I saw this video a month ago and I loved it. Now having replayed this game 4 times and seeing all 4 endings, I can now say it's the best tactical RPG that I have ever played. I will play this again in the future because the many characters involved give the game so much depth. This review really in depth made me so want to play it. Thanks, Kevin.
I'm with you Kevin. Triangle Strategy is also one of my most anticipated games of 2022. From the very first trailer & gameplay footage shown plus the fact that it's from Square-Enix, the game instantly reminded me of the legendary Final Fantasy Tactics. I know that Elden Ring has been the talk of the entire gaming world & deservedly so but Triangle Strategy also deserves as much love as well. Another epic win from the same hugely talented development team behind the brilliant Octopath Traveler. Now if only Square-Enix could next give us a remaster or remake of Final Fantasy Tactics than that would make this even better.
I love this game so much. It's a 9.5 out of 10 for me. I agree that having a movie role to go back and see cutscenes again would be nice. Thanks for video.
I would encourage you to play Final Fantasy Tactics. Apart from its unique combat, it has a story very much in line with Game of Thrones- just as deep and mature.
It’s prolly in my top 5 SRPG.. I really dunno why everyone worships FFT.. I got both the original and remake and I find it a very frustrating & clunky play.. Whereas other titles like the Fire Emblem entries & Jeanne DArc were an absolute pleasure
Loving this game. I’m on my first playthrough, haven’t had much time to play it because life but I’m loving it and I’ve been waiting for it since it was announced!
I was so hesitant to get TS since the demo left me with super mixed feelings… boy am I glad I decided to pull the trigger. It has become one of my favorite strategy TRPGs as well as Switch exclusives outright. It’s absolutely a banger. I’m almost finished with my first run and already can’t wait to do a NG+ in Japanese
I played mt first two playthrus on hard, now lv.50 ch 1 hard is a pain! Going to normal now lmao. This is a fantastic game. Im glad other tactics rpg fans are enjoying this gem. 💖💞
Played the Demo and was convinced. Im surprised how low the reviews were but idc bc its an excellent tactics game. The visuals are beautiful and the best style of 2d /3d graphic style there is imo.
I love this game. I've never played or even seen Tactics Ogre before, but I see the similarities based on the clip you showed. Triangularpath Strategies is pretty much FFT on steroids for me. I've been playing on hard and probably 3/4 of the way of my first playthrough. Funny, I've never thought about lowering the difficulty and these last couple fights been challenging(currently in one lol). Good video.
Thanks for this video! This work could totally be a good intro into tactical RPGs. After watching your video and reflecting on it though, I'm more comfortable thinking of this game as a intro to a series of games. It's got great potential and in a way has enough to carry another remake, possibly a sequel. I haven't finished the game yet, so not sure if the story will be able to be continued, but the decision making, the battle system would be equally fun with a new character set, added features ( a combo attack system like Chrono Trigger would be totally amazing!) and another landscape to work in. Thanks for the video and giving me something to hope for in the future!
I just started this last night, going in knowing there were a lot of cut scenes before getting to the meaty parts. I've only done 1 battle and I enjoyed it, being instantly reminded of FFT. I actually ended up getting the lancer prince killed, which kind of surprised me. I fully expect there to be challenging battles, which is perfect. The customization mechanics also look interesting. I have spent quite a bit of time in FFT, Tactics Ogre, and Disgaea 4. I'm really looking forward to getting into this one. I wish there were more like it.
Well I'm out unfortunately. The shimmering bloom effect from Octopath Traveler mde me feel nauseous -I've got eye damage that makes me perceive brightness levels differently, so I suspect that's the reason. I loved FF Tactis and this does otherwise look gorgeous... Hopefully someone will let me know if there's a way to turn off that bloom effect
My only experience with tactical RPGs was the original GBA Fire Emblem and Mario + Rabbids, and I was quite overwhelmed by this game, even in the demo. It's not that it's difficult or that there are many moves (there aren't in the beginning), but rather that I had no idea how to play *well*, e.g. how to position characters and such. Perhaps that's my problem, even in Advance Wars I only use mechs, tanks and rockets because there are too many variables otherwise.
My experience is similar. My only experience with SRPGs is having played several Fire Emblem games. I've just started a playthrough of TS and I feel like I understand very little about the nuances of the combat. I'm gonna keep at it though, so hopefully that changes with time
I feel that there is more cutscenes than play through, it is frustrating to me. And I feel like I can’t cut through them because I might miss out on what I need to do.
I played the game multiple times now and all I can say, It's a great TRPG. The only thing that bothered me is the restrictive class and character customization, coming from FE3H ya you feel it, but I give them that TS is more of a classic RPG mixed with TRPG so that's why the weapons are restricted, but overall a great TRPG
Loving this game so much, it has me wondering.... Am I the only one who wonders why there really hasn't been a tactics MMO where players can share a randomly generated seed world and either "PVP" a shared adventure or try to conquer the seed itself solo?
With more people playing the game, I really do hope the multiple decisions actually matter and aren't just there to sell the illusion of your choices really mattering in the long run with character arcs and events adapting to your morality. Tl;Dr Be less Three Houses, more Detroit Become Human
What's the point if you can't upgrade your characters? Thats what made FFT so good. Otherwise, I may as well just be reading a book, at least then I wouldn't have to sit there pressing the a button to advance the overwrought dialogue.
