Hey I just ordered this phone the other day to replace my moto g power 2020. Haven't gotten it yet. But I'm actually kind of regretting it & considering returning it because I didn't realize it didn't have stereo speakers.. like my moto g power has stereo & is by far the loudest phone ive ever had. I remember before with other phones, there would always be videos where I'd turn it up all the way & would barely be able to hear. Never once had that problem with the moto g power. So how is the volume on this phone? Is it something I should worry about? Thanks.

@@Gameboy-Unboxings Did you ever return it? You're right that it's only one speaker, but it includes "Dolby - Extreme Bass" so it sounds great with that setting enabled (you just have to manually enable it.)

As someone who came out of Apple, I am looking at this as replacing my second phone because the 256 gb unlocked version is only $200. Who cares if Android phones only get 2 years of updates when you may be spending the equivalent value as Apple phones? Either get a new $200 Android every year or two, or get a new $1000 Apple every 5 years. You are actually spending the same amount of money, but you have older backup phones in the process of getting Android. Android is the clear winner in terms of logistics and better value.

@@vvvios I got the 2022 version. It's awesome and much faster than iphone. Android apps run more smoothly than ios apps, and apps continue getting updates where on apple, app updates eventually stop. It just works with no hoops to jump through. Transferring files to and from a computer is seamless. I am never going back to iphone, but I eventually desire to try all Android manufacturers in the future.

@@ninjanerdstudent6937 There's a free launcher "Smart Launcher" that keeps the iOS-style "swipe down to search for apps and see most used apps" style, I love it (it also groups apps into categories automatically like the iOS update did.) That's really the only downside I found with Android compared to iPhone, the default Android launcher I think is worse (since it'll never auto-categorize apps) but Smart Launcher fixes it. You can also save your layout so when you buy a new phone, all your apps will be there (if you haven't downloaded the app, it'll automatically prompt you to download it.)

Great phone, I have 2 of them since my insurance replacement for my second phone was a phone I already had. I like the simple operating system that isn't loaded with bloat ware and the battery that can easily last me all day. I do wish it was a little bit slimmer but it has a 6.8 screen and a 5,000 mah battery so I can't expect it to be to slim. I just use the slimmest case I can so I don't add to much extra bulk to it.

Motorola is selling the 6/256 version for $249 right now (Sept. 30, 2022). The similar-spec OnePlus Nord N20 is $259, and has a slightly better CPU, but only 6/128 gB of memory, and is GSM only (TMO/ATT only, with no support for Verizon). This Moto is a stylus phone, the Nord isn't. The Nord has 35 watt charging, this phone has only 10 watts. Both have 3.5mm audio jacks. Both have low-end cameras, neither being clearly "better". The Nord has an AMOLED screen, a clear advantage there. Both support SD cards, but the Moto will take up to a 1tB card, compared to 512gB max in the Nord. For someone on Verizon, this Moto is the clear winner, as the Nord doesn't have a CDMA radio chip. For TMO or AT&T customers, the choice is less clear-cut. Both have 1080 x 2400 px screens, but the Nord's AMOLED screen has deeper blacks and more vivid color. Both have Android 11, but the Nord is 1 year newer, and might eventually get an upgrade to Android 13, which this Moto will not since it's already a year out of date. For any current T-Mobie customer who is thinking of "maybe" switching to Verizon someday, this Moto is a better choice, however, as it will work with Verizon's towers, which the Nord will not. Since both phones are well under $300, and only $10 apart in retail price, it's the specific features that control value. But storage...The Moto has 256gB internal to the Nord's 128gB - an advantage to the Moto that's hard to ignore. I have to say that the Universal carrier support, the stylus, and 256 gB storage make the Moto a better value than the Nord by a substantial margin, as long as the slower 10 watt charger isn't a deal breaker for you.

@@megamanjim12093 - I just checked on my phone, and it does NOT support NFC. My copy is last year's model, no. XT-2131-1. The newer 2022 model of this phone might include NFC, and it does have a better display screen, but it's $150 more. My budget for this phone was $250, and I decided that the 2022 model improvements were not significant enough to tempt me into dropping the extra $150. I've had the phone for 3 weeks now and I really like it. It's a really good value at $249, if you can live without the cutting-edge features like NFC and wireless charging, which my car doesn't support anyway.

