    Your bag is lovely and so full of memories. We need to not be afraid to cut things up and put the bits into projects like this. Like fancy linens, they serve no one tucked away in a drawer. But on a project, they can be admired and loved. I really enjoy seeing content creators that I watch interact, whether they meet in real life or zoom together or make the same project. It is like an affirmation of community in our crafty world🤗.
    Tfs. Love the Mole poem and your story. See you later.

    What a beautiful bag Pene, very useful and such a lovely reminder of your Mum. Mine died in 2001 and I think I miss her more than ever, the nearer I get to her age … I have some of the embroidery she did as a young girl and I treasure it.
    The folk festival looked such fun, isn’t it great to be old enough to have the time to “stand and stare”, at them and the turnstones and the sea. Take care and love to Pete, and you. Xx

    Loved your bag and the purpose for making it to cherish sweet memories! My mother grew up during the depression of 1929-1935. When I was given a special gift, she would often say, “Wrap that up in tissue paper and put it in the top of your closet. It’s so precious.” It made me smile when you mentioned not using our precious things. I would hope my children and grandchildren would enjoy and use things that brought memories of me!
    We struggle through our 90-100 degree weather WITH air conditioning and I cannot even imagine trying to do normal daily tasks without it! I agree about knitting when it is too hot. That’s the time I seem to get out my watercolors and put it to good use making little cards to mail to friends. Water for the hottest days and Wool for the rest. Ha!
    Thank you for another enjoyable Chinwag!

      @penelopeschinwag  18 днів тому

      How lovely to be able to paint, I have tried and tried but I think I could do with some lessons. I always land up frustrated. Water for hot and wool for cool, sensible. We have had a lovely August here in the SE, warm sunny weather and I have so enjoyed it. I can imagine your mum saying treasure it having grown up in the depression. Hard years. A bit like mine - 1926 mum was born. Take care, see you soon. xx

It doesn't matter how old we get we all miss our mums. My mum died last year aged 89 and the doctor said (as I said I was being silly because she had lived so long) the longer your mum lives the more time you have to love her which is very true. You look brilliant too. I think Pete keeps you young. With all his devilment.

    Hi Penelope
    I so love your chats and projects. I feel so connected to the things you say about your life. I am 73 yrs old born 1951in Newcastle-Under-Lyme Staffordshire and came to Australia in 1967 as a 16yr old. with my parents and younger sister. So many of your memories of growing up I can relate to and it brings back lovely memories for me. Your life story readings and poetry are wonderful. I have thought numerous times about writing my memories down on paper mainly for my families benefit. I was sorry that my mum, who was a Londoner and went thru the blitz ending up in Staffordshire having lost everything in London. My mums memories were so vivid and knowleadgable I wish she had written them down. Since I have retired I have increased my crafting and love it, so keep on doing what you do so well. I get lots of inspiration from you and love to catch up with you regularly. Kindest regards Janice x

    I have not commented for a few episodes but I wanted to say I have hit "like" and watched them over and over. I make notes but then realize I am getting carried away. I don't know which episodes the following comments go with but I wanted to say that I just love the vlogs you do so much! Your trip to Agatha Christie's home was fascinating. I love to see all the beautiful places you visit. You are fortunate to live in such a gorgeous country. When you showed the Mon Tricot magazine from the 70s that you made Pete's sweater from I was so delighted because I have that issue! And no, the sweater is not dated - the one with all the patterned stripes all the way through it. I was so glad that you told who designed the adorable fabric you used in your work (Anita Jeram) and most especially, Pete's eyeglasses mat - the mice painting. I have looked for the designer and there are many stamps and items for paper crafting with her art on them. I love hearing about your life. I was born in 1954 so we are about the same age. Oh, belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I am sure you did miss your mum and naturally you would be a bit blue. I agree completely about craft being just the cure for feeling a bit down. And I know that having your hands busy and especially working some pattern that requires attention takes you away from dwelling on unhappy things. I can imagine your subscriber who wanted to live next door to you was absolutely sincere. I am waiting for my passport to come and would love to go to the UK. I'm just a bit too old. I was only there as a 6 year old when we were making a tour of Europe when Dad was in the Army stationed at Heidelberg. I remember being at Buckingham Palace but my only interest was in a police horse that I was petting and the officer gave me one of those huge pennies. I still have it. Bless you and Pete for the lovely people you are, and best wishes to all of your family. That film of Tommy at Disney was so sweet. Am I wrong or is he the image of Pete? K

