Great video as always guys! Rugged Maniac is one of the most underrated OCR’s (in my opinion). Sad I couldn’t make it to this one but I’ll be running at least one or two with Rugged Maniac next year. Getting ready to head back to Vernon this weekend for my first Trifecta Weekend. Keep up the great work guys and keep inspiring!
Rugged Maniac is a great entry level OCR filling the void the demise of Warrior Dash left behind. Anyone new to the sport should start with a Rugged Maniac!
Great question. We recommend head strap for cameras. Chest rigs lead to the camera getting dirty real fast when you're crawling in the mud. You get more interference with your hands too being more in the shot.
How would you compare Rugged Maniac to Tough Mudder in terms of obstacles and general atmosphere? I did my first TM this year and would love to check this one out too!
Great question! Rugged Maniac and Tough Mudder both have the same vibe as far as general atmosphere. Both are fun, and geared toward having a good time, rather than being super competitive. Tough Mudder's obstacles are a bit more challenging compared to Rugged Maniac's. RM has some really fun obstacles, but TM's tend to be bigger in scale and harder to complete overall. RM is a great race for first timers, and really fun to run as a group on a nice hot summer day.
Another great video! Thanks for all the videos and information! So helpful! I was just ask about my weekend and when I shared with them the event and all that I personally accomplished (first ultra anything but 6th spartan ) I was told that open heats devalued the sport. Wow ok ? Briefly, What are your thoughts?
Thanks! I actually replied to this already but it seems like it didn't post. I know I got a bit wordy. First - congrats on first ultra! Not many people can push on for that many miles and finish - so IT IS a huge accomplishment! BRAVO! I couldn't disagree more with the person you were talking to... Everyone has different levels of fitness, goals, and limits. Open waves allow everyone to test themselves and are hugely necessary. and from a business standpoint... without all those open wavers paying for events... events would yield no $$ and go out of business... and then no sport. It's because of the open waves that the sport is growing and its our job to get more people racing and excited about OCR (because its awesome!).
I see you are wearing the Inov8 X talon 260 shoes you reviewed recently. How did they hold up through this race? Do you still like them? I was looking around for them but they're hard to find in any size but 14.
Loving those shoes. Have warn them for every training mile and race this season. I'd buy another pair today (if I could find them). Seems they are having a supply issue on all sizes. Definately recommend!
Agree , with Matt. The obstacle was to smooshed together though. All the hanging hardware was just too close togther - would have been a challenge if you really had to hang on and transition from one section to the next. I also liked the use of the wire fence on Great Escape... wasn't a hard obstacle, but I thought it was creative and certainly harder than a simple up and over obstacle.
Always a good time at Rugged. Great race for beginners too.
Agreed!

Perfectly stated!!
looks like fun!
It was!
I ran the 10:30am time today and there was a line at most of the obstacles so I will note to run one of the first groups of the day next year.
Right on, good plan!
Fun, not too hard, enjoyable
Totally agree
looks casual and fun
Yes, Rugged Maniac is exactly that. Well stated
Cool video
Thank you!
Which do you recommend the headset or chest piece and why?

@@OCRKings ok thank you, I’ll probably see you in September for the race. 👍🏼

Great job! By the way, are you doing the NJ Ultra Beast next week? Would love to meet you guys!
Muddy Gnomes will be there for the Trifecta. With the new Mobile Ice Bath Trailer in case you want a quick recovery ice bath after the races..
Thank you! And not this year for NJ. How about you?

What in your opinion was the hardest obstacle here?
From a technical standpoint probably barzan.

NOTED! Working on that very thing right now.
