    INCREDIBLE video, just what I needed! How you were able to structure that six months so well is beyond me 🤯

    I think this is a very smart way to approach figuring out a job. Seems like we should all try multiple jobs and training in different areas in school to see what we like. It's crazy we're supposed to know what we want before we've even tried it or experienced the reality of something. Especially if we're doing a degree in something and then once we start we realise it wasn't for us. Seems like work experience in lots of areas would be really beneficial. My school gave us just one work experience placement and i wasn't sure what i wanted to do, so i just chose primary school. Basically cos i had no clue what my options were really.

    • @WeFilmThings
      @WeFilmThings  Рік тому

      Yes, I agree. I did a one week work experience placement when I was at secondary school - it's a nice idea, but realistically one week isn't (usually) enough to decide on a job as the "responsibilities" you'll get aren't realistic and I was personally too young to appreciate the week / what I needed to do to get a real idea of what the job is like. I do think that people who do a gap year between secondary school and university are onto something though, depending on how they use that time!

    This was so incredibly helpful! I just quit my job with similar goals - exploring my interests and building a plan for a career. But I am a bit overwhelmed and don’t even know where to begin. So I will definitely make use of your worksheets!
    It’s so cool to see that it worked out for you and wish you all the success! Looking forward to following your journey as a freelancer :))

    Hi Eliska! Thank you so much for posting this video. It gave a clearer idea of what change might look like. As for the goal tracker and planing, Lavendaire has a workbook called artist of life that comes with different prompts on visualising what your “dream life” could be (great for self discovery step) and keeping track of the goals you make for yourself monthly, quarterly and yearly, so I def recommend people check out!

      Hi Aimee, thanks so much for watching! I really enjoy Lavendaire and also MuchelleB on UA-cam. I think they’re both great for general life goal planning and productivity. I’ve found books more helpful for structuring my practical steps with freelancing and setting up a business, namely Atomic Habits, Profit First and the Lean Startup 😊

    What a fantastic video! I love how structured it was and that you took the time to plan things out. I'm planning a similar change with some long term debt (that I am able to take care of for a while I think) but the job change is needed because we can't be in an unhappy place for too long

    Great video Eliska! 🥳 I was one of those people who asked for a follow up a long while back, so thank you for doing one! 😀 I would love if you could dive deeper on the topic of exploring your interests - so for example, how did you decide what interests you wanted to explore to begin with? How did you go about trying them out? And once you did, how did you determine which one was the one you felt confident in pursuing? It would be awesome to hear the finer details from someone who’s successfully gone through the journey, as it’s a bit of a grey area in my mind. Really happy to see your transition has gone so well, best of luck on the new adventure! 💖

    • @WeFilmThings
      @WeFilmThings  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you so much and thank you for watching! Yes, lots:
      - Skillshare is the main one (you can get two months free via my link skl.sh/2xRSX7j ) - for Premiere Pro, Jordy Vandeput has a lot of good classes. Daniel Scott is good for all Adobe programmes (he's an official Adobe trainer, so it's a bit more by the book, but covers lots of things I didn't know about even though I've been using the programmes for years). There are also classes for specific issues you may have in photography / video / editing if you have a browse - I use them for EVERYTHING.
      - UA-cam: my favourites at the moment are Daniel Schiffer, Austin Newman, Justin Odisho, Mango Street
      - Color Grading Central - they have paid for courses, but I have just used their free resources so far as I'm being very frugal :D

    • @malaklz3075
      @malaklz3075 4 роки тому +1

      @@WeFilmThings Thank you for this comprehensive answer. I'm being frugal too and eyeing Skillshare classes without actually taking any, I will definitely take the chance to try it. Im also in a transitional phase, so even your worksheets are super useful, I had never heard of the diamond shape framework before.

    What made you choose leaving law over transitioning to another type of law or going in-house?

    • @WeFilmThings
      @WeFilmThings  Рік тому

      Sorry I didn't notice this message until now! I did actually interview for in-house roles and got offered one where they called me and said "We really like you and want to offer you this job, But we feel like maybe you don't really want it?" 😂 There were a couple of reasons: (1) I had been seconded in-house for 6 months and didn't love it - basically did a lot of run of the mill stuff and all the bigger, more interesting problems got outsourced to law firms (not saying this is every in-house role, but that was my experience!) (2) what I enjoyed about my job as a Private Equity lawyer in a city law firm was the adrenaline of high pressure, high speed transactions - I didn't feel that could be replicated in-house, (3) I was already making a change which was a big step, and I had always wanted to try something creative. It felt like a good time to go all in because I had no dependants, no debts/mortgage, I had some savings and some interest from potential clients for creative services (I now have a kid AND a mortgage so my approach may have been v different😅)

    I am thinking of quitting my training contract because the hours are just so long and work is tough on me. It keeps giving me anxieties and I was almost suicidal. Should I quit or stay? I still have 6 months to go.

    • @WeFilmThings
      @WeFilmThings  3 роки тому +2

      I'm so sorry your experience is so bad. Please speak to someone - whether your supervisor, your HR team or someone externally as you have to take care of your mental health, it's absolutely not worth causing long term damage 🙏 Your health comes first. If you feel you are able to, then I think it is worth finishing your training contract as you've put so much work in and you have one seat left. However, this completely depends on you and please please please make sure you get the help and support you need! Wishing you all the best 💛

    • @Theo-rx9mk
      @Theo-rx9mk 3 роки тому

      6 months is not a long time but you should definitely focus on your health above all. Law is a brutal career that is missold to applicants. If you are at any risk of harming your health you need to speak to someone about it. Also remember it's quite hard to fire trainees so you may be able to get reduced hours etc. to get to the end of your TC
