but I grew up with cattle ranchers in my family. What impressed me is your obvious sympathy and care for your animals. You lost a calf, but you saved a cow. That's a win. One thing I've learned about you tube and arm chair critics...it doesn't matter what you do, someone is going to try a critique it. Keep up the obvious good work!
Excellent video from an honest small farmer, crisis handled perfectly with Tyler's problem solving skills. This was the best outcome possible under the circumstances.
Showing true ranching. Taking action to solve a problem and not standing around waiting for someone else to solve it. Great advice for not only ranchers but every day life.
I watched "Cross Timbers Bison". This happened to one of his female buffalo. Where she had a leg sticken out. But couldnt deliver the calf. By the time he noticed a leg sticking out. He called the vet. The vet informed him. He needed to get the calf out asap. Or the momma would die. He got the momma buffalo in the chute. He reached to grab the leg to pull. But the calf was in advanced decomp. The smell was awful. Hed walked away gagging and throwing up. It fell apart on him. He got the leg out and some other parts. He ended up giving the momma large dose of antibiotics and meds to trigger her to expel the calf out. She cant be bred again because of all that. I think what you did Tyler was the right decision.
A friend of mine went through a similar situation but the vet did that pull, 3-days after he called! In that time he had two other pulls he did himself both successful with one alive and one not. He has downsized his herd now for a few years but at that time he had over a hundred head. That vet never came back and he had to find another. Even when you call a vet, you don’t know how good they are. He also ended up losing the heifer from the vet pull.
Yeah I seen that one also! I was really worried about that bison because he wasn't sure he got everything but she lived, definitely nail bitter for me!!
You are so caring and I appreciate that you are keeping ranching real with us. I’m sorry for your loss but am very thankful for your win at the same time. I think you do an amazing job of making your ranch functional and as pleasant for all of the animals as possible. You are doing a great job! Keep it up! Much love from Southern Illinois ♥️
As an experienced cattle woman, I appreciate you posting this because I liked the way you used the pipe and come along. Good to know little tips like this. I ate my lunch while watching this video. Grew up watching my dad pull calves. :)
I’m glad you showed this, but sorry for the manna and you. 😢 You’ve got to be the best at farming/ranching, considering the care, wisdom, ability and gentleness. It was sweet that your wife offered to help.
Tyler, anyone that watches your videos knows how much you care for your animals. I truly hope you don’t hear to many “what if’s “. The very best to you and the farm.
You did your best to save the cow. The calf was probably long gone from during the night when the cow tried to give birth, but couldn’t do it. Thanks for the video.
By the time you knew you had a problem - as you never saw her in labor - it was too late to do anything else except lose the cow. Since that was even worse than the outcome - you did the best that could have been done. I was fine until you told her you were sorry. That was the sweetest thing ever, it touched my heart but left a bruise. Hope you had something you could give her to deal with the physical pain and loss. If I were your grandmother - I'd be so proud of you. That's how I know your grandfather would feel the same way.
Lol. I have had that same discussion with mine. She kept saying how they weren't the best parents. I told her that my brother and I were trouble makers and we had our butts whipped many times. Many of those times we deserved it and sometimes we didn't. However, there were times that we got away with stuff that we should have been whipped for, so it all equaled out.
I like the way you always focus on the positive. It is a good lesson for all walks of life. This was a good video; it shows what livestock farmers face almost daily. Thanks
Farmer Tyler, I appreciate that you show the real life. If anyone is considering this business your channel tells the truth of how it can go and how to handle it. Sorry for your loss, but I fully agree with doing what's best for mom! Keep your head up, you do a great job!
Kudo’s to you for doing what needed to be done, doing it and then posting the video. You were even thoughtful enough to let folks know in advance that it would be difficult to watch (as you’ve done previously with abscesses). Anyone who has followed you for any length of time sees how much you care. When you stop to talk to or pet the dogs, when you bottle feed a calf, and lest we forget Buddy! Even your initial remark when the ordeal was over demonstrated your care when you said how sorry you were to the poor momma. I don’t profess to know a whole lot about what you do, but having been hanging around for 80+ years has taught me a few things about people, and you are definitely one of the good ones! Bless you and yours. ❤️🙏
We always like to see two hoove's and a nose! You did a great job, hope YT doesn't beat you up over showing "Real Life on the Ranch"! Disregard any negative comments! Just another day on the ranch Tyler! Good post FTR!
Thank you for sharing the harsh realities that come with farming and for having such a great attitude when it comes to the naysayers. Keep up the great work!
I’m a 71 year old country girl. Raised on a farm in Illinois. (Live in Oklahoma now)You did a great job, no criticism here. Saving the animal is paramount for alot of reasons. That calf was gone yesterday. I know as sure as I’m sitting here some people are griping about calling the vet. He/She would have done what you did. So the outcome is the same except you saved a few hours of suffering for the cow. Good job and God bless you for the hard work and care you put into your animals. You got some healthy happy looking kiddos too. That’s great!