    • @penelopeschinwag
      @penelopeschinwag  18 днів тому

      Hi K, what a super super message, thanks. How lovely to visit Buckingham Palace and receive a penny. You're right about Tommy, chip off the old block as we say here. Pete and I have been away for a couple of days and the mood has shifted but making the bag certainly helped. I felt I connected with mum using her bits. Pete has come back from two nights away so much better, the short breaks really help his recovery. Amazing you had the same pattern from the 70s, I loved that jumper, silly not to keep it really. Anyway, see you next time soon. xx

    Thank you. Didn't you quote Stanley Unwin off the radio just a couple of episodes ago, something about "joy" ? Well that is exactly what you have given me. I'm on my own now and my on-line community consists of yourself, Helen from mousiemakes, katherine from k3n Marion from Marion's world and a gentle Friday vlog lady whose name escapes me at the moment. Such a blessing you all are and you are so right when you say that crafting is what keeps you going, fills your mind occupies you but still lets you think and be aware and of course at the end you have made something. Thank you. x

    Hello there- I’m a new subscriber 😊I’m Elizabeth and I live in Tasmania, the little island state of Australia 🇦🇺 Helen from mousiemakespod recommended your channel. And I’m very happy that she did as I really enjoyed your episode- I miss my precious Mum and I have many of her tablecloths that she embroidered and lovely doilies too- I’ve started thinking of ways I could use them in my crafts. The heat is rather draining isn’t it? Can you imagine what our gardens look like after 2 months without rain- we spend a lot of time watering them in the Summer! Looking forward to seeing your next episode 😊

      So happy that you have joined me Elizabeth. I can't imagine two months without rain, however it is still warm and sunny here and we are enjoying every day. It's hard cutting things up but repurposing them for a project is better than in a drawer. Depends on their condition I think. Mum's bits were well used. Thanks for joining me all the way from Tasmania. xx

    Thank you Penelope for easing me in so gently to my day. I was out at my knitting group last night so felt a bit weary this morning. Your videos are a real tonic. Loved all the quilting you showed & especially your film. Tonight is our ukulele group meet up & “Bound for South Australia” is one of the songs we play & sing. Always love sea shanty’s. Enjoy your weekend. Dianne 😀

You are living in such a beautiful place, seaside,sunshine,music and friends..precious. send some of those beautiful days down to New Zealand please, we're about to get more rain with our cold days, yuck!. Look forward to your next episode. Keep smiling. I hear your Mum when you say Bye bye. They're always with us.❤

    Making a bag using your mum's things to remember her by is such a lovely idea. When you read about your Cornish holidays it took me back to my childhood when our family also had seaside holidays which I loved & I still love being at the beach.

    Losing family is heart wrenching isn’t it I’m 71 and lost my twin sister when we were 36 and I still haven’t adjusted to being without her, I only have a couple of her photographs on display, anymore I just crumble. So the bag you have shown makes me smile as memories are not always photographs so thanks for cheering me up today. Your bags are beautiful and so much love has been crafted together. Ha hah the poem was brilliant Jan. what a lovely story teller you are ! Regards to Pete and thankyou for sharing 😊

      Thanks Carol, a twin sister is what I always wanted and to be grieving for yours still, must be the hardest. I think as you say the love in the crafting helps with the grief more than a photo. Have passed regards to Pete, thanks. xx

    Hi Pene, my mum had a lovely duvet set she loved from marks and Spencer’s must of been 30 years ago. I kept it, and have repurposed it to a gorgeous quilt, now my grandchildren will have an heirloom quilt, with a memory of her and me. I am so sentimental, but like you we were loved and hopefully I can pass that on to my family. Grief is like spilling a huge pot of glitter, you think you have it all and then months and years later you find a bit and it hits again for a moment. Love the bag, very useful size, and I am on the hunt now for fabrics to make an eye spy quilt. You do keep me busy with ideas. As usual just lovely.

    Good morning, Pene. I'm early this morning. You were there when I picked up my phone. I've been feeling a bit glum over the past few days. So, spending half an hour with you has brightened the start of my day. Nothing really the matter. Just over tired and keep thinking about some dental surgery I've got coming up.
    I love your memory bag6 the fabric is very special. I watched Lily's tutorial yesterday. I would really like to make one.
    It's lovely how a crafting circle of friendship has developed. With Anne, Helen Lily, and yourself. Even though most of us haven't met in person. It's a huge circle when you think of all the subscribers together.
    Film at the end was glorious. A bustling seaside town in the height of summer. Punch and Judy reminds me of childhood.
    Time for me to move and start the day. Have a wonderful week, take care. Xx

      So pleased to help with the nerves Angela and to spend time with you. I enjoyed making the bag as I too felt glum last week and making each stitch helped. You're right with the crafting circle, lovely thoughts. Yes, it's bustling here with Folk Week, enjoying it whilst the weather is lovely. Have a good day. xx
