Dear Luca, yet another wonderful video explaining important details of wool distaff spinning! Your videos are an important report on what you have actually seen Italian women ( with unbroken spinning traditions) doing with their hands. So very helpful. Your precise spinning skills are inspiring and impressive. . Signed missingspindle / Lois Swales
I'm so happy I found this video! Since any form of fiber arts is typically practiced by women, it makes me happy to see men practicing it as well. The tools you use are beautiful, and I'll be honest, I find your voice rather soothing. P.S. I love the curls on your mustache.
Ciao, Luca! Thanks so much for the demonstration. It's really great to know how to do that. Looking for your vid. on dressing the distaff. Wish me luck. Grazie mille! Ti amo!!!
This video may be 5 years old, but I just found it now as I was looking for a video on using spinning sticks and distaffs- I yours popped up! Your plying is beautiful, I'm looking to get some new spindles and never knew about the thinner spindles with the attachable whorls, I'm going to subscribe if your still doing videos- greetings from NYC!! 😄🤗🗽💖🌹
You’re so multi talented. I just happened across this video because I am working with a distaff and wanted a little help. And I recognized your voice from FR. 😂 Thanks for the video. Super helpful!
This is the best of about 5 videos I've looked at. He shows you clearly his right hand twisting. It looks as if his left hand pulls fiber off the bundle on the spindle. Also I had trouble seeing how he added more yarn onto the end of his last session of spinning. Am I right that he would have twisted them the same as when he actually goes on spinning?
Hi! I just saw you on the foundations revealed youtube thingy... and immediately knew that it was your spinning video's I saw! (I saw lots of videos about spinning..) you' re amazing :)
Hi Luca, I have been trying to find spindles like this for a couple of years now, because of this video. My family came from Ripa Teatina in Chieti, and they are of particular interest to me. Have even tried to find someone to make them here in Canada, but no such luck. Searched online in my very limited Italian. Any ideas? I have loved your work for years and years, with FR and first on Victorian Farm. ❤️
How cool this is! I am going to have to try this. I am still learning but one of my concerns was small amount of fiber needing to be joined. This seems to give you a longer continuous yarn.
Buonosera Luca! Where in Italia I can meet people who spin? And where can I buy typical italian spindles and wool? I love Italia and the beautyful language! I´m learning the language, too. I would love to spin with italian stuff
Hi Luca. Do you do any videos in Italian? I am a spinner with an interest in its history, especially outside my native UK, and I am also a not-yet-very-proficient Italian speaker. It's very difficult to get the technical terms in Italian even from my big dictionary.
Suoer cool video. I had no idea what a distaff, or whorl was before today!! I have a super fluffy dog with amazing hair. I'm going to try this with her hair.... P.S. Cotton candy P.S.S. Has anyone mentioned the bulge in that whirrrl?? whew
Dear Luca, I very much enjoyed your video and look forward to watching your others. I am a spinner myself and have a dear friend of mine visiting Italy soon. I'd love for him to bring me home an Italian drop spindle. He'll be in the Tuscany region. Do you know if anywhere he could get one for me while he is there? Thank you.
God, I love you and please forgive me for all of the i cants and the shut ups and curse words that I have ever said in life in Jesus name. Amen. I’m praying that we all stop saying shut up and I can’t and cursing in Jesus name. Amen 🙏
I love the idea of replacing the whorl as the cop grows - wish I could find one like that!

Bonjour, supers vidéos. Ou peut-on acheter le fuseau ? Merci.
Good job

Grazie luca! Ho comprato il pezzo che regge la fibra e non sapevo come usarlo!
Luca, you know that you can do a half hitch. The roll is called butterflying up. I use a Turkish spindle.
Victoria hi, I do the half hitch with the other types of spindle I use on some other videos
Is there a place to buy the Italian spindle ? I am living in USA
Unfortunately not. My spindles are old. I know some people that could reproduce them, but because of the metal part it's not cheap.
Where can I get that kind of distaff?
I made mine myself, I do make them for sale occasionally.

Bel video. Ma perché parli inglese se sei italiano?