Nice to see a Rancher that is willing to post things that don't always go right. While not a "failure" of yours for any reason the fact that you stuck with it and saved the Mom is honorable. Hopefully this was the "one off" and the remainder of your calving season goes smoothly. Sorry for the loss....even one is too many.
Thank you so much for sharing this aspect with us. I believe the entirety of farming should be shown. Great job on taking care of mama. Let the haters hate. Well done Tyler.
You cant sugar coat it. Its the good, bad an ugly. Ive been watching a long time now. That one was tough. An its been a while since youve had bottle calves too. You are the vet. Dealing with livestock ive told my daughter about this many times.
You did amazing! It's to bad that some just have never stepped foot on a ranch but think they know how to ranch. It's a very high adrenaline enducing experience during calving season when things start to go wrong and you are just trying to save a baby and or mom! Never 2nd guess yourself. You are amazing and have great instincts.
You aren't arrogant, defensive, we think you are wise, good problem solver, kind, gentle, ! I helped my dad pull a couple Calves in my day. Thanks for showing this and being real.
That was intense! I was helping her push too! I’m glad you were able to pull the calf and save the cow’s life. Poor old girl must have been exhausted, not to mention you too! Next year will be better.
If you have any negative comments then they don’t really understand what farmers have to do. It’s not all rosy driving tractors and having fun. Life doesn’t work that way. Good honest video, and here is one who actually appreciates you having the courage to show the downside to your life. 👏👍
I’m not a farmer, but I’ve been around cattle most of my adult life. You absolutely did the right thing - you saved your cow and did so in the safest and kindest way. It’s part of life with livestock (as you said) and it’s good for folks to see moments like this and how you choose to handle them. No criticism here, Tyler - you did well.
Your knowledge and experience resulted in saving #33. There’s just no way to predict when these issues will come up. You dealt with it in your usual calm, systematic manner. Hoping there are no more problems this season.
Good job Tyler! Clearly that cow needed your help. Can't imagine someone having a negative comment about how this all transpired. When you raise livestock, these things sometimes happen. The calf was stillborn and you just saved a cow's life because she would have died if it weren't for your knowledge on how to get the dead calf out...and fast. Thanks for saving her life!👍
I think you do the best you can and I appreciate that you show the good bad and ugly of farming.. people don't realize it's not all roses .. it's easy to see you love your animals
You saved #33. good for you. Without your intervention, both #33 and the calf would be dead. Well done. It is amazing how rugged 33 is to walk away from that difficult/painful experience.
I waited to comment, Tyler, to see if anyone would dare criticize you for anything you did or didn't do in a difficult and even emotional situation like this. I was ready to defend you with swords drawn. I hope YT does not demonitize this video as it shows not only how hard ranching can be but also educates so many who enjoy the end products from ranchers but have no idea what it takes for everything to get to market. I'm so proud of the way you handled removing that calf and absolutely saving the momma's life. Great job, Tyler, and great video, even if it was a bit hard to watch (and I spent my young years growing up on a Kansas farm). May you and your lovely wife have a much easier rest of the season!
This was exactly what the vet would have told you to do. Thank you, its important to share this kind of information. Who knows, someone, somewhere, may save a life with the knowledge you just shared.
Tyler you've got 20+ years experience. You know what you're doing. Your subscribers believe you did the right thing. If they don't believe you did the right thing, then they've never been on a ranch with livestock. You know what's best for the situation you were in.
You did very well Tyler. Saving the cow is #1. She’ll most likely breed back next year. Losing a calf isn’t easy but if you lose the cow, you lost it, the current calf and any future calves she would have had. You made the best decision in those circumstances.
Coming from someone that has watched a lot of episodes of The Incredible Doctor Pol and have watched him pull a lot of cows, you have nothing to be apologizing for. Watch a prolapse episode and what it takes to put it back in position is an eye opener. You did a great job and the cow survived that's all you could have done.
This is the toughest thing I do believe a farmer has to deal with crop farmers. They deal with a different kind of depression. Ranchers, we deal with death, either accidental or also butchering, either way. Farming is not easy. It takes a special person to farm and nowadays. Yeah, it's even harder. God bless you good video sir
You did a great job. You and your family love of your animals really shows. Been a long time viewer almost from beginning and I learn so much. Sorry for the loss of another calf. It’s lost income and sad. Glad you saved the mom cow. Hope rest of calving goes great.
