In this drum lesson, I will be showing you how to add a little spice to your Gadson grooves. This little groove embellishment works great in those verse turnarounds where instead of going to the chorus you just repeat the phrase. I hope you enjoy the drum lesson and I look forward to seeing what you guys & gals do with it :)

I've been learning drums for 20 years and this is the ONLY UA-cam channel where I regularly find really cool licks and grooves.
Your teaching style rocks.
Keep them coming!
Yes this lick is the stuff, thanks for going to such lengths to provide free content
I'd probably get fired for a gig, but I'll get fired with sauce and style. Thanks, Mike, you're the best.
Btw, thanks for taking your time and watching my post on fb. It really made my day.
Saludos desde México!
I don’t get why anyone would get fired for this
For every lesson he releases on UA-cam I always watch them and think, oh I should be able to play that no problem. Then I sit down at the kit and 20 minutes of cursing ensues. Thanks for the frustration! (Mean that in a good way)
drummer265 LOL! Well if it makes you feel any better, it took me a hell of a lot more than 20 min. to learn this :)
Your very welcome

I started drumming in 4th grade with the rudiments and a cheap drum pad in 4th grade. In middle school I joined jazz band, but only to bang on a kit so I could play Stone Temple Pilots and Nirvana songs with my buddies. We played in an old horse stall across from the chicken coop in a barn in Western Massachusetts. It was perfect, except I didn't have any proper lessons. Now, over 20 years later I'm learning new technics from your lessons and others on youtube. This was the first video that brought me back to the kit and made me take practicing seriously for the first time in my life. I never thought that I would enjoy drumming again like I am at 36. I'm teaching my seven year old girl the rudiments and the basics. It's brought us together like nothing else. Thank you Mike!
This is killer! Thanks again, Mike. You have given me so much to practice over the years, and your goodhearted nature is always inspiring as a fellow teacher. Side note, the Gadd flutter lick is also based off of interrupted doubles. Once I get this down I gotta see about messing with both ideas to create something new. Thanks again.
thanks again Mike,i bought your Linear book almost 2 years ago and go to it every day,you such a great communicator when you are teaching, wish you would come out with another book, don't stop
Wonderful and tasty grooves as always. Love the way you treatment the drumset..
Gracias por las lecciones! Me sirven de mucho! Saludos desde México!!
The surprise triplet fill at about 3:53 is so sexy! It totally warranted the ShorYuKen Super Combo finish at the cymbal. I never knew Street Fighter was so into drumming...until now.
So happy you're back Mike!! :D
Been watching some of your saucy fills you teach us :D
Love it :)
Yeah, I like this! I'm gonna do it. Thanks Mike.
Awesome! Can't wait to get behind my kit
After I saw this, I sat on my Drums... as I often do after watching You, and I had instantly a great time. This is something "made" for me! It made my day, thank you, always! Love

Right after you hit it I said to myself damn, then you pointed it out. Lol. We all have that perfect tom sound in our head and that was it. I want to give it a hug. Lol.
I like the name "Inverted hot sauce" because this lesson is fire! Great job!

This is so damn sick.
Super tasty groove with the spicey meat sauce on it!
Okay, great lesson! I liked it because it was a humbling experience for me, as I learned that 4 years of drumming isn’t enough for everything. Time to lower my ego a bit 😂
waoooo, spicy! love it... going to practice.. bye!
Nice!
Missing some of the older lessons and behind the scenes videos. Any chance of seeing those again???
HELL YEAH!!!
Fucking YEAH! You show ‘em Mike!

Hi Mike,
I've got huge Problems with the double bass drum kick while getting faster. Do you play with double bass drum pedals? Thanks a lot for this awesome groove! Florian
Love from Ohio bro!
I can tell you drank your green tea prior to filming by the way that you did an upper cut to your cymbal. Quite full of energy.
g'dang those hihats sound good!
That's what I call an advertisement, Mike! Excellent work!
best drummer in the world IMO
domoAVA Thanks for saying that, but I’ll happily settle for being “one” of your personal favorites :)
Mike J

I’m glad I was taught to play open hand as my foundation

Why so many thumbs down? This is a quality video, with great sound and a really neat fill explanation.
At first I thought: advanced my ass, no metric modulations nor polyrhythmic stuff. Then I tried learning this sequence. Now I know why it's advanced! The whole thing together is quite the figurative "tongue btwister". It's complicated to memorize and play fluently. Never dare I pre judge advanced drum lesson claims. This is indeed advanced and I now realised my over confidence was my down fall. Working on this now and delighted to learn something new for me. Thanks
Groovin
Someone grab a fire hose, we need to cool things down in here 🔥 😄👍 Love the three in the right hand, effortlessly played 👌✅
On the two high hat and kick hits is he using the slide technique at high speeds Someone please let me know
Hey I liked the first!
What is that snare drum? Damn, that’s sweet!
Eric Weber Ya, she’s outrageous! That’s a 5X14 A&F Raw Steel :)

LOL! You can get it in 2015 :)
I dig the slider for the camera off the right of the floor Tom. What kind of slider is it?
Neil Holloman Drums Hey Neil... I have a few different sliders but that one is called the One Man Crew slider by Redrock. Hope that helps :)

Mike Johnston Dig it. Thanks.

I love hot sauce, Mike.
When do I hit the BD
Oh yeah I like that
👏👏
3:54 hell ya lol
I like grooves and hot sauce so time to watch a video obv.
LOL, seems pretty logical to me :)
Cool vid. Would of preferred you to throw a SM57 on that iPad because that metronome app is the real reason we are here.
It's the only reason anyone watches my videos, lol :)
Was cracking up when you were talking about that in the MDPC lool
Yeah, what metronome app are you using again?? 😬
👌
Does anyone know what those hi hats are?
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
The snare sounds great, but doesn't the rim eat stick for lunch and the claw would always be a worry. Does sound great though.
okay i was looking for this for a while because on my first drum lesson I could do this
I really like your videos and your book is “Linear drumming”. Thank you and greetings from Russia! Come to us! 😊
Simon, thank you so so much! I really appreciate it :)

Thx Mike!
Can someone please tell me where I can get the app that shows the beat numbers? Put a link please!
Watch the whole video, lol. I actually talk about it :)
Never mind, I saw it now. Unfortunately you cannot download that app. It's gone. I can't believe no other metronomes have the beat displayed like that :(
Sounds more like gadd-a-diddles 2.0 to me, juicy!
UserNameJemand I’ll take it :)
OMG! My pleasure. It's a honor for me! )
Damn Gina--///awesome
Ngl great amazing video and I’m not hating but I’m not a massive fan of the hi hat it sounds almost to crisp😂 anyway that’s just my preference great video nun the less thanks now I’m grooving
Mike or others... does Groove Scribe have limitations?
Yes, it currently can not cook you breakfast. Are there other limitations that you are asking about? :)
Mike J
www.mikeslessons.com
Ha, touche. Right. .
So I guess I'll try using it to transcribe a few songs I'm trying to learn which have some challenging rock drumming (odd times, some polyrhythms, etc)... and that'll help me come up with specific questions. It looks pretty awesome at first glance though. I'm still learning theory, so I think this'll help!
Enjoy my friend. Make sure to right click on the notes to get the full menu (ghost note, flam, accent, buzz, cross stick)
