I’ve had arthritis for twenty years. Hip and knee and hands. I was taking 800 Ibuprofen daily for two years. The doctor put me on Meloxicam. The pain is considerably less but not perfect. I was a little concerned because of all the warnings about heart and stroke effects but Ibuprofen has similar effects as well. I like that its a once a day pill; I was taking Ibuprofen twice a day. I’m allergic to opiates. I suffered with that fifteen years ago when I injured my back. The side effects were miserable. Meloxicam side effects are much less for me.
I take this for my AS and you’re right it’s not perfect. It’s ok, ibuprofen is useless. I’m scared to use Opioids given the clear addiction problems. 🙄
I take it for arthritis, going from Alieve. Ibuprofen just didn't work long enough, and was rough on my stomach. Had to take alieve once a day at night in an attempt to get any sleep, because as soon as the Ibuprofen wore off, I was wide awake. Talked to the doctor about it, and she gave me a month to try over getting injections in my spine. Had a spinal tap. Was not eager to reexperience that unless it was a last option. I'm not even afraid of needles. I have a lot of heart conditions in my family, too, but as you said it's a concern with any pain medication. Meloxicam is supposed to be safer than alieve, from my research. Time to see if my experience lines up now.
A doctor just gave me this for SEVEN herniated discs - did absolutely nothing - he said to take it when needed - not needed daily. A waste of my day going to that guy
Coming in a little bit late but, Thanks for sharing you’re experience with Meloxicam! I’ve tried it before, still cannot remember if it worked for me? Starting again, per Dr. it really sucks to say the least. When some assses!? Screw it up for people who really need pain medication! I’m a nurse, and I really know what Dr’s AND Pharmacists! Think! And it’s all kinds of crap! They absolutely were trained to shun upon, When NEEDING! the Oxycodone rather than WANTING? When you’re Dr. finally proscribes it. Then filling that SAME prescription, then the pharmacy issues. And they look at you from head to toe! Hands, nails, clothes, face, actions! Get a great, Top Pain Management Dr. have your PCP. Refer you one! If you haven’t already? Thank you for reading my little book. Stay Safe!
My GP prescribed it for my left Gluteal muscle tendonitis. I had tooo bad pain lately and even struggled with changing sides in bed. Working well with 2nd dose
meloxicam is working for me. but i have headaches and stomach aches, it doesnt work very well. and is messing with my body chemistry. swollen lymph nodes and my bms are beyond uncomfortable
I actually got prescribed Meloxicam 15mg after being discharged from Epworth hospital after my adrenal tumour surgery. I think it's for reducing the pain associated with my incisions swelling.
I can believe it! I was prescribed 7.5 mg for arthritis in my back causing mobility issues. It was causing ibs, as the stuff around my intestines was angry. Cleared up in a day, and the pain, except for some burning pain, was gone in 6 hours.
stupid internet says not only is it an anti inflammatory, but "Meloxicam is a strong painkiller that must be prescribed by a doctor". Is it like an oxy pain killer, or only pain killer because it reduces swelling?
Would meloxicam be effective for a herniated disc? I ask because I've had a clinical diagnosis of chronic right-sided sciatica/radiculopathy and the meloxicam does a pretty good job for my pain. But I haven't had an MRI and I'm inclined to believe that maybe my problem stems more from the sacrum/SI joint, but this is speculation. It would seem to me that meloxicam would work more effectively for an arthritic or inflamed joint more so than for a disc herniation, but I'm not exactly sure.
I was prescribed Meloxicam the other day for my herniated disc. I’m on day four and it’s definitely helping. I think the reason it works for a herniated disc is that the disc is pressing on nerves and tissue, which causes inflammation, and from what I understand the meloxicam dulls the nerve endings and lessens the inflammation.
My doctor prescribed me a week worth of meloxicam (15mg) for my horrible foot pain, I take it for two days and then I get better so I stop taking it. My foot hurt so bad again so I’m taking it again, after reading so many side effects of NSAIDS I’m kinda scared taking it. Should I continue the prescription or should I stop once my pain is getting better?
If it's working let your doctor know. They can prescribe more or talk to about how to use it long term or what to watch out for. I just got diagnosed with arthritis, and have apparently been dealing with that and a twisted spine since I was a child. Turned into a disability when I could no longer climb the stairs in my house. I would also jump like you slugged my arm if you walked past me. Just the sight of people was painful! From what I understand of the medication, it blocks the receptors that cause swelling and pain by sticking to them first. Did nothing for the burning causing the muscle pain, but it's more tolerable now that I can move. My pain actually started in my foot, like a really bad plantar fascitis. I was walking on day, set my foot down, and it popped, putting me on the floor in blinding pain. Once it subsiding, the tightness went away and I could walk unaided again. That was a year before my diagnosis and I just didn't have money to see the doctor. A few years of unemployment will do that to a person. If you can, get a longer prescription and take it. It takes longer than a couple days for your foot to heal from the damage it was doing to itself. Can't blame you for being cautious, though. I get stomach problems taking Alieve for too long, and had to ask since it was the only thing touching the pain. Meloxicam is supposed to be gentler than Alieve, if that helps your concerns. Only to find how it will affect you is to give a try long term. Good luck, and I hope you find relief!
If you feel better stop taking it. Just take it on a need to basis whenever you need it don’t over do it bc it’s a strong nsaid and comes with many side effects
I have been taking melódicamente for my knee and instability chondromalacia I believe, it seems to be blocking the pain but still get numbness and tight muscles. What does Meloxicam exactly do? Does it block pain signals sent to the brain or just reduce inflammation?
I have asthma ...and no Knee Cartilage. So given this anyways... Its resently causing Wheezing .. I think I stopped it 2 days ago .. I am going to keep exerciseing and use Tynol.
but is you're pain worth going thru without trying this for its benefits, I've been so much in knee pain, UT I'm feeling better, I'd rather risk pain free side benefits over the worry of the side effects of medication
Thanks ! Much For The Infomation On This Drugs As My Husband Is Started It Awhile Ago So Hoping It Doesnt Take His Life ! For Heaven's Scakes !! So Am Saving This So That He Can Hear Of Youve Got To Say, Thanks !! Again Susan B.
I cannot find any information on when to know if its expired: i'm a wildlife carer and hold old bottles of meloxicam for any future animals. Theres no expiry on the bottle. if its cloudy should i toss it?
It is not recommended you drink alcohol with this or other NSAIDs, so it is bet to wait 24 hours after taking. Alcohol increases the risk of stomach bleeding and other side effects. That being said, most people taking meloxicam can have an occasional drink or two without any issues. Be sure to speak with your healthcare provider if uncertain.

