Justin Baker i know right? some of these censors are warrented (resident evil 7 as an example) but for the majority of them ( mostly yugioh and other minior changes) who is really going to care that their is some clevage? i watched fairy tail at 10 years of age and never even noticed the cleavge.
Censoring anime game typically done in NA to keep the low age rating and reach broader audience.
^This exactly, Bandai Namco even gave an official statement saying that if they were to let the original scene in it would receive a higher rating and they wouldn't be allowed to publicly display the game anymore during events such as E3 etc.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but iirc dismemberment is censored because the Yakuza also do dismemberment as punishment and the Japanese government censors anything that glorifies Yakuza practices.

I think the difference is that, in Tales, that violence wasn't quite so gratuitous and portrayed in a more dramatic manner (with the act itself only being shown via silhouetted figures). As for why it's censored in the international version, I'm guessing it's just because Bamco of America are prudes (though probably moreso the Namco half, since they've also censored violence from the Xenosaga games IIRC).
A lot of it has to do with the targetet agerange. For example everything that has any dismemberment in japan gets an automatic 18+ rating. That's for example the reason why in every Dragonball game Future Gohan is never depicted with just one arm, and always has both. If he had only one it would be an 18+ game.
I think the Tales of censorship is probably the most harmful, one of the most emotionally powerful scenes was entirely removed from the game.
I hate senseless censorship with a burning passion.

Censorship is cancer that needs to die. Enough with the government deciding what we can or can't see. We choose what we want to see. If a game's cover says it's rated M I already know what I'm in for, don't dillute the experience for fear that childrens' innocent and fragile minds might get corrupted by a piece of media they aren't even supposed to touch.
This has nothing to do with the government. M ratings are given by the ESRB, which is a private organization run by the video game industry.

I can only speak for the US, but in the US we have no government censorship and the government has never prevented a game from being sold. Some countries like Australia and New Zealand do, but not the US. Game publishers voluntary censor some sexual content so it doesn't get an AO rating, because major retailers voluntarily decided not to sell AO games (it's not a government mandate). Nintendo let Doom and Binding of Isaac on the Switch. Additionally, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was unedited. Nintendo may have lightened up a bit since XCX and that one Fire Emblem abomination.
Yes, but that's mostly because Treehouse kept its grubby mitts off of Xenoblade 2, so far as I'm aware. However, Treehouse still exists and it's a cancer on the industry. I'm actually rather relieved to see more Switch games aren't supporting multi-lingual options, since that'll ensure some titles are at least good to import rather than being screwed over worldwide to appease some tumblrites.

Having a mature rating for games are a joke when publishers won't developers are too scared to take a chance and make an adults only game. Publishers seem to think just kids play games these days and not adults.
Well Criminal girls was also heavily censored. I usually buy those games but this year was practically barren for me game wise if you exude Yakuza series which was censored in the past. Whats the point of even releasing the game if they are censoring the only appeal they have to differentiate them self's from the competition?

I will agree and you're correct. This past year I did not buy many Japanese games and in large due to the fact that the vast majority of them are censored. The big companies censor for fun and Nitendo is just doing their own thing, makes me think I should just quit playing that market and focus on western and indie games.

Nier was censored and I'm sure if i done research I would be able to find some things there. I do own Yakuza kiwami and as for xenoblade 2 it is unknown as they are using "localization" on it so it is still unknown which part was censored if ti was.

To be fair house party is a terrible game not only in terms of game-mechanics, but in terms of game-content as well.
Most of the characters are clichè and unlikable; jocks, sluts, and a horny protagonist. The only one I liked was the blonde girl who sits by herself upstairs.

Regarding Raid:WW2: Nazi related dialogue has been readded during gameplay and only the cutscenes still have Nazi-free dialogue. Those are still censored fully most likely due to the devs not wanting to refilm those scenes again to only not show Swastikas.
What is it with our western countries censoring nudity. Don't they realise that most of these games are for older people that have probably watched porn before so they know nudity. I can understand yu gi oh since that is for everyone to play.

That really sucks for them; that game was possibly my favourite in the franchise (which is my my second favourite video game franchise) and I would be outraged if my country banned it.
Also, the Tales of Berseria one still seems weird to me; to me our version seems more graphic and I really wish we got a developer statement as to why this change makes any sense to them.
Yeah, V3 was banned due to an at the time recent murder involving 17 year old killing an 8 year old.

Honestly, for a lot of German people seeing nazi symbolism is just kinda painful I think, so it's not like I don't understand it.
Does that really justifying removing all Nazi imagery in a WWII game that isn't completely in the Pacific Theater? It's a historical setting, so, regardless of emotions, historical accuracy should be a high priority. Would a game set during the U.S. Civil War be without Confederate images because people find it more than "kinda painful"?

Japan loves to test the limits of what is allowed there in sexual appeal. Like as you see in this video, they don't allow nudity on consoles, but doesn't mean they can't stay just right below the limit. American companies are just fully allergic to any nudity even if it's covered. Japan is against over violence. They have the right idea on making games. I take partial nudity overkill violence anyday.

There is one example of censorship I completely understood, and that was Call of Duty in Germany. Given what they went through, I can imagine that the need to prevent it from ever happening again would be living in their heads rent-free 24/7. I think it was mainly because it was a child. Most western countries are very sensitive when it comes to hurting children, which is why you never see them in games like GTA.

The new Halloween movie from 2018 had a kid’s head being beaten to death on the side of a car door. A certain episode of CryptTV had 3 kids being mauled to death by some hellish creature.
The scene changed in Tales of Berseria is actually more violent than the one removed. It's one of the rare instances where the change actually does not not harm the original intent and actually emphasizes the brutality even more. The way they did it also makes sense from a story perspective.

1. Nexon's Hyper Universe game, still not available in the Southeast Asia region, still struck me due to the containment of the lustful content. I just wanted to try out that side-scrolling MOBA.
2. Fight of Gods, published by PQube Games, is still banned in the Muslim-majority nation of Malaysia. Heck, the Santa Claus reveal trailer addressed that (and Dark Souls comparisons) in Santa's naughty list.

House Party can be uncensored with a text file in the game folder
House Party shouldn't even be on this list since it should've been censored from the get-go considering Valve's policy on family friendly shit. It is worth noting that the developers of House Party released a free patch that removes the censorship. It's literally an empty text file called "You're Welcome.txt"