I’m the likely target audience of this video: always wanted to try and enjoy a tactics style RPG, but tend to find them overwhelming due to the very specific and foreign (to me) gameplay experience. Hearing the points you make has got my attention. But my question is this: if I play the demo, will my save file carry over to the full version of the game? I want to try before I buy, but I also don’t want to waste my time with the demo if I’m just going to end up wanting the actual game.
I’m on my first play through and maybe I need to go down to easy because I’ve been playing on normal and some of these maps have been hard asf😭 literally winning with like 2 units at some points
I've always wanted to like Final Fantasy Tactics but definitely did not enjoy some of the work that it put you thru. Good to hear this is a more welcoming "tactics."
I wish they went for British Isles for their accents instead of American. The localization is really fantastic but it just feels off. Question, I’ve just gotten to chapter 5 and was curious if there were moments where you found characters not getting enough xp in battle to unlock character side cutscenes, so you’d have to go through on another play through to unlock them?
The game looks amazing can't wait to play play it but honestly I was really hoping that it would have the job system from final fantasy Tactic Advance. Where you you pick a character and where specific moves/skills will then unlock a new job for the character change the way they play and letting them learn new moves/skills, depending on what job you set your character to.
I got it, waiting to finish the other one called Astria Acending. Lol, I played the demo and felt it was pushing linear play a little too much. It needed a dynamic choice as in all the factions should be in play much like game of thrones.
Final Fantasy Tactics is one of those games like xcom or dark souls that somehow EVERY game ever gets compared to it. Not allowing you to create custom characters is devastating for a game like this. Now every fight becomes the same, you dont create a battle strategy you just play out a premade process. Where is the strategy? In unit placement?
Played the beta, enjoyed the narrative and art style, but really dislikes the UI of the battle system and how hard to see the squares could be to just look at and figure out where exactly each space is and if you're sending your unit to the area you want them to go to. Hopefully they changed that in the final version.
If you like tactic games, check out the mobile tactics game I've been making in my channel! It's almost ready for players, would love to get your thoughts on it!
The insane amount of time between battles is a deal breaker for me. People have said upwards of an hour of story between one battle and the next?? Oh helll no
No, it's not... It's roughly 10-15 minutes(it depends if you want to watch the side story or not) people just overacting about the dialogue.. Besides if you like the story you wouldn't bother by it, and if you just want to battle, there's skip button.
It's absolutely not that long, and even taking exploration into account if you're a person who just wants to zoom through the game/story you can basically completely skip exploration, too.
In the very firt chapter it take around an hour before your first battle and after that is around 30 minutes+ on average. Not sure why people would say this is not true.
Anyone who chooses to play on hard mode already knows they're going to have to do some un-ethical s**ff. Women, children, heck! even the elderly are all fair game when it comes to grinding out XP because not only are those Boss fights tough, but you're gunna need lot's of "dropped items" to sell to the village merchants for pennies on the dollar. It's not like you can buy XP IRL from your local listings like Competitive Play Shiny Pokémon or Elden Ring Runes, lol. Boy: HEY! You remember me?! Main Character: I don't know, should I? Boy: You killed my Pa back on Level 4! Main Character: I kill lots a men, don't make me regret Sparin' Ya!
Stop comparing this to final fantasy tactics. You will be disappointed. This is square’s version of a fire emblem game. It’s similar but quite different.
not much of a tactical game. I'm around lvl 22. Haven't lost a fight. There is only 1 strategy u need to know 2 win the entire game. Don't move forward. The enemy will just come to u almost 1 by 1. And then u can just kill em easy. As 4 the story. Maybe hit yourself in the head with a hammer a few times to cause some brain damage. And then all those cliche will seem fresh and exciting. The game is a glorified visual novel with very simple tactics implemented. But that's just my opinion. And i'm a huge tactics strat game player. So it's just 2 easy 4 me. And I'm also a professional writer. So spotting a bad story is kind of my job. But games like art is completely subjective. So if u like it. That's great. And if u are having trouble with a map. Just let them come to u
This is thr worst introduction to Tactical RPGs in my opinion. It took the worst from the past 2 Fire Emblem games which is the town exploration which is unecessary in this game and its forced upn your before every battle. You also have to do 40 minutes of dialogue before evey battle, this is not right. No other tactical RPG did this. In other Tactival RPGs you spent a lot more time battleling than watching dialogue but here you breeze through every battle. I'm guessing because it's too easy and there's no perma death. The battles are fun and that saves this game but it really should be more game than visual novel. Finally, new character join you without accomplishing any quest or tasks it's not satisfying at all.
Try playing on hard. I agree about the character recruitments, it should have fights/choices and not just simple cutscenes and boom the character joins.

I love hearing your takes on RPGs! You hit on the points that are important to me for getting the game

You're right. The game wants you to focus more on how each character affect the battle, the position and all that. So good man
I am absolutely loving Wargroove 2 right now. Triangle strategy was good too, but it was a bit too narrative heavy. Great gameplay though.
FF tactics spiritual successor I love it
