Thank God for people that do this. A lot of work to protect our natives
I love how you can hear the martins while doing the video! Great information! Thank you!
@Cherie McCollough - they always have to add in their $.02! Thanks for watching!
Also i can see the fencing around the martin houses. Is that to keep the hawks at bay? You go all out!!
@bill stewart - the cages were built to keep a Great Horned Owl out of my purple martin housing. Haha - yes, I had to go all out, or I would have lost my colony at the rate the GHO was raiding my gourds. :( Thanks for the comment!
where did you get that separating predator tube?
I got that predator guard (cylinder) from Troyer's Bird's Paradise - you can call them at 800-872-0103 and request a catalog.
Have you every had any martins fall into the netting whenever they fight?
Would love to see a video on how you did your owl cages!
Kakie, here’s a link to the video for that. If you have Facebook, please join our group and we can help with any other questions you might have!

Great video. I’m going to make one of these. What are the black things on the 16” arms? They are spaced apart on each arm. How do you keep the stop pin from moving out of the hole?
Yes I’d like to also know what the black things are on the arms? What is their purpose. Also, why do you need the metal predator baffle with the netting? Won’t the netting alone keep snakes or raccoons at bay?
That's very creative. I hope that wind doesn't blow it down. Good luck.
try our comastbo squirrel spikes to protector bird house ,they could avoid something climb up as double irregular coverage will be workable
Where do you live that you have to make these crazy contraptions to keep snakes away
She lives in Missouri.
What are the size of your holes in net?
@Bob Abbitt - 1/2" squares. With multiple layers, it is sufficient for the size of the snakes here.
Do you have to remove guards in order to do nest checks
No, they slide down to the top of the winch after the stovepipe guard is removed.
