My daughter and I ran this last Saturday 9:30 am wave in Southwick, MA! Conquered every obstacle. The Accelerator is the tallest slide I've ever seen in any Rugged Maniac. It was a lot of fun. Thank you for sharing. Until next time. Keep racing! 👊
Great job you guys! And yes, Accelerator is a big one. The speed you get on that thing is crazy. Thanks for watching, hope to see you out there one day!
Yes, this is a FUN race. The course was relatively flat and the obstacles were stacked up one after another. LOTS of water, but nothing crazy and too deep. They are smart too because you go down the slide at the end and everyone gets cleaned off. No caked on mud on my socks after this one.
Great question! Overall Spartan Race is harder than Rugged Maniac. In Rugged Maniac you do plenty of obstacles and have a great time. Unlike Spartan Race though, Rugged Maniac doesn't have the strength based obstacles like bucket carry, sandbag carry, a heavy plate drag, Hercules Hoist, etc. It also is untimed, so there is not the same competitive edge as Spartan. Furthermore, there are no penalties for failing or skipping and obstacle like there are at Spartan. If you miss and obstacle at Spartan, you have to do 30 burpees. So in short Spartan is harder, more technical, and more competitive. Rugged Maniac is a fun, muddy, good time.
Any idea if this is too much for a heart patient? I am mid 40s and had a heart attack a little over a year ago. I do cardio 3 times a week. Just curious.
This particular Rugged Maniac was on a BMX type race track. It has some slight, rolling hills, but nothing huge elevation-wise like running up a mountain. We're not doctors, so we can't definitively say "hells yeas, go for it" but this was on the less strenuous side as far as cardio goes. You know your heart and your body best. If you can do cardio that many times a week, check with your doctor and see what he/she says. If the answer is a yes, then wear a HRM, and maybe try it out. There are no penalties for skipping or failing an obstacle, so you can go out and do as much as you want/can. Above all things tho, be safe! If you do do one, if you feel the slightest discomfort or whatever, then STOP! Might be a good idea to also run with a buddy, just in case. Good luck and be safe out there. - Mack.
Great question! It varies from race to race. For this one, it was less than a quarter mile. Sometimes you can go a mile before the first obstacle. This one was relatively soon after the start gate.
Ha! Yes, good ear btw. The Accelerator 3.0 at the end was good, but the one before it (Accelerator) was better. I didn't see my crew come down, so I said "Meh" and went in for the medal. I figured we'd meet by the beer tent (and we did :-)

That looked like fun! Loved all the water obstacles and slides! Beats lugging around sandbags and buckets full of gravel. Thx for sharing!
Yes indeed!!
Wow. I wish I had that song in my head while running one of these. Love the beat.
Cool thanks!
The company I work at is taking us to one of these this coming November! Looks like fun! Can't wait
Excellent! Yes, RM is a good time. Have fun out there!

@@OCRKings how come I can't find any video of mn from this year?
It looks so fun & challenging i would like to go there with my friends
Rugged Maniac is a fun race. It is not the hardest one out there, it is just a good fun time and best to do with friends.
This dude was like “metal me!!!” Lol
:-)
Can't put my finger on why, but I really like the water obstacles!

Did he just hadouken that? 😂👍
Ha, YES!
@@OCRKings i may be doing the upcoming Rugged Maniac event. I'll hadouken anything that gets in my way in your honor 😀👍
Bryan Fabian Dude that is awesome! Love it!
What are some differences between this race and the Spartan race in terms of difficulty level?

I think Spartan has the higher difficulty level due to their prolonged elevation increases and weighted carries.
The claustrophobia obstacle got an audible Whoa out of me
It was a bit tight and totally dark. But it wasn't too bad.

@@OCRKings thank you! I have a cardiologist appointment in 2 weeks. I will ask then. Appreciate the feedback!
Are those JR ocr kings!?
Yup. Kids really wanted to run this one. Glad they did. They loved it.
@@OCRKings looks like they were killing it!
Thanks!
Nice work!
Thank you!
3:53 way to release your Ryu!
GOOD EAR!!! That is a running tradition with knocking inflatable things out of the way. Some Street Fighter reference inevitably comes out. :-)
I’ll be doing that at the next Rugged!
Awesome!!
Is it like spartan race if you can't finish an obstacle you have to do burpee?
No, if you miss an obstacle at Rugged Maniac, there are no penalties. No burpees at Rugged Maniac.
@@OCRKings thank you my wife now can join me on this. Spartan was kinda too much for her. Gonna join this March here at SF. Thanks again sir
Excellent! Hope you guys have a great race! Be safe, have fun, and check back in if you can and let us know how it went.
@@OCRKings definitely we will have fun by watching your vid makes me more excited to try this one out.
How soon into the 5k course does the 1st obstacle start and what’s the dist/time interval between obstacles - roughly ? Thank you in advance.
Great question! It varies from race to race. For this one, it was less than a quarter mile. Sometimes you can go a mile before the first obstacle. This one was relatively soon after the start gate.
What the heck? When I did this in 2018 at Pull Your Weight we had to lift 2 chains at the same time.
That would have been better. For us it was just pull one chain and it was very light. Two would have been more of a challenge.
@@OCRKings I have done Spartan Sprints, and those are much more difficult then even what I did for Rugged.
Right on
Did you say meh at 10:55?
Ha! Yes, good ear btw. The Accelerator 3.0 at the end was good, but the one before it (Accelerator) was better. I didn't see my crew come down, so I said "Meh" and went in for the medal. I figured we'd meet by the beer tent (and we did :-)
Super easy obstacles
Yes, this was an easier race overall. Still fun tho.
Is it ok to wear Combat Boots
Stranger Thins Crack Absolutely yes!
“Feet on the horizontal”. Lol, if your partner/ kid don’t know that, lol....
LOL
Was it still 5k?
Yes it was 5k, or very close to it. About 3 miles.
