Doing this myself after seeing your video, Is there any extra instructions or tips you have? I'm a beginner sewer and really don't want to mess this up
YES! Go for it. I would suggest using some kind of tissue paper for the bug net. There's a lot of support for this. I didn't and probably just got lucky, but there can be some issues from that. Also make the tub a bit deeper. This should help if you get into some heavy rain. Thanks!
No ground cloth required. The tub is 2.2 oz HEX70 which I think should hold up fine. Thanks for the notes too, debated a narration but figured it was simple enough to do without.
You're so awesome. I recently bought mosquito net without floor... I have to use my raincoat as floor during my stay in the woods. Have you tried sewing tarp for camping?
You need to seam seal all of the seams to make it waterproof. The tub is 2.2oz hex70. To make the boxed corners, you remove a square then stitch the edges together. Hope that helps 👍🏻
I really just sketched out a triangular prism and figured out how long I needed it (which was 7ft based on me being 6ft) I wanted it to be as tight inside as possible for weight and the ability to deploy in a small space.
It's probably a good idea to use tissue underneath thinner ripstop and insect mesh. However, I seem to have gotten away without using it ever. Maybe do a few tests without tissue paper backing.
@Jbmongold no worries I ended up trying a paria brand version of this and just confirmed I'm a hammock person years of doing this in the army has broke me lol thanks for the reply
Thanks for the reply! It took two weekends. Partly because I ordered the wrong pull for the zipper and wasn't sure how it all worked. It was my first shelter and first time sewing a zipper so I wanted to lay it all out first.
The ridgeline is 4mm paracord. For the prusik knots, used to attach and tighten the bivy onto the ridgeline, I used 1.8mm utility cord. Prusik knots work best when a smaller diameter cord bites onto a larger one.
Listen you obviously are very skilled. But all this video did was to convince me that I should never make what I can buy. The time and skill it took you costed 20 times more than just buying it.
You can look at several factors to determine whether or not you should make it or buy it. In this case the tub material, bug net mesh, and zipper assembly cost $37.53 (including $7.95 shipping). You might have a hard time finding a bug net with a tub for cheaper. For me there is a satisfaction in making and using your own equipment that is hard to put a price on.
the entry slit is quite unique! Well done
Many Thanks! It kind of tight to get in and out, maybe a half circle would have been better
That zipper attachment is ingenius. They use that technique in knitting for some sweater designs.
This is impressive. And an underrated skill. Makes me regret goofing off in home economics class. Lol
awesome work!! wow
Nice use of the chalk line! Clever!
Awesome job! Thanks.

Well done. Nice skills. Cool bug bivy. New follower here. Crow✌️
Looks great
Damn, I'm impressed!
man thats crazy !! do yıu have a pattern or you can make anothor video for detail
Nicely done!
Dang!! Good job!! I see your video was made 4yrs ago. How’s the tent doing now?
Awesome DIY!!!!!
You made that really easy.
I would love to be able to make things like this.
Top Effort.
ATB Reeco
Thanks a bunch, you can do it no problem
serious skills !!!
I think I just learned how to sew… 🤯 but really. You have a ton of great skills and definitely deserve more subscribers!! Your sense of humor alone. 😂
Mighty kind of you to say so! 👍🏻
Damn, your a genius 😁
I was amused how the video went out of sequence, but the bug bivy turned out alright!
Nice!
Please give a thumbs down if you are unable to appreciate creative genius.
Do you need a ground cloth? Love the editing can follow along, but you don't talk the whole time. subscribed.

That’s Cool🙆
What is the name of that fabric?
2.2 oz HEX70
thanks!
How many Sq yds of noseeum is that? Ty!
👍 okay, one for me please, thx 😄
I think if you put the zipper at an angle it would be easy to get in and out.
Yeah for sure it's kinda tricky to get in and out. That was the last step and, admittedly, I was ready to be done with it.
You're so awesome. I recently bought mosquito net without floor... I have to use my raincoat as floor during my stay in the woods. Have you tried sewing tarp for camping?
Thank you!!!
I have made a tarp and it's fairly simple. You should make a tub for your net and sew it all together!
i see many use mosquito net ,assuming there no dreaded ticks in your country ?
Nicely done but I’d be cheaper just buying one already done
Can you tell me the lenght and with of the bathtub as well as the with of the mosquito side panel?
I didn't understand how did you sewed the triangle... But I liked it
Do you sell these?
no me moleste moskito !!!🎶🎶🎶
Solid
Are the seams on the bottom water proof? Also what material is the bottom made of?
Also how did you make those folds and corners of the bottom?
You need to seam seal all of the seams to make it waterproof. The tub is 2.2oz hex70.
To make the boxed corners, you remove a square then stitch the edges together. Hope that helps 👍🏻
To buy cost in my country MY around US15.
Where can I find the detailed plan?
I really just sketched out a triangular prism and figured out how long I needed it (which was 7ft based on me being 6ft)
I wanted it to be as tight inside as possible for weight and the ability to deploy in a small space.
I'm about to do a similar project. Was there anything special you had to do to sew the zipper onto the insect mesh or was it just plug-n-play?
It's probably a good idea to use tissue underneath thinner ripstop and insect mesh. However, I seem to have gotten away without using it ever. Maybe do a few tests without tissue paper backing.
i would have made the tub higher thou
Yeah, me too if I could have done it over
Can I use plywood instead🤔
Please do that and make a video!!
Lol are you making these for people???❤
No, just a one and done
@Jbmongold no worries I ended up trying a paria brand version of this and just confirmed I'm a hammock person years of doing this in the army has broke me lol thanks for the reply
About how long did it take for this project assuming you already know how to sew and have the plan/pattern and materials.
I'd like to know the answer to that as well as I have a scout troup that wants to make them
Thanks for the reply!
It took two weekends. Partly because I ordered the wrong pull for the zipper and wasn't sure how it all worked. It was my first shelter and first time sewing a zipper so I wanted to lay it all out first.
Hi, could you tell me what diameter of the cord did you use?
🤔yep

Total Yardage?
2 yards of the 2.2 oz HEX70 and 4 yards of the 0.9 oz Noseeum mesh
When you don't know how to use a sewing machine or the complex learning curve of cut shapes on fabrics. EASY
Isn’t that nice
