I don't know why, but an RS1 is a locomotive that would look perfectly at home out in the middle of a forest rail line with a rake of staked log cars behind it.
lov these old alcos shame too many of them ended up in the scrap heep they could have been repowered with new technoligy and give a secound life this looks to be in good shape it really doesn't smoke much
Beautiful RS-1, love the sound of the 539T.
Fond memories of watching the ponies race the Night Freight on the track behind their pasture.❤
I had the very good fortune to ride behind this engine from Bellows Falls to Chester, back in the summer of 1990.
Love the sound of the Alcos
Reminds me of growing up along the Susquahanna in the 1950's

Dont think I've ever seen an Alco smoke less.....
....and that's a GOOD thing. Most are so poorly maintained that it's all they do, which isn't they way they're SUPPOSED to run.
It’s had some engine work done over the years. My girlfriend and her dad work for VRS and he has a piston out of it in the spare room at his house
I think 405 has the record for the longest lasting Leslie s3j on a railroad.
