    Just a note pal, these mk6 Golf's are canbus wired. The brown (centre wire) to each of the rear light clusters is a shared earth. The tail and brake lights are both controlled by the single black/red & black/green respectively. Simply wiring the "brake / stop" wire from the bypass relay to 1 side will enable both the tails and brakes to work without the need to connect L&R tail connections from relay. Nice how to tho. 👍

      /// Cars forever w/o canbus that didn't need a bypass relay only needed a tail light and stop light signal from one side. I don't see why canbus would change that. So you shouldn't need a tail light feed from the left side either.

      My problem is that when I step on my brakes turn signals switch sides. When not pressing the brake, everything works fine. My connection was the same as this video. Should I somehow not connect left/right turn signal from the bypass and just let the shared cable feed me the turn signals?

    I'm pretty sure the mk6 uses a single wire/single filament bulb brake and tail light setup. It runs lower voltage for the normal tail light, and full voltage for the brake light. That relay box apparently works with that system, but the third wire's (Brown i think) meant to be ran to ground when the car's using this system. In reality that's what you've done, but it's running to ground through the car's original loom rather than via the body earth point.
    Also, there should already be an accessory power socket (Sounds strange calling it that. I'm old enough to still want to call it a cigarette lighter socket) on that side of the boot/trunk. Normally it's a switched power supply, but VW conveniently made provisions in the fuse box for you to use the fuse like a jumper, so by moving that it's turned into a reasonably high draw permanent live. It's a lot easier to tap into that than to drag 15 foot of cable through the whole interior. It's already on it's own 20a fuse, so the wiring's going to be perfectly adequate to run the trailer lights instead.

      Reman1975, I put the brown wire from the module to ground and the tail/running lights still do not work. Any ideas? Thanks!

    nice job ,but as an auto electric tech you should put the fuse at the fuse panel end to protect the hole circuit, as it is if it shorts to ground under your carpet it will burn your car up.

    Thanks man, have the same 2012 MK6. your turn signal wires on the drivers side were accurate, took it to a uhaul and they let me test everything no charge. Thank you!

    Question. That center wire brown one you tied in with brown from curt computer and red wire you tied into purple and black/ "brake" thing is brakes and turns are on one control on trailer but your running lights are not browns as you said in video they are the purple and black. Just confused on how this worked out for you cus mine didnt.

      To be completely honest, it has been soo long since I wired that car, that I don't really remember. Sorry, best of luck!

    Could you just tap into the 12 volt power outlet in the trunk? Instead of running the wire all the way through the car?

    • @Sailerryan
      @Sailerryan  5 років тому

      You can, but I wanted mine to be separate so I didn't overload the circuit, since I used that port.

    Thanks for this video. I have a 2013 mk6 GTI and am trying to get the same setup wired. Did you test the wires before install? When I tested mine, it seemed like the PWM-SST configuration was right, but now only my tail and brake lights work through the wiring, not the turn signals on either side. I wired green to red/black on the left side, and purple/black to yellow on the right side. Red and brown to ground.

    • @Sailerryan
      @Sailerryan  6 років тому

      I just kinda went for it, haha. So your brake, running light, and turn lights on the car and the brake and running light function properly. The trailer turn signals do not? I may have been a little confusing with my instructions. Yellow is still left turn. Because I moved the box to the right side, the left turn wire was too short and the right turn wire was too long. I just used the excess from the green (right) to connect the left side. Left turn wire (yellow) curt should connect to white/black gti. Right side: green wire from curt connects to green/black gti, brown curt connects to brown gti, and red curt connects to purple/black gti. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions :)

    • @philmenezes5315

      Totally get that you swapped the sides. I did the same thing too before even seeing your video. Also, I messed up above. I did Green(Right Turn) to Black/Purple on Right side, and Yellow(Left Turn) to Black/Red on Left side. Brown and Red were ground with white. I did it this way bc of the PWM-SST on the instructions. >aybe I should've gone with PWM-ST? You appear to have done the 'Three-wire' configuration. Not sure the diff between 2012 - 2013 models though. Everything works on the car, but my signals on the trailer plug look to only do Tail and Brakes. No blinks

    I'm having an issue. Everything works as normal... but when I have my turn signal on either left or right. When I hold my foot on the brake, the indicator will switch to the opposite side?!?! Any clue?

    • @Sailerryan
      @Sailerryan  7 років тому

      The yellow should go to the left side and the green should go to the right turn signal. I wanted the box on the right side of the car, so I had to extend the yellow and shorten the green cable. Also, make sure your trailer is wired properly.