Your efforts to help that cow were commendable. The reasoning and explanations you give are always well thought out and sensible. Something you said resonates with me - “…sometimes you just have to do what you can…”. And that’s close enough. I grew up on a homestead on Maui, way back then it was a very agrarian community. My dad held about 30 head of cattle. That small herd was plenty since he farmed vegetables too. I’ve had first hand experience with cattle as you do. We didn’t have a shoot with a crush - so if it was necessary to pull a calf, it involved chains and the tractor. Anyway, this comment isn’t about me - the purpose is to assure you that your videos are liked because you’re real about describing what’s next to be done, and you explain it all very well. Keep at it - and don’t let your ranch be squeezed out. Plus you have excellent dogs!
Back when I was a teenager my dad called me away from an Alabama LSU game on TV to help him deliver a calf. We were lucky and the little boy calf I got to name after Bear Bryant-I called him Bear. When I got inside my mom threw away my clothes which were covered in after birth totally ruined my clothes. But found memories about helping my dad!!! Sorry you lost the little one!
Number 33 mamma is very fortunate to be cared for by you, & we're fortunate to be able to see how hard you work to keep your livestock safe & well. Not sure how I found your channel but I enjoy every video you do. Thanks to you & all the other ranchers & farmers for providing us with milk, meat & crops - you are appreciated very much. Best wishes from Sydney Australia
Perfectly handled situation by an experienced Farmer. No vet would have done anything different. You are a good honest Rancher! Thanks for sharing the positives and negatives.
Great job on saving the cow! Anyone not in your shoes have nothing they can say about how you handle your livestock. I for one thinks your doing a great job!
While I’m sad you lost the calf that was an Excellent excellent job!!!!🎉🎉🎉 So glad you were able to save the cow! I’m sorry you have to even explain yourself. Long time viewers Know you know what you are doing. I was so glad when she got up❤ great job
Thank you Tyler for showing the good & the bad on a farm its not always sunshine on a farm but you knew what to do for her and to save her and since the new rules now with farm animals its hard to get a vet to come out to farms anymore ❤
You're such a stand up guy. Problems happen, and you handled this perfectly. It's your cow, your decision making is spot on. Mission accomplished. Keep moving forward buddy. Love your channel

I helped my dad pull a couple
Calves in my day.
Excellent job and decision to take the pro active approach! Saving one is always better than losing both.
You did the best thing possible. If you had waited for a vet, you most likely would have lost the cow as well. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for saving her life!👍
Thanks you for showing the good with the bad. It’s real. Hopefully all the rest of the callings go flawlessly!
You done what you had to do tyler
Great job! You saved the cow. Sorry for your loss.
You did what was best for 33. You saved her life. You delivered the calf as gently as possible, and you gave quiet space to mourn and recoup.
It's a part of being a farmer. Glad momma is doing good. You are great!
It can't always be peaches and cream, thanks for the video Tyler. I appreciate all your videos, positive and not so positive.
You did very well Tyler. Saving the cow is #1. She’ll most likely breed back next year. Losing a calf isn’t easy but if you lose the cow, you lost it, the current calf and any future calves she would have had. You made the best decision in those circumstances.
You're doing it right. Don't let anyone say any different. Your love for your animals shows
Coming from someone that has watched a lot of episodes of The Incredible Doctor Pol and have watched him pull a lot of cows, you have nothing to be apologizing for. Watch a prolapse episode and what it takes to put it back in position is an eye opener. You did a great job and the cow survived that's all you could have done.
Glad you chose to share. It lets people see what can happen and what you have to deal with.
Sorry for the lose, but glad the cow is ok.
Farm life is not all rainbows and unicorns. You minimized your loss. You did a great job Tyler.
It was really good planning on your part to set that old chute up on the "off chance" that you might need it! You've needed it non-stop this spring!
You did the best for the cow and you handled it beautifully. This shows you really care for your animals.
You did a great job. You and your family love of your animals really shows. Been a long time viewer almost from beginning and I learn so much. Sorry for the loss of another calf. It’s lost income and sad. Glad you saved the mom cow. Hope rest of calving goes great.
Good job.
Major kudos to you FTR.
Thanks for sharing that video 👍👍👍
Maybe it is a good sign you have had two sets of twins! Hope tomorrow is a better day for you!
Great job trying to save the calf Tyler
You did a great job Tyler! So glad you posted this video and mom will be fine ! Enjoy watching all of your videos!
You are so compassionate toward your animals.
You did great! We had to pull a calf the other day, it's a daunting task for sure. Great video!
Thank you Tyler for showing the good & the bad on a farm its not always sunshine on a farm but you knew what to do for her and to save her and since the new rules now with farm animals its hard to get a vet to come out to farms anymore ❤
Great job, no second guessing, you're the guy dealing with it at the moment, I enjoyed it, that's why I watch to learn about your job.
It was a good video. You clearly care for your cows.
You're such a stand up guy. Problems happen, and you handled this perfectly. It's your cow, your decision making is spot on. Mission accomplished. Keep moving forward buddy. Love your channel
Yep had twins this morning one coming head and one I had to pull coming backwards ,you do what you have to do,both alive and well TG, Galway Ireland xxx
