    Really well explained. I really hoped for a better outcome as I have a classic H239 with burn. Also remember talking to you about this on a 0634 about a year ago.
    Keep up the good work content like this is invaluable.
    Now then I really need to go buy that book!

      :) Yes, Louis Zannoni's book is a wealth of information and it has a big chapter on LED's as well.

    Very interesting Tibi! I have the same book also. And yes newton ring unfortunatly is unrepairable issue (lcd itself). Replacing front and back is the only solution with faint digits or reddish-green-purple display.

    Great explanation. Never knew how an lcd worked before, but now I do. Thank you!
    As a quick follow-up question, if you're separate the panes containing the LC, replaced the LC and reassembled it (assuming this is possible) would that resolve the issue?

    • @VintageDigitalWatches
      @VintageDigitalWatches  5 років тому +1

      Hi, yes, I think it would, that is the last place the issue can come from.

    • @stianlarsson6625

      @@VintageDigitalWatches Ok, I have a follow-up question then. Can one buy LC liquid and is it possible to open the display and replace it?
      I don't know how LC liquid works, but would it be standardized? Or do different manufacturers use different liquids that require different amounts of current?
      EDIT: I should say thank you for your videos.
      Also, why have you not set up a patreon account? Your videos are mzing, but more importantly they cover a subject that is difficult to find information on elsewhere. I'm not rich, but I'd contribute.

    Hi!, very nice video. My watch a Citizen Crystron 1975, is ok when in shadow, if i exposed to sun, or a phone led light it turns black, and purple for some minutes, in the most part of the screen, then back to normal. what can be the cause? thanks for your opinion.!!

    Screen burn is a common problem on handheld consumerism like the gameboy and it is usually the polarizing filter at fault! I don't know why it is different in watches!

    • @VintageDigitalWatches
      @VintageDigitalWatches  4 роки тому

      There are bur s in watches but not so often. Aging pf the liquid crystal I suppose is the issue here I believe.

    I'd like to know if you also observed an uneven distribution of contrast across a LCD that shows the rainbow effect. My Casio W-780 seems to have the effect you describe here, but it also has a very uneven contrast that also changes depending on what is displayed. Changing the front polarizer didn't do anything. I don't dare to remove the back polarizer, fearing to lose the "REM" print on the back of the glass. So I can't test if the back polarizer is the culprit. But if I put the module in test mode, where all segemts are lit, it suddenly has the full contrast in all segments. I have no clue what causes this strange behavior.

    • @VintageDigitalWatches
      @VintageDigitalWatches  4 роки тому

      Never saw a case where the contrast is uneven and also at times comes back ok. I think it has to do with the module. Do you have a second module on which to test this LCD?

      You can try to look for a Gameboy polarizer on ebay. Many Gameboy owners want to put a backlight in the display to enhance visibility and contrast, and for that purpose there are many offers on ebay, selling full backlight kits or just the polarizers. They come in square pieces of 50x50 mm and are usually self-adhesive. I think polarizers with a stripe running across the protecting foil have an adhesive side.

      @@VintageDigitalWatches that's sad... I already had two digital vintage watches, and both of them had the LCD damaged by water... so, I was expecting if I can just replace the LCD which exactly looked like in the video. The electronics part is still good and functional and I want to still make use of it.

    Hi bro greetings from Chile, I have a casio game called hungry girafe, it's a game from 1985
    It have a issue with the lcd screen about missing sprites, the rest of the display is ok but, I can't see the leaf sprites.
    Is the only problem, do you have a method to fix it??, or is a circuit issue.
    I put the tester probe one on one contact line and appears the missing sprites

    • @VintageDigitalWatches

      Tot test the board for missing output on segments you need an oscilloscope.