Not necessarily better or worse for inflammation, it seems t o have fewer side effects when taken long term. The effect on inflammation should be about the same.
Naproxen sux lol had the 500 mg. I got the meloxicam 7.5 feeling better in 2 days my pectoralis major was inflamed for like 3 months terrible chest pains breathing. Also got diganosed with cardiomypathy. But yeah the meloxicam actually is working for me. And my pain was pretty bad its still there but its going away. Naproxen did nothing for me tho.
Meloxicam 7.5 mg is so much better then Naproxen 375mg. my personal experience
it's like taking 3-4 Naproxen, so, of course

It is a wonder drug for me when my back flares up. I feel a benefit in just a few hours after the first pill. 3 days later, and I am feeling about 80%
It works for herniated discs. I take it for that. I didn’t used to work on me before but i started it again this year and it works

From what I've read the range is up to ten days. So I would say yes, but consult your doctor also.
i take meloxicam once every 10 days (15 mg dose pill). that also puts me at risk for heart problems? such low frequency
Thank you ❤️
Doesn’t seem to work for my lower back pain been taking it over a week now.
If it gets worse or stays consistent consult your doctor, as you may need a CT or MRI.

How does its effect on blood pressure compare to that of ibuprofen when taken long term?
Meloxicam general affects blood pressure less than ibuprofen when used long-term. It is a good idea to monitor blood pressure when taking any NSAID.
I was taking naproxin......is this better for inflamation....
Not necessarily better or worse for inflammation, it seems t o have fewer side effects when taken long term. The effect on inflammation should be about the same.
My dr said he wouldnt prescribe me naproxen due to the causing of stomach ulcers so he prescribed me meloxicam instead
