  • Here are our travel tips for exploring the south coast of Iceland in just one weekend, or 48 hours. Everyone told us December wasn't a good time to go, but we loved our winter trip to Iceland. It's a completely different experience to going in the summer, but so so beautiful. Whether it's your first time in Iceland or you just want to venture out of the Golden Circle, we hope you find these tips useful.
We highly recommend hiring a car and driving yourself. Get out of Rekyavik and head to Hofn. See the crashed plane, the black sand beach, stop in Vik and hang out at the Diamond Beach.

Nice! I recommend good, small tour the 1st time to Iceland. The landscape is so unique, and potentially life threatening, tourists need the information. Their history, and the reason for the fairy stories...fascinating! I really love the people as well. If you slowdown, and make the effort, they are so honest, and lovely. There’s a super cool music scene, and Iceland Airwaves music festival. I’ll probably go back next year.

You're such an Iceland expert! Totally agree with getting to know the people, I spent a couple of days longer in Iceland before we went for this drive and it was so nice to hang out with Icelandic people. Next time, we want to make it the whole way around the circular road!

We Film Things I’ve only been twice, but I’ve known people from Iceland for 20 years. They feel like tourism has taken over their country, and no one cares to get to know them. If you sit, have a beer and chat, they appreciate it a lot.

is the hike out to the plane crash worth it? i’m visiting in july and trying to figure out if it’s worth skipping a few waterfalls

Hmmm, as always it depends. Personally, I'd recommend the plane as something a bit different. The waterfalls are very impressive though. we've seen them before. The one thing I wouldn't miss if you get the chance is walking on a glacier