@@preston8872 - I like the Motorola Moto G Stylus 5G 2022. It's on sale for $299, which is a little above your target price, but in my opinion worth every penny. It's a feature-packed phone that can do almost anything the flagship $1000 phones can do, and some things they can't. Here are the key features that sold me on this phone:
      1. 6.8" display that can run 120 hz or 60 hz (60 hz uses less battery power, so that's how I run mine).
      2. MicroSD card slot that can accomodate up to a 1 tB card. The phone comes with a 256 gB card, and 256gB Internal storage, for a total of 512 gB.
      3. It has a 3.5mm audio jack.
      4. It comes with a Stylus for taking handwritten notes or for making sketches (I've not used this feature, but it's there if you want to play with it). The Moto Stylus isn't pressure sensitive like a Samsung S Pen, but it's also not $800 like a Samsung Note phone.
      5. It has a fingerprint sensor built into the Power button.
      6. It's Carrier Unlocked, and will accept sim cards from T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, and possibly other second-tier US carriers. I don't know if the phone will work countries other than the US, because the portability issue is more complicated than just what sim card is in the phone: Different countries use different radio frequencies for their cell towers, and the RF tranceiver chipset in the Moto G phones sold in the US might or might not include RF channels for Canada, or Mexico.
      7. The bootloader can be unlocked by requesting an unlock code from Motorola via their website. Unlocking the bootloader allows you to use custom ROM's and Recoveries like TWRP, and Root the phone with Magisk if you want to, but since this phone is so new, neither TWRP nor Lineage OS have official builds for it on their websites, and there's no guaranty that there ever will be an "official" build of Lineage OS for this phone. Unlocking the bootloader does void your warranty, but at least you CAN unlock it - Samsung does not allow users to unlock bootloaders on most of their phones nowadays.
Anyway, I haven't found any other mid-price phone that can beat this one for features and quality at $299.

Why do you reviewers always approach these reviews as if Every last person watching is rich and looks down on anything but the very best, very expensive, top flagship models?
A lot of us are buying these as our best new phone from tracphone, cricket, or some other budget carrier. So these are the best we can afford.
Just ordered this for 99.99 with a year of service from HSN. That's the very best I can afford. So in searching for vids on this you reviewers talk down to us like we should be buying phones at 5x that 99.99. It's 2022, most of the US is strapped, maybe do vids that don't make us feel like welfare rats for buying what we can afford compared to what you're used to using?

I have one of these Motorola 5g 2021 phones mainly because Metro was giving them away with the $30.00 plan. Since T-Mobile network didn't work where I lived at the time I basically didn't use it until the 6 month period passed and I could unlock it to use other carriers which I did. After 1year I switched to Red Pocket and got the 5.5 gig plan for $20.00 and it works great on LTE using the SIM card they offered that runs on Att network. Since it's not a Att branded device I won't be able to get it to function on 5g which doesn't mean a lot to me anyway. I've found this device to be a very useful device and it also has a stylus and a few other handy gimics as well as basically being a new phone since I just started using it plus it was basically Free. I would still recommend it in 2023 and it is now on the 12 update. The 6.8 inch screen is perfect for video, good cameras. Also the Snapdragon 480 processor is strong enough to handle everything I've put it through.. Yes I like it and use it more than my iPhones 😊

I currently use this phone now and it's a solid device. The only thing I would stay this device Definitely struggles with gaming. Over time high graphic games will crash and lag like crazy and the option to increase ram does nothing.
I do a lot of emulating so a phone that can game is super important to me and this device lacks in that department so I wouldn't recommend this device if your a gamer.
I also highly dislike the lack of customization this device has. Your stuck with 5 crappy fonts that all look similar and very limited color schemes to choose from. I've seen cheaper samsung phones for half the price of this offer more than that.
But if that's not a concern and you just want a large screen size phone that can do the basics this is definitely a solid phone

I had one for over 2 years, 256GB/6GB RAM, unlocked. Good phone, 2-4 days battery life before I put Instagram and a bunch of other apps on it. Updated to Android 12 days after I got the phone. Didn’t want to pay $499 for the 2022 model which came out the same time I bought the 2021 model, which was on sale at $349 back then. I just traded in the 2021 model for a 2024 model 256GB/8GB RAM. Big improvement with P-OLED 120Hz screen and faster processor, OIS, NFC, improved camera and stylus. Vegan leather like back (not slippery) and looks and feel like my previous Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

I have not been following Motorola since around 2010-ish, when the mobile part of the company was bought by Lenovo. Do you know how the company is structured now? Is it operating fairly independently or is it just a brand that Lenovo is using? Or did they sell it again?

    • @americanparser

Actually Google didn't buy Motorola's consumer electronics division until about 2012-ish, and Google didn't sell it until about 2014-ish. So you've missed a lot.
Motorola is both. It is operating fairly independently, and still headquartered in Chicago. But it is wholly owned by Lenovo, which, by the way, has done a pretty good job maintaining the reputation of IBM's former business consumer computer brand, Thinkpad, which it bought in 2005.
Motorola products are generally well built and have Motorola's legendary signal reception. Its products are usually trendsetting, efficient, and affordable.
