Awesome! I just started out with OpenToonz, and this has taught me more in 15 minutes than a class would in a week. Looking very much forward to watching all your other OT tutorials.
This is what all technical tutorials should be like! Fantastic. What you need is a TEACHER, not necessarily an expert. Nearly all other tutorials have experts who do not know how to teach - so don't.
Another great video. I really like the way you break things down to the basics and don't assume the viewer already knows all the prerequisites. Please keep the videos coming!
Thank you very much for your kind and motivating comment. I really appreciate it! :D more videos are in the works. Please consider sharing my content on social media and in forums if you know of people there that could use the information :) Have a fantastic day and keep animating!
Well done! I learned about vector graphics on a Mac, plus with illustrator running off of a floppy disk... I turned my boss onto Flash, and that was a cool to take advantage of vector movement compared to bitmap movement at the time ( early 90s/ Dial up speeds). This is the closest thing I've seen to that in open source...
Excellent series! I have a light 3D animation background but want to learn 2D for personal projects, so your tutorials are a real blessing! Keep up the great work!
This video is actual *gold.* I had a few questions about the interpolation in Opentoonz and this answered all of them! I'm also glad that this video shows the basics of animation itself, so I can link it to anyone from any level! Well Done!
HI - quick question for you or any other helpful people out there, I'm just getting into animation and Opentoonz and so far have been using Affinity Designer to make my static cartoons. Do you think I should keep using AD to make multiple frames (then import them into OT), or should I design them from scratch in OT?
Your videos are so helpful! I have a question. if I want to animate character, with moving arms/legs/etc, how should I do that? when should I fill it up with color?
please help..i cant do squash and stretch on the keyframed balls..once i change a nect frame,it updates everything,,so its just an oval going up and down,, idk what to dooooo QWQ
Hi, great video, does anybody know if we can copy and duplicated the keyframes on the curve editor? In Blender software it is very easy to copy keyframes directly from the curves, but I do not find a way to do it in opentoons, if somebody knows please share.
Can you animate blinking eyes on a separate level/layer? And then make the character move but also blink independently? So that I don't have to manually draw them open/close their eyes every 3 frames? I know that there is a way to animate symbol separately in Adobe flash, but I was wondering if a similar feature exists in Opentoonz? Thank you!
Nice great video. But does anyone know if you can manipulate individual elements in that same layer /column using the motion path tool. like if you wanted to use a motion path to make the ball wink.
Way too compliacted for what it is. This program needs a good dev team to get in there and trim the mountains of fat. In terms of capability and ease of use, Flash was way ahead ot his over 20 years ago. A 7 minute process for what is essentially just a motion tween. Waste of time, I might try adobe animate. Even that looks crap, though.

Sounds a bit like our video on "Good Artists vs. Good Teachers!" :D ua-cam.com/video/v4cCeZKvmPA/v-deo.html Agreed.
MAN! OpenToonz is so amazing. I can see using this for motion graphics besides character animation
